New - The things that really annoy you

Mark, you need a supply of containers from large ice cream tubs to old plant pots to one of those long plastic window boxes, drill holes in them, thread some of that strong nylon rope through the holes and either carry them up or pull them up once you're up there.
You need to fashion a few hooks like a butchers hook that you can put around the top rung , or hang off a branch and put your paint, paint brushes, tools and general stuff into the handiest tub, so when you're up in your tree ( or wherever) you've got all your screws etc up there with you. I've had a piece of rope tied to the top rung for years now with a metal hook on the end... Perfect!
Ridiculous...

You shouldn't carry things up a ladder though...

I don't carry them in my hands, got myself a tool belt but had to keep rearranging stuff to get it comfortable, stop things from catching on the ladder as I went up and minimised my faffing around at the top.

Had one given to me last year. I don’t mind their normal stuff and the Elvis Juice but ended up giving away the more outrageous concoctions after a couple sips. It won’t be long before your lads come in useful for such things!

Maintain 3 points of contact when climbing and where ever possible when working.

Make sure they're at the correct angle, and supported on the right surface. Avoid carrying items if practicable and only light items if not. Try to support/tie them in. Dont over reach, and stay off the top 3 rungs. If you need to use both hands consider some sort of harness

I'm sure Mark is familiar with all of these though as a suitable construction professional.

For extended periods of work or for extensive loading out of materials other options should be considered but otherwise ladders are perfectly acceptable form of access as long as basic safety is followed.

I have seen some unbelievable acts of foolishness/bravery with ladders.

3 points of contact should be maintained whilst working on a ladder/steps. No item should be carried up or down a ladder using your hands.

It's not the top 3 rungs, it's a minimum of 1.0m.

I agree that ladders are acceptable, but their safe use has to meet certain criteria.

You can't work with 3 points of contact though, how would you hammer a nail in. If you're doing work that requires you to be constantly using both your arms and giving up your 3 points than you should consider a restraint.

I'm not 100% on the height/rung thing but I know the others, people have different interpretation of what actual guidelines are and this led to the generic ban of ladders on some sites which helps fuel the 'health & safety gone mad' brigade.

People wrong naming things then saying that’s what I call it.

Calling the Netherlands, Holland. Holland is small part of the whole country.

Sporting Lisbon don’t exist it’s Sporting Club de Portugal.
Would you call Arsenal, Arsenal London

Czech Republic being called Czechoslovakia still even though it’s not been that for 30 years.

I will respond to that post as soon as I've booked next years holidays to Yugoslavia !

You utilise a system like Sky use when installing dishes.

You’re right same way Turkey is now turkiye
...not really... Turkey is still the accepted anglicised form. We don't, for example, say Deutschland instead of Germany.

Not so sure about that I know Turkish government are keen for everyone to adopt the Turkiye way of saying it

Not entirely sure a country can change another country's language? 🤔
