Man Utd 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Found this interesting:

Key takeaway for me is that it doesn't look like a sustainable way to play the season, even if it keeps working, with the limited squad we have (no wonder Podence has barely featured). I do wonder how it would set up with a proper #9 though, does seem to rely heavily on Cunha.

Also, #rip the horseshoe

Last night we saw I think twice Wolves reverted to a Low Block, allowed UTD to have the ball, I said to my pals we looked like we were taking a Collective Breather

Not so much a low block imo because when the defence or midfield had it we pressed hard, just a strategy to not let Onana break the press and let him have the ball.

That was a great watch. But as others have said, it’s not a very sustainable way to play for a full 90 with such a small squad so we need to find times to take breathers without getting caught sitting too deep. Really, really encouraging though - he makes our game plan sound very well thought out!

That set up isn't going to work against every side. Part of what he says in there re arsenal rings true, as some sides will be happy to knock a longer pass wide and have someone challenging Semedo or Bueno in the air and picking up from there. There's also sides like Brighton who will play those brave round the corner passes and then have 4/5 running at our back 5.

GoN has said they he'll try and do different things depending on situation so hopefully he continues to get it right more often than not.

I assume he means small tweaks, IE, the RB may not be the primary player we target as the key to our pressure against City. Or we may need to prepared for sides who are more willing to build on both flanks.

Not sure what position you key your press on when the opposition plays a percentage game. How we cope with that will be interesting given Kilman has traditionally been quite poor against balls played over the top.

Our fitness levels were quite impressive I thought - something we clearly did not have this time last year . It made a huge difference and allowed us to press United all over the field .
The Silva / Cunha thing is simply going to have to happen . I do not understand people suggesting that we start the same team versus Brighton , we're at home and should be on the front foot . Silva must start as he needs to get used to playing ahead of Cunha and Cunha needs to get used to him .
Look at all that great work that Cunha did the other night . He clearly loves going deep and collecting the ball , but it is all a waste if he is not comfortable finishing . Give him an outlet in Silva .
Sarabia just looks too light for me . Gomes is a revelation and his use of his body to protect the ball is very clever .

We're pretty solid in most departments ( not perfect , but as good and better than a lot of PL teams ) , apart from up front . If Silva is the missing piece of the jigsaw then we could be in for a fine season .

Indeed, props to Lopetegui and his team for getting the players as fit as they have. We're going to need it with how tiny the squad is, especially when we get into those Tuesday-Saturday weeks.

That's why we need more coaching staff in specialist positions.

A couple of people I didn't recognise on the bench v Utd.

Have we officially announced any of his team or are we doing the standard will announce them when every one is in

Shame all the fitness people have gone and not been replaced

Yeah it's a concern.

I wonder if the club are looking at having fitness and data staff that stay with the club long term, regardless of manager. Would be better for consistency, as long as they're good at their jobs!

Hopefully we've identified some/already got them in - as long as they're not as bad as that twonk we had under Lage.

AKA not Tony Daley

That's OK until the next manager comes in and will only take the job if he can bring his own team

Tbh I don't even remember Dr Death's real name.
