Another half decent performance generally from what I saw, but for the second game in a row the defending has been poor. You can argue that the scoreline was harsh but we missed key chances to change the game so you are always open to it in this league if you don't take your chances.

I never expected to get anything out of tonight but the GD is taking a bit of a hit now which has dropped us into the bottom three again. Work to be done on the training field to integrate Agbadou a bit better maybe.

Just got to try and stay in touch until these bad fixtures are behind us again.

Miles off Newcastle’s level basically.

It’s going to be a right slog. I’m not convinced we have enough. Have to get some points out of these next few games from somewhere.

Also, sign some fucking players you utter wankers. Such a poorly put together squad.

It's not really a 3-0 game. They weren't three goals better than us. But that's where we are, we don't do enough right at either end of the pitch and that's why we're going to be in a relegation battle past Easter. Buckle up, it might be a rough ride.

Sa: Two excellent saves in the first half and no chance with any of the goals.

Doherty: It's 33 year old Matt Doherty at centre half in the Premier League in 2025. How good do you think it's going to be. He had a couple of good games over Christmas but this isn't the answer to anything.

Bueno: Fucking garbage, an atrocious centre half. Cannot stand him.

Agbadou: Fair to say he is rough around the edges on the ball. Alarmingly so at times for someone who turns 28 not long after the season finishes, he isn't a raw kid. He does at least look like he can defend though which puts him at Michael Schumacher 2001 levels of being ahead of the rest of the field.

R Gomes: Should have had an assist with some smart play. Otherwise struggled to get into the game and wasn't comfortable against Gordon.

Ait-Nouri: Opened up a couple of times early on and didn't offer anything going forwards today.

André/J Gomes: Both far too good to be playing in a team that's 17th in the league. That's a quality Newcastle central midfield and they more than held their own.

Guedes: Shit, shit, shit player, worse attitude. Fucking hate him.

Hwang: A complete competition winner of a display, if it were some no-mark celebrity in Soccer Aid you'd say he was out of his depth even given those zero expectations. Appalling.

Strand Larsen: The problem with being predominantly a penalty box striker and not much else (and that's where we are, because he frequently goes 20+ minutes while contributing nothing to general play) is that if you miss those penalty box chances, it looks bad. That's two games in a row and at pivotal moments too. It's not unlucky today, it's a bad miss.

Subs: Cunha obviously injected some quality, the rest were too late to make any difference whatsoever.

I like Vitor, had he been here since August then this kind of result wouldn't really be a problem because we'd likely have a buffer in place and you just write it off. Sadly though we can't write anything off.

Get to work in the market please, we don't have enough here.

We were rubbish, yet had enough presentable chances to have at least scored two, maybe even three. We got what we deserved though, Newcastle were the better, hungrier side by quite some distance.

Better team won.

All of our team needed to be on their game tonight and the only one I can say that was close was Sa. Some good saves from him and he anticipated Newcastle attacks well. As for the rest, the attack was dreadful, the defence was worse and although the midfield put the effort in, the quality wasn't there to outgun a decent Newcastle team.

We have 18 games left to save ourselves and I don't see us getting much joy from our next 5 games when we defend like this.

To be fair, Newcastle are in great form and away at St James's was always going to be a big ask. Agbadou will hopefully settle down when he gets used to the team.

It's just worrying that our next 4 PL games are all against strong teams and the worry is we'll have lost any confidence by the time we get to Blackburn in the cup. If Ipswich and/or Leicester get some results in this period we're going to be chasing for the rest of the season.

Reckon if we'd been playing like this since the start of the season we'd probably not be in so much trouble, but we're here now and we're running out of time.

You can't defend like that and expect to stay up. Appalling yet again, and I'm sick of typing that. We must sign another defender this month - a bit early to be too critical of Agbadou but there's no improvement in that backline based on that. That 2nd goal had me fuming - why give one of the best strikers in the league that much room? Fucking wake up.

We've also been really bad at the other end in the last 2 games, we've got to put some of those chances away. 2 piss poor weak attempts from Sarabia at the end summed us up.

We need to show a lot more if we're to stay up - and it didn't help that we wasted so many games sticking with O'Neil.

We need to wrap Cunha in cotton wool. With him staying up will be a challenge, without him we’re doomed. A left sided CH and another forward so we don’t have to play Hwang and Guedes would help. We’re relying on other teams to be as shit as us and if Ipswich put a little run together we’ll be playing Blackburn again next season.

Wrong formation with the available players and should have been adjusted after 20 minutes. Long balls not sticking up top or breaking down (surprise, surprise) Midfield 2 then easy to play through, (RAN and R.Gomes) not defensive enough as too wide and high, defence left exposed, got away with it first half largely thanks to Sa.
The first goal was similar to Forests in that move breaks down, midfield cut through, defence at sea.
We haven't got the players. Simple as.

We had no luck in this game, nevertheless had things gone our way we’d still probably have lost.
As I said in match day thread we’ve been dreadful in both boxes in the last 2 games.
I’m sorry if you’re starting front 3 has Hwang and Guedes in it you’re in deep shit. We’re a sustained Cunha injury away from certain relegation. Also when you options involve JRB it’s a big problem.
Our positive results since Victor has arrived either come against poor opponents or poorly organised ones. We’ve hit 2 good well organised sides in the last 10 days and lost badly.
Old habits die hard and set pieces and allowing players too much room again.
Toss of a coin if we stay up, bring in another defender and keep Cunha fit I think we’ve got a better chance.
If it happens all roads lead back to allowing GON to stay as long as he did.

Cunha apart, those substitutions reveal just how limited our options are. Bellegarde, Doyle, Sarabia replacing Hwang and Guedes! The cupboard is bare.

These stats scream a tight game with one goal deciding it. Not good enough at either end.

I don't think it was particularly close, they were shaper, smarter and more aggressive in attack. Maybe if Larson scores that chance mid way through the second half its a different game, but I seriously doubt it somehow. Its not like Hwang is going to start showing for the ball and making things happen if we score, or Guedes is going to start putting himself about around the pitch to take some of the pressure off, or our defenders realise that they actually need to mark opposition players rather than leave them to stand on their own on the edge of the six yard box. It was a pretty awful night tbh.

We’ve signed Carlos Forbs and he can’t get a look in ahead of Hwang, Guedes and Bellegarde. Well done Hobbs, you keep patting yourself on the back for that one
After LLs piece saying he's not played enough games to trigger the purchase clause yet then I doubt we'll be seeing much of him moving forwards

I keep thinking "I can't be arsed with this team" and keep coming back for more. I must be a right fucking mug. The club doesn't deserve the emotional investment they get from the fans. Shit team, shit owners. I can't keep investing time and energy into supporting such sackless wankers.
