He started 19 league games last season, 23 league games this season. In an absolute best case scenario he wouldn't be able to deal with the intensity of playing in the Premier League much more regularly than that and irrespective of their wealth it isn't likely City would throw out a long term deal to someone who'd play about 60% of the games at best. They already have Silva for that.

City under Pep will probably pass the ball more than Barcelona, an Andrés Iniesta renaissance

Man City tonight were a macrocosm of Kenny's Wolves for the last three months.

I'd imagine that Pellegrini has no confidence in Otamendi and Mangala (why would you?) - so compensated for defensive shortcomings with an overly-defensive mindset, at the expense of attacking intent, just so that you don't get blown out 3-1 or 4-1.

Just wank from City, at least Madrid realised they needed to do something at some point in the tie and played some football tonight, they could've destroyed City if they'd wanted.

That Real team on paper was so imbalanced, none of the front 3 going to offer anything defensively, nor the midfield 3 really and even one of the fullbacks is usually a joke defensively. City looked as though they'd got the more sturdy setup but they were hopeless, Toure is just a gaping wound in your team whenever you're without the ball, he had zero influence on the games of Kroos and Modric. As soon as players as capable as those have time and space in the middle of the park you're in trouble, other City players lost their shape trying to cover for the big useless lump and Real picked the holes when they needed to.

There looked an alarming lack of enthusiasm for City too, at no point did anyone looked arsed, no-one tried to raise their game or rally the troops, all just accepted their fate. Even when Aguero was coming deep to get involved it seemed to be through boredom more than anything else, never tried to do anything when he got the ball, no real signs of frustration at the lack of options.

Pathetic stuff from City from start to finish.

Some more top analysis from Hargreaves on commentary too, before kick off he was pointing out Toure v Kroos as a worry for Real. Fair enough Tony isn't much of a defender but if there's a side of that battle getting let down by their defensive output it certainly isn't him!

If the atmosphere at Anfield does not inspire the Liverpool players then nothing will.

England can't afford to lose Milner given the current midfield issues we have.

Hopefully that knock is nothing serious

As I suspected after the first leg, Liverpool have progressed very comfortably.

Villareal are a good team but they've been comprehensively done over tonight. Impressive from Liverpool.

If Liverpool could get some consistency they could be a really good team next season.

I don't think Villareal could cope with the atmosphere from the moment they walked onto the pitch.

Really high intensity pressing game did Villareal in, they just couldn't cope. Lallana, Firmino and Milner were outstanding.

Great team performance. English interest in Europe maintained. Good for Liverpool. Deserved.

United need to wake up a bit, that's City, Chelsea and Liverpool who'll start next season with a manager absolutely miles out of LvG's league.

What a hit that was from Mariano for Sevilla.

I thought it was a harsh red card as it looked accidental. If he meant it then it was an awful challenge.

Still not as bad as the one on Zyro though!
