Is Bruno Lage A Good Manager Or Should He Go?

I desperately wanted this to work out. Absolutely pig-sick of negative football and really bought in to the attacking 4-4-2 manager.

Even before tonight I still thought that things might work out. I could see the formation transitioning and I thought it was only a matter of time before things started to click. I just can't see it after tonight though. The same old problems culminating in a Nuno-esque performance against the relegation favourites.

I'm still not convinced this is a coaching issue alone - the spine of the team is a counter attacking unit and that maybe won't change until Neves leaves and the reboot really kicks in. But seeing Bruno leave it so late to do something proactive to get a handle on things was aggravating.

Part of me agrees with you, but also... that starting XI was just as much Lage as Nuno. Sure, Moutinho, Neves, Raul, and Jonny were key Nuno players, but Nunes, Collins, and Guedes are new, Kilman was only just starting to break through in Nuno's last season, Semedo only had one season with Nuno, Neto's long-term injury also means he only really had about a season's worth of games with Nuno.

We're already pretty close to a Ship of Theseus situation, and surely we don't have to replace every plank of wood to make it work?

My only concern is who do you go after to replace him?

He should really have gone after the final game of last season.
It was always gonna end tears for a man whose previous job in English football was putting the cones out for training.
Way, way out of his depth.

Exactly. Lopetegui doesn't seem an exciting choice, Potter and Thomas Frank out of reach.

Given that Arteta and Vieria have both performed far better in the role than they had any right to, maybe a punt on a rookie is our best option? I dunno... take a gamble and go with CR7 player manager? ;)

On holiday in Cornwall currently and the local pub decided to put the City goal fest in instead of our dross...

I'm going to wait till the Soton game to make my call as I didn't see this game, but reading everyone's thoughts is sad and depressing reading...

Sack him and put Moutino as manager/coach and see what happens. He can't do any worse surely.

The worst Premier League manager we have ever had.

Before anyone fires back with 'Terry Connor', Lage has the exact same record as him now over the same number of games and I'm pretty sure our 2022 team is better than our 2012 team.

I wouldn't have him in charge of a pub team. So shit.

First time I've heard the Wolves fans get on his back tonight. That's from majority gold/silver away season ticket holders as well. No win on Saturday and the tide really could start to turn.

We actually looked more threatening under Terry Connor.

Once the away support starts turning you time is limited. No win in 12 league games and only scored 7 that includes 2 games v promoted teams and 2 who were relegated.
Whatever circumstances your managing in then the board would have every right to sack you.
By giving him the start of the season with ended probably putting ourselves in a relegation battle.
People making out he was working with a bunch of no hopers last season to he was working with a squad that was and is capable of winning at least 4 of the last 12 games.

Southampton score and it will get toxic quick.

There’s been no dissent as fans don’t go to games to shout “we want x out” but when that’s what they all want and then a poor showing happens in front of you then that’s the spark that kicks it off quickly.

No one will go into the game screaming for him out Saturday at kickoff but at full time and throughout the game it could get messy.

He knows it too after that car crash of an interview tonight.

I think he go either in the September international break or the World Cup break. If it’s the later then it could be to late as we’ll more than likely be cut adrift.
Certain players may also be risking playing themselves out of a World Cup spot to.

Terry Connor's record at Wolves:

P13 W0 D4 L9 F12 A33 Pts 4

Bruno Lage's last 13 games at Wolves:

P13 W1 D5 L7 F9 A24 Pts 8

It’s interesting though the 3 long term injured players at the end of Nuno time Neto, Raul and Jonny have all returned under Lage looking shadows of what they were.
Probably just coincidence

I think the first 2 are, the third not so sure. I think he's in the Saiss, Boly, Coady and who knows who else camp of hating the manager

What are we actually waiting for.

He could win on Saturday but even Zenga and Saunders won games. Zenga went and won away at champions Newcastle!

There’s zero evidence we’re going to just click and become a good team. We aren’t aiming for 14th, we’re aiming top half, so that’s a massive fucking turn around.

We’ve been shit for god knows how long. The writing has been on the wall and we aren’t getting better. A win Saturday will just kick the can down the road and waste more of the season.

He’s done absolutely nothing to deserve time. Put us out of our misery
