Hull (H) 3/4 Build-up thread

I'm all aboard the Vinagre train, but think that Nuno will just move Bennett across and play either Hause or Miranda.

I really hope Nuno just puts Phil in and doesn't move anyone else around. I know he's only played in a couple of under 23's games but he's fit now and will be fine imo so it's the obvious one for me. We need a right winger that can get forward so i wouldn't like Bennett there from the start. Vinagre is a funny one, it could work but it would be weird as he's all left foot. Will be interesting to see what Nuno does, whatever it is though i hope it doesn't include Batth playing.

I agree. Why play a LWB out of position if we have a RWB available? German Phil came through 90 minutes for the under 23’s, so as far as I’m concerned he’s fit. The only difference will be the quality of opposition and Hull really aren’t very good. When Phil is knackered (at which point, hopefully we’ll be a goal or two ahead anyway) - move Bennett across and bring on Batth or Hause.

On a separate subject, I think Saiss needs a rest but Nuno may tell him to get through this one and then go with N’Diaye + Neves v Cardiff.

The issue Is, Phil has only played around 200 minutes of half paced U23's games in 3 weeks after over 12 months out. If this was him returning after a couple of months it wouldn't be an issue but a year is a different matter.

Hopefully he can play for 60 mins but I doubt it so we will have to do something that involves a player out of position.

Think Saiss will be fine, he'd been ill last week so i think he was just feeling the full effects of being ill and going through all that work. He and the club will be working overtime on the recovery over the next couple of days to get him ready or i hope so anyway as we need him.

I will be floored if we play someone other than Bennett at RWB.

I think you’re right but I worry about changing the back 3, the last time that happened we were awful. I’m sure Nuno knows what he’s doing though, we should have enough to beat Hull.

Tbf last time we changed it wasn't as if we became horribly disorganized; Batth made a couple of horrendous individual errors but Boly and Coady were generally alright. If we put in Miranda I think we'll be perfectly fine. Though it worries me slightly that Miranda somehow slipped below Batth on the depth chart in the first place. Not sure what the story is there.

If Miranda was next in line you'd think he'd have been the one taking up a spot on the bench rather than Batth though.

You would think. For my money Miranda barely deserved to get dropped from the starting lineup in the first place, though obviously Bennett has since claimed that spot comfortably.

I'm having Miranda over Batth ten times out of ten, though.

Let's think outside the box Give Mgw the wing back role?

Agree.

We have one problem ie RWB - don’t create potentially a couple more.

Far too passive defensively in my eyes, tidy footballer but even Ronan looked to have more bite to his game in his WB cameo against City.

Well that would stop him coming into the starting 11 too would it not?
Not necessarily, but as TT pointed out we were fine so Miranda would seem to be surplus to requirements.

Wingback is such a specialist position that I can't see anyone other than Vin swapping sides or Bennet moving from CB. With that needing to happen I can't see Nuno wanting to start MGW at CM as he'd then have two players in new or untested positions.

N'Diaye for Neves and Vinagre for Doherty. With Gibbs-White if Saiss hasn't recovered.

MGW has played at cm a couple of times this season hasn't he? I'd rather him than Bennet at rwb tbh, with due respect to Hull, he won't be doing much defending.....I only remember Doc defending twice against Boro and both instances ending up getting him sent off

Watching Hull last night they really were pretty poor - but we are bound to have a reaction after Friday. I'd go with MGW simply for his attacking threat: just don't see Ryan Bennett spending most of his time in the Hull half sending crosses in. And as has been said, we have one problem, which is RWB. Let's not turn it into two by changing the back three.
