New - The things that really annoy you

Had forced re-gen, £186 including diagnostics, I need to do at least one long drive a month.
Makes you wonder why not just buy an old car that doesn’t have to comply with all the current emissions regulations.
It's ok, you can afford it 😉

The affect on children's health?
There is electric I suppose, my mechanic told me to steer clear, he had a customer come to his garage the other day with an electric Audi, Audi wanted £15,000 for the repair.

What were they repairing?

All I will say on EV is get yourself in one and try before dismissing. Might be perfect for what you need, might not be but in general ignore the horror stories that people who are not a fan put out there, most of it is utter bollocks

On that subject, it’s worth paying attention to what’s happening around these parts since the introduction of the expanded Ulez. Essentially, there’s a boom in the older, less fashionable (and subsequently cheaper) ‘survivor’ cars (crappy Morris Marinas, beaten up Austin’s and so on) that are 40 years or older, that don’t need MOT’s, road tax AND are exempt from Ulez. It’s amazing how many of those you see about now spewing their toxins out while the drivers beat the system. I saw a rusty Austin Cambridge doing precisely that just a short while ago. With a motor like that your hardly bothered about parking scrapes either so if your not too bothered about speed or comfort you can see the appeal.

A mate of mine who is a big environmentalist is up in arms and wants the loophole closed but it’s no wonder when people are squeezed they start thinking outside the box bringing unintended consequences. Angela has already confirmed the roll-out of Ulez so it’s coming your way whether you like it or not. For the really cost-savvy get ahead of the game and get your mid-80’s crap-box in the garage before the prices of anything 40 years or older start to climb even sharper.

At say, 5 grand a year to run a compliant econobox, or an appreciating asset for what amounts to next to nothing, it’s no wonder more people are looking at alternatives.

A £15k EV repair bill stinks of an older car with a major battery issue or related electronics.

Buy 2-3 years old and you should still have some warranty left on both battery and car. Teslas have 8 year battery warranties.

At least in American cars of this vintage, you’re taking your life into your own hands a bit. The A and B pillars of cabins that old will skewer a driver in a crash without a second thought.

When most roads are 20 mph limits you don’t have to worry too much about the affects of a crash anymore.

You know someone died in a 15mph rail crash last week?

Of course, you’ll always find exceptional cases, but the 20 limits and crawling traffic close the safety margins between old and new to something that’s nn longer a great concern.

Trev's got the cash to just Uber Premium everywhere he dow need no advice
On that note too, I was thinking you can get an awful lot of Uber miles or zip car hire for the sort of numbers required to keep a new compliant motor on the road.

I think we’re heading that way and have probably seen the peak of car ownership, but that’s probably a tangent for another time.

Just for a kick off, the amount of kids I see getting picked up from school when they could quite easily walk or take a bus is insane.
This winds me up too. From 2:30pm until 4pm the roads round here are chaos.

My mum walked me to nursery and primary school, and I walked myself to secondary school every morning.

The first time I ever drove to school in my life was when I passed my test in 6th form and rocked up in my B reg Nissan Micra to impress all the girls.

I’m sure that really knocked their socks off

Edit: the K10 model actually ain’t that bad. Kind of looks like a Golf or Rabbit that got too big for its wheels.

Fewer cars on the road should be a genuine aspiration. Always.

Yep. Winds me up too, however "the fear" is why parents are reluctant to have their kids walk home.

When I lived in Bilbrook I had to avoid the Co-Op between 3pm and 4pm because it did my absolute nut in. Hordes of fat kids clogging up the aisles and stuffing their faces with sweets. Get the fuck out of here.

Child obesity is a massive, massive looming problem.
