Giro d'Italia / Tour de France

Contador hits the deck hard and has lost quite a bit of time. Kwiatkowski into virtual yellow on the road, but plenty of time for that to change. Machado who was in third has also fallen. Good chance for Nibali and Porte to do some damage to those two.

Nibali has blown it wide open. His to lose. Porte did another fantastic ride - and now into second

I haven't seen the accident yet - there may not even be any coverage of it - but apparently Contador's crash was around 70 metres long if that makes sense, also no confirmation if it was caused by the frame breaking, in which case the if true skidmarks in his underpants would be about the same length. Whatever happened, that had to fucking sting.

Sounds like a car pulled over to sort out a puncture for Nicolas Roche and a bike fell off the rack on the car and straight in front of Contador.

Not from what I saw - Roche (unless I wasn't really listening to the commentary properly which could be the case) was well down the road and signalling for some assistance and then they cut back to Contador. Plus, none of his team were around him while he was being patched up.

Also, you'd have to be damned unlucky to be the only rider in the peloton to get clattered by a bike wouldn't you? Contador himself has said that he isn't sure what happened, that perhaps he went over a stone or a hole in the road.

or feels nothing when doped up? #easyjab

I think you will find 10 out of the last 14 TdF winners , have later to be found to have used ilegal substances. That doesnt make it right , but it puts doping in the TdF in to context. Many of those found guilty , werent found guilty on the spot , but some even several years later.

shame about bertie. and with froomey gone as well is it nibbles' to lose? obviously porte is in a great position now as well.

i didn't get to see any of the action today unfortunately.

Hmm - let's see

Froome - No
Wiggins - No
Cadel Evans - No
Carlos Sastre - No
Floyd Landis - YES, replaced by Oscar Periero - No
Contador - YES (2 wins), Andy Schleck awarded one of the titles - No
Armstrong - YES (7 wins)
Marco Pantani - YES
Jan Ulrich - YES
Bjarne Riis - YES
Miguel Indurain - No (5 wins)
Stephen Roche - No
Pedro Delgado - No (although he has always been suspected of failing a test in 1986 that was hushed up)
Greg Lemond - No (3 wins)
Laurent Fignon - Yes (I think - 2 wins)
Bernard Hinault - No (5 wins)
Joop Zoetemelk - Yes
Bernard Thevenet - Yes
Lucien Van Impe - No

And that takes us all the way back to Merckx

Sorry , thought about what I'd written afer I had written it.I was out and couldn't correct It.

13 out of the last 17 tours were won by cyclists who were later found to have doped.
My point is , that there was a context to Contador doping. When he was caught , it had been the way to win for years. If it has suddenly changed I don"t know.

I'm going to stop making light hearted jibes, folk keep taking them seriously
