I'm like Booz this week (minus the bust arm and a kitchen full of ale)
I don't blame Doherty really. We ought to have recruited a better player for his very crucial position.
agreed. don't understand how we had a decent left back - Baz - plus a back up with Vin, but still bought in another one Jonny. yet had no back up/improvement on Doc for 2 seasons with Phil never ready to play.
Unfortunately Rodriguez does not finish work till 6 we leave at 6 back on board for 5.30 so have missed him.
However have my top on with Neves on the back everyone is chatting and shaking hands.
One guy at a port winerie was a friend of Neves and started singing we've got Neves every one from the ship were staring in amazement.
The global brand has started and it's in Portugal
It's not just this window though, it's been an overlooked part of the squad for a while now (although I accept that last season the player we signed for that position was broken all season long). We did go for a RWB but some tiny team called Juventus got ahead of us on that one. Then the plan seemed to be Zinchenko/Vinagre & Jonny/Doherty but we put everything on Zinny joining us and his change of mind left us with no time to get in the 2nd target. The main question is why we put everything on Zinchenko and let it drag on for 5 weeks, although everyone went to bed the day before the window closed happy they had their man as he had agreed terms, but we left ourselves short when it collapsed. Our one poor move since Nuno came along but then you look around and you see clubs like Man Utd somehow missing out on 3 or 4 players, so its not just us making the odd mistake.

Under Nuno..2 failures to sign a RWB. We got 1 in the 1st window but German Phil breaking didn't help and I don't think they thought he would be out for nearly the season. Doc clearly did enough to impress Nuno or he would have followed Edwards and Dicko out the door. The Jan window we certainly should have got a cover in at least. We got lucky that Doc only missed 1 game and in that game we tried a few options at RWB. Window just gone, we know we had 3 targets and only got 1 (Jonny). It's not just this window though, it's been an overlooked part of the squad for a while now (although I accept that last season the player we signed for that position was broken all season long).
I don’t think we will, we’ll either pay a premium for a good first teamer or loan someone for six months and sort it permanently next summer.
Basically what we were saying in December last year though. We ended up signing 1 and selling 1 and still leaving us 1 short in a pretty vital position.
My concern on it was the time we allowed the Zinchenko deal to drag on for. He was clearly our number target (after Cancelo signed for Juve) but you have to allow yourself time to get in Plan B and we didn't do that. All of a sudden at around 11am on deadline day were left with no time to get a decent player across the line. We should have pulled out of the move for him a week earlier IMO.
Can I blame Thelwell for not having a plan B? He's the Sporting Director and all scouts report to him so you would think he would have irons in the fire ready to go. Personally I would hope my hero had already lined up a new LWB regardless of the Zinchenko situation, not least of all to put pressure on Zinchenko to make a decision earlier.
No wonder Wolves were recruiting for European scouts in the summer.
I agree, but I guess we actually managed to get Zinchenko to agree terms (GFFH seemed to think everything was done) only for him to get cold feet at the very last minute.
