Man City (H) 25/8 Build-Up Thread

I think having Vinagre and Jonny in the team will also bring better out of Jota and Costa when they overlap. Costa hasn't been great but there were a few times in the Everton game where Doc's ball killed the momentum and Jonny on the left doesn't offer the same overlap threat however good he is. I hope Nuno is brave enough to try it in a game like Man City where we might not be expecting any points anyway. I've got other changes I'd like to see in the side but that would be enough for this next game.

Post-match only for me and I'm unsure how long I'll be around after. Depends on a lot of things.

I may try and squeeze one in the bar in North Bank pre-match but won't be breaking my neck to get there for one. Post-match I will be around though

Unfortunately Rodriguez does not finish work till 6 we leave at 6 back on board for 5.30 so have missed him.

However have my top on with Neves on the back everyone is chatting and shaking hands.
One guy at a port winerie was a friend of Neves and started singing we've got Neves every one from the ship were staring in amazement.

The global brand has started and it's in Portugal
Are you talkin about our Joel? From the Forum?

All this talk of full backs - what happens if Raul gets injured?! I sure as hell don’t see Leo doing anything close to an acceptable job at this level and Jota hasn’t set the world alight so far (plus he’s no where near the physical presence of Raul). At least if Doherty or another member of the starting 11 gets injured we have acceptable back ups. I’m shitting myself for the day Raul gets crocked/suspended.

I can see us spending big in Jan on another FW & another RWB.

We will probably put Jota in the middle like we did numerous times last season or maybe Ennis or the Seal will step up

P-Gladz is still here, don't know what you're worried about.

I could do this.

Woke with a good feeling about this... even if we get beat I will still get to see one of the best English teams ever in the flesh.

Plus a day spent at a beer festival after should cushion the blow.

I would say we have very little chance of a victory 1-3 would be my guess but with Aguera on fire could be a proper spanking.
Having said that we can always hope the early kick off affects them or could we sneak a carabou cup ball in?

Yep. Plus you get to see man city.

Memories of Tevez running to the corner flag on a cold midweek night and doing his annoying bum dance thing.

Pay back would be lovely...

These are the games that excite you, having the opportunity to see the great sides movement with and without the ball. Wolves will test them that's for sure.

It'll be interesting to see how Nuno approaches this one. A real test for him. Do we try and defend and stay tight and hit them on the counter (much like we did in the cup last season except thankfully we won't have Bright on the end of every opportunity we get) - or do we take the game to them and leave ourselves open to get cut to ribbons at the back?

The issue with the first option is we haven't exactly looked rock solid at the back so far as it is. We've stood off players and given them space and it's cost us. If we do the same with a side like Manchester City they'll have a field of a time. They've got the quality to pass it quickly in and around the area and to cut through the defensive lines at will, so with any team, if you're looking to defend and hit on the counter, there's an element of risk involved because you'll have periods in the game where you're on the ropes. Flip side is if you try and take the game to an opposition who are superior to you, it's a very fine line between brave and stupid. We do that on Saturday and could easily end up being thumped like Huddersfield were (except they didn't even take the game to City, they were just outclassed and outfought in every position).

A lot of it will come down to our starting 11. I don't see how he can't go with Traore over Costa here. Traore gives us that raw pace to break away and give the defence some breathing space, which I don't think Costa quite gives us at the moment.

I'd personally, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, bring Dendonker in for Coady, but I can't see Nuno doing that this early in the season when Dendonker hasn't even featured on the bench. Hopefully he's getting on at Coady this week the importance of closing down quickly on the edge of the box and not backing off - because he's been at fault (not just him) for two goals this season so far.

It's going to be a very interesting watch. We'll give them a much better game than Huddersfield last week - and I actually do genuinely believe that with a front three of Jota/Raul/Traore we can get at City and hurt them. The main issue for me is, at the moment, I just can't see them scoring less than 2/3 goals against our defence.

Chelsea 1-0 2011
Spurs 0 Wolves 1 2009
Liverpool 0 Wolves 1 2010
Wolves 2 Man Utd 1 2011

We actually have beaten some of the top sides on our last premier league sortie so who knows/ We may just get something here too.

That last time we beat the eventual Champions was 1983/4 season.

We may just get something here too.

We may. Unlikely though.

As long as we have a go, thats all I want to see. None of this Huddersfield style putting every player behind the ball, hoof it clear and hope you get a set piece within 40 yards of their goal. From the 2nd goal last week, City cruised as if they were having a training session.
We know they will dominate possession, but when we get it we need to be smart with the ball and front 3 have got to be at the very top of their game. I have a feeling Jota will wake up for this one. Be interesting to see how they manage Traore on the Counter as well.
I know we can look back at Bright getting chances last season but that was helped by them playing a bomb scare in the centre of defence, they won't do that this time.

They also had 82 year old Yaya in midfield doing a Paul Ince 2006 impression.
