Had a job interview 3 weeks ago, driving a minibus of 6th formers between 2 school sites, they wanted my complete work history since I left school ( nearly 40 yrs ago) got it up to nearly 30 that’ll do tbh, couple of places from 15 or so years ago have closed completely.

Had a couple of phone calls off the school saying they can’t contact these companies, yea they’ve shut completely is the reply, couple of days later school asked again for contact details for these companies, they’re still shut completely I said, you can’t contact them, they don’t exist.

Heard nothing for a week or so, this morning got a call saying the job offer is being withdrawn, because they can’t verify where I was working at certain points in my career, yea that’ll be the companies that’s shut is it?
How dare those companies go out of business 15 years ago and harm my prospects in the future!

Bloody ridiculous, at least 3 of my previous employers no longer exist, one of them I was there for 17 years.

Applied for a job recently, and as I was filling it in I realised none but my current employment existed any more. I just filled it in with the contact details of when i left...

Weird thing is, I’d done a driving assessment for them, they’d booked me onto the Midas minibus course to fulfil their insurance obligations when I started work, booked me onto a first aid course, again for insurance, and paid for my DBS check and started that in motion, costing them money, and then pull the offer

Probably a bullet dodged there. For a job such as you described working for a company that has such a 'jobsworth' running the HR dept, consider yourself lucky.

I think you’re right, could understand the checks back to school if I was applying to chauffeur the royal family around, or applying for Mi5 or GCHQ but all this for a school minibus was overkill

Last time we had a jar (probably 90s, when lemonjelly was just a sprog apparently) we had about 38 quid out of it, tbf we put 1p, 2p, 5p,20p, I was a highflyer then on about 15 grand a year.
