Giro d'Italia / Tour de France

You cut me deep sometimes :(

Sorry , thought about what I'd written afer I had written it.I was out and couldn't correct It.

13 out of the last 17 tours were won by cyclists who were later found to have doped.
My point is , that there was a context to Contador doping. When he was caught , it had been the way to win for years. If it has suddenly changed I don"t know.

I'm not criticising - just thought I would go through the history and see exactly how many were confirmed dopers. Obviously, Indurain skews it with 5 clean wins, but I think there are suspicions about him too. Equally, I wouldn't be surprised if Hinault was suspicious.

Other TDF heroes - Ancquetil happily admitted it.

Yes Indurain , who won the tour 5 times got caught using an ilegal substance. He was let off as he was using an inhaler for medical reasons. You would have thought that his team doctor , would have known there was an ilegal substance in the inhaler.

Indurain had salbutomol in his inhaler, which was completely legal at the time, but now is on the banned list. Therefore the medical reasons thing as a "being let off" is wrong.

How in your "caught doping" list, you need to turn Denis Menchov red, I think. Pretty sure he is a confirmed doper now.

Salbutamol legal without a TUE from what I remember, though limited to the equivalent of something like 16 doses?

That rings a bell. It was pretty dodgy really, hence why I think of Big Mig as not really that different from Delgado who never "tested positive" but his test was definitely doctored.

The festina affair screwed professional cycling big time. But saying that, cycling has been dealing with the problem since Tom Simpson, and Michel Pollentier's disgraceful attempt to get around tests by running clean urine from a bottle into his test bottle using a pipe under his gear.

Menchov just been handed two years...

Edit: April 2015, only read about it yesterday...memory isn't what it used to be...

The eye witness who called Contador stupid for trying to go past him on a descent , crashed going downhill in 2011 and broke his shoulder. He also had to retire in 2013 for doing the same thing.

In the2011 Tour de France, after an encouraging first week and while aiming for a GC podium spot, Van den Broeck had to abandon the race along with another GC-hopeful,Alexander Vinokourov, after a massive and spectacularly grim downhill crash which left him with apneumothorax, broken ribs and a fractured shoulder.

Latest on the frame failure rumour...was Contador's spare which tangled with the Belkin car while still on the racks. Third bike may have been Roche's...

Salbutomol was on the banned list of the IOC , when Indurain tested positive.Though it was allowed , if you had a medical condition and you disclosed you were using it. Indurain only said he was using it after he tested positive.

I blame his team doctors. The man was a brilliant rider. He was a very humble man.I will never forget the day he stopped , got off his bike and retired from the Spanish tour. I think about 1996 .My father-in -law cried.Indurain was recently married and I think he had just had his first child. He wanted to spend more time with his family.Which I can understand.

Contador rode 20 kilometers with a fractured tibia .

He won't need an operation. That at least , must be a littke better news for him.

Nibali blowing the field to pieces on the climb to chamrousse. Valverde is nearest but still twenty seconds back. Porte has lost six minutes in 5 kilometres

So who is winning the casual bike ride anyway? Any Brits left?

Cheers Paddy. I lost interest when Froome and Cavendish went out
