Newcastle 3-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

We’ve signed Carlos Forbs and he can’t get a look in ahead of Hwang, Guedes and Bellegarde. Well done Hobbs, you keep patting yourself on the back for that one
We have huge quantities of crap or players whose heads have gone.
Only 5 players I’d trust in the squad currently Semedo, J Gomes, Andre, Cunha and JSL.
The rest are if just not good enough to erratic or can’t be arsed. Terrible squad accumulation, if I was Hobbs I’d wake up in cold sweats knowing what the squad was 5 years ago to what it is now, not all on him far from it but still some shockers have been waved through by him.

We got a very good 18 months out of him, he's now reverted back to what he's always been temperament wise
Yep was shocking at times for Fulham & Saints, was never ever captain material and GON thinking it was appropriate is massive misjudgment

In a highlights package we probably come across quite well but over 90 minutes, and particularly after we conceded, we were second best by a healthy margin.

I thought before we conceded we looked compact and defended well as a team. After we conceded, less so. Two of the goals were as a result of woeful defending. Neither goal should be conceded at any level of professional football, two in the same game is inexcusable.

We had chances, were unlucky to have the goal disallowed, but anything other than a Newcastle win was hard to see.

I dont see much changing unless a lot changes in the next two weeks and I don't see a lot changing.

Probably just GON trying to keep a player he thought was badly needed, sweet. But most of what GON thought appears to have been a massive misjudgment, just like keeping him after the international break and the 'El Sackico' game. We don't make it easy on ourselves.

We were never going to match the newcastle midfield playing a two. Ran and rodrigo were no help as both newcastle wings were0 sharp and quick, tying them up all game.
Not going to criticise agga, as that was a true baptism of fire, and with only santi to back him up against isak, we were on a hiding to nothing.
Larsen just not at it last two games, and guedes spent the match falling over and appealing, i have no idea what hwang did all game.
The geordies were just too strong in all departments, and apart from Cunha and semedo, there was never anyone on the bench worth putting on the pitch.
Gonna be a long run to the end of season and it's all up to jeff and hobbs now.

Vitor certainly speaks his mind

I would say he has also got a fine for his request not to play
Reading between the lines it sounds like Lemina has become a disruptive influence in the dressing room.
Absolutely a nightmare if you get a player who’s become a mood hoover and needs keeping away from the first team.

I was surprised this was given as it just “looked offside”, but I’m sorry but that’s a load of bollocks. No fucking chance his knee is that far ahead of his foot, and the line chops Isak’s toes off.

Bit of a farce that offside is done by a bloke guessing which pixel to choose.
Pre VAR id say he was level, I’m not to fussed with it really if he’s a couple of Cm’s slower he still probably scores.

Lemina probably got a bollocking a few weeks back for running around like a headless chicken, trying to win the game on his own and not doing the job he was supposed to be doing.

I’m almost certain Hwang has pulled off an Ali Dia type ruse.

We looked half-decent until their first goal went in, another deflection after the one they had at Molineux earlier in the season.

And, when we see teams over the years that get relegated, they have decent players but miss sitters in games, concede deflections yada yada – we seem to be that type of team this year. Also, the fact our defence is utter shite – Gordon standing near the penalty spot waiting to slot the ball in with all the room and time in the world.

I’m disappointed with Larsen at the moment too – he really should have scored a couple against Forest – the saves were good, but he has to score them. Nothing is working for him – he’s not holding the ball up, he can’t finish (he HAS to score that chance tonight), the lay-offs are not accurate. Are we playing to his strengths fully? Are we getting the right ball into the right areas for him? Not sure, but he looked ‘better’ earlier in the season.

Luckily, we’ve only conceded 48 goals and only Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Bournemouth to come in our next league fixtures…

It's not really a 3-0 game. They weren't three goals better than us. But that's where we are, we don't do enough right at either end of the pitch and that's why we're going to be in a relegation battle past Easter. Buckle up, it might be a rough ride.

Sa: Two excellent saves in the first half and no chance with any of the goals.

Doherty: It's 33 year old Matt Doherty at centre half in the Premier League in 2025. How good do you think it's going to be. He had a couple of good games over Christmas but this isn't the answer to anything.

Bueno: Fucking garbage, an atrocious centre half. Cannot stand him.

Agbadou: Fair to say he is rough around the edges on the ball. Alarmingly so at times for someone who turns 28 not long after the season finishes, he isn't a raw kid. He does at least look like he can defend though which puts him at Michael Schumacher 2001 levels of being ahead of the rest of the field.

R Gomes: Should have had an assist with some smart play. Otherwise struggled to get into the game and wasn't comfortable against Gordon.

Ait-Nouri: Opened up a couple of times early on and didn't offer anything going forwards today.

André/J Gomes: Both far too good to be playing in a team that's 17th in the league. That's a quality Newcastle central midfield and they more than held their own.

Guedes: Shit, shit, shit player, worse attitude. Fucking hate him.

Hwang: A complete competition winner of a display, if it were some no-mark celebrity in Soccer Aid you'd say he was out of his depth even given those zero expectations. Appalling.

Strand Larsen: The problem with being predominantly a penalty box striker and not much else (and that's where we are, because he frequently goes 20+ minutes while contributing nothing to general play) is that if you miss those penalty box chances, it looks bad. That's two games in a row and at pivotal moments too. It's not unlucky today, it's a bad miss.

Subs: Cunha obviously injected some quality, the rest were too late to make any difference whatsoever.

I like Vitor, had he been here since August then this kind of result wouldn't really be a problem because we'd likely have a buffer in place and you just write it off. Sadly though we can't write anything off.

Get to work in the market please, we don't have enough here.
Disagree about Guedes. He wasn't brilliant today but doesn't deserve 3 shits.

Well, that was a difficult watch.

Positives:
Agbadou has a good first half
Cunha is back
Rodrigo looks decent.

Negatives
JSL - terrible performance in general, gets away with it if he scores one of his sitters.
Bueno - has that Kilman style of being in the box near stuff but never quiet doing anything. Mistakes just seem to happen near him.
Hwang - woeful.

Newcastle were much better than us, they had a clear game plan to be at our press and did well to nullify the wingbacks in general.

Well our defending is still as shit as its always been. At the other end, our players don't seem able to find either side of a goalie! Piss poor finishing from YSL, Cunha and Sarabia. But if you're gonna concede goals like we do then we aint got a chance. Forest and Newcastle, both being form sides, were perhaps matches that we should have gone an ultra-defensive 5-3-2 and just grind out something. Instead we've stuck with just the two in midfield and have been walloped. We got to somehow stop the flood of goals and become hard to beat. Over to you Vitor.

Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool, is a cruel run of matches. I just hope Ipswich, aren't too far in front when we finish those fixtures.
