Newcastle 3-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Newcastle and Forest must be the two in-form teams in the PL, so I'm not going to gnash my teeth too much at losing to them.

At least Cunha is back now, and I actually thought Agba looked a strong defender first half. Hobbs and Shi gonna have to dig deep for Vitor this month though, or it'll be a close run thing whether we have enough

That's fucking appalling from Lemina.

People piss and moan and are abusive about Hwang, but whilst limited at least he tries! Lemina was captain at the start of this season, now look at him. He doesn't want to play for us?! What a prick, he'll take his money though won't he!

Fuck him, any good will is gone now.

Agba did have a handful of good moments, but I'm really worried about his positional sense and what appears to be him just ball watching.

After a good start from Pereira's reign we've reverted, but as well as leaking goals, we've stopped scoring. I've started preparing myself for the Championship.

We've just played the two most inform teams in the league, and for 75% of those minutes without our best player.

Just as the 7/9 didn't mean we were definitely staying up, these 2 defeats doesn't mean we're definitely going down either.

On the way back now and it did have the same sort of feel as the Forest game. A good inform team with everything going for them and a team with some good players just lacking that killer instinct at both ends.

We are definitely more structured under Vitor even if i’m still far from convinced on the back 3/5 idea but we have just played the most inform teams in the league and have created very good chances that we need to take but the 2 goals in the second half just aren’t acceptable at any time. Bueno and Semedo just move away from Newcastle’s best 2 attacking players leaving them free in the middle of the goal, just unbelievable really.

The tough games keep coming but we have to believe and get behind the lads however Vitor has decisions to make on the back 3, his use of players like Hwang and Bellegarde who are both miles off it and then can his boss support him with players in and out. Going to be a long season no matter what but we need to have that cutting edge back but also a bit of luck wouldn’t go amiss at some point.

After the results from Leicester, Utd, Spurs, I just expected more. Not necessarily wins but not damp squibs of performances. It feels like we're just hoping that 3 teams are worse than us, I'm not sure there are, I feel that Pereira has been left with too much to do.
Cunha, Gomes, Andre and Semedo should be enough quality but Agba, the verdict is out, Santi is a back up at best, Doc is Doc, Hwang and Guedes just aren't good enough. I'm struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel atm. I'm not expecting significant improvements in the transfer window.

Yes, it is disappointing to hear but we're only hearing one part of the story. On the surface, it seems unprofessional but this is a guy who has been very good for us at times. Seems to me he is a player who needs to feel loved and an arm wrapped around his shoulder rather than the tough approach. He was asked to do things that were unnatural to him by GON but then he was the master of his own downfall with his behaviour. It does look like he's reverted to type in how he has handled all of this but despite this, I wish him well even if it is away from Wolves. He has been tremendous at times but this season he has been poor. Perhaps a change is the right move for everyone?

If Lemina refuses to play - should he be paid ?

Surely playing , when asked , is part of the contract ?

He'll have been smart about it, their agents always make sure they are. The quote doesn't say he refused, just that he told them he wasn't mentally in the right place. It's then the club that decides he can't play, not the player from a contractual perspective

3 - 5 - 2 has to be the short term fix for now surely . We simply have to be pragmatic in the short term .

3 / 4 more defeats in a row could do a lot of damage and ruin whatever morale was regained after the arrival of Pereira .

Those three defeats against Bournemouth, Everton, and Ipswich have really hurt us, as we’re not good enough to take points from teams like Forest and Newcastle, and we have four tough league games coming up next.

We are already relying on Leicester and Ipswich losing to avoid a gap opening up.

Last night was a strange game in that whilst we never looked convincing in attack we could/should have scored two or three times.

The defence was appalling, leaving Isak and Gordon with time and space. Agbadou might be good for us, but for at least one of those goals he seemed slow to react.

I want to support the team, I want them to do well, but weakness at both ends of the pitch make them a hard watch at present.

True probably . It's definitely time to offload him mind you .

Forest and Newcastle may be the in-form teams but we made it very easy for them by failing to do the basics in defence. It won’t matter who we play, if we continue to defend like that we’re going down. I don’t think the players we have are capable of much better, Doherty, Bueno and Toti will always have an error in them so if we are to have a fair chance of staying up we need at least one more CH.

At the other end of the pitch we need a better alternative to Hwang and Guedes, especially now Larsen’s finishing has reverted to the norm.

If we don’t get at least a couple of starters in I’m struggling to see anything other than relegation.

Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool, is a cruel run of matches. I just hope Ipswich, aren't too far in front when we finish those fixtures.
If we’re going to stay up we’re going to have to pick up some surprise points in that run. Losing 6 on the spin is a none option and will send us down.

People here are giving out about Doherty and Bueno , suggesting that one is simply a very poor defender - Doc ( I'm fully in agreement ) , and that the other is slower than a carthorse .
I still haven't given up on Dawson for what is left of the season and his contract . We need every possible option right now . We cannot go down without a fight , without exploring everything . Bringing in a new defender will need mean him getting used to the pace of the game etc .
Dawson was in my view brought back way too quickly - against Bournemouth - from injury . It did him no favours , same with Everton . Others here say he is finished . As a leader and a strong presence at the back he is head and shoulders above Doherty and Bueno will look better with strong players around him .
I haven't given up on him yet .

Was working last night so didn't see the game, but based on Bristol City and comments from Newcastle, we've bought Agbadou to be our best centre half, but are hampering that by playing him in a position where he looks uncomfortable. For me we should be putting him in his best position which supposedly would be on the right of the 3 and take it from there. I'd put Dawson in the middle, he's washed up, but at least you know he'll fight for you unlike Bueno and RAN on the left. Semedo comes in at RWB and Gomes shifts sides.

Anything we do will be sub optimal due to the skill gaps, but I believe that's the best option.

Something has to change and I agree shifting Agbadou to the right is a priority. Dawson in the middle where his lack of pace isn’t exposed as much makes sense. If we move Rodrigo to the left it gives an option of RAN further forward, far from ideal but he’d be better there than Hwang. The reality fact a road cone wouldn’t be much worse! Add a left sided CH and a forward and we might escape but even then I think it will require Ipswich to continue to struggle and the signs are they’re beginning to look a bit more competitive.

Saints are long gone, Leicester look shot to pieces. It’s 1 from 3 currently, Everton will probably have enough to steer clear and have a better head coach now.
It’ll be a genuine shootout between us and Ipswich of who is less shit.
