Fulham 1-1 Wolves: Boxing Day Verdict Thread

Oh and the matchday threads on here are ridiculously negative, every single game. Go back and read them if you like. Every single time they're basically 90% posts just slagging us off. And not even all of them are Jinky's posts.

Oh come on.

Wolves concede

Cue 20 FFS posts, moans about defending, entries onto the blame game thread and general angst.

Wakey Wakey! The matchday threads have always been negative especially when we fuck up!

Worry when the verdict threads go that way 24 hours after a match when every supporter has calmed down. You know that. You edit your reports once you have calmed down. Your angriest reports have been the ones you published ( not this season) immediately after a poor game IIRC. So you get it too. On a matchday thread we vent. You vent. On a verdict thread we debate or should debate. I am not right all the time in fact I am often wrong. However you are also not infallible ( See Doherty Matt) and are just as liable to the odd rant , vent or unevidenced whinge as the rest of us.

However there have also been a good number of times when we have conceded where we have said- fair enough , cant do much about that , good goal. So I dont think they are as negative as you seem to think

Or, lets take international football...

England play a high ranked Spain (for example) who play their own game and attack. England win 3-2 because the way Spain have played has allowed England to play their own style.
England play against a "minnow" who pack their defence and the England game plan no longer works because the little team have set up to use spoil tactics. It is a nod to how good England can be that they do this*

*See Wolves

Great example- playing spain who had already beaten us at our place, convincingly. As I have said we dont really know until we have played them twice . But we have been suckered at home tactically by Huddersfield and Watford and tried to out Cardiff, Cardiff and failed and came second to Fulham for the first half ( and they should have been out of sight. If Raul had missed the chances Mitrovic did yesterday he would have copped flack on here I am sure). So I repeat, lets make sure it doesnt happen again.

Just to add balance how many of you think we will repeat our results against the top teams?

Chelsea away win?
Man City a point away?
Arsenal a point at Home?
Man Utd a point at home?

Whilst I would love to see it I wouldnt be putting £50 on that accumulator. In fact I will say here and now that we wont get six points from those four fixtures no matter how well we play.

Point vs Chelsea, loss to Man City, beat Arsenal and beat Man Utd...

I give you £20 bet that doesnt happen at odds of 5-1. Wolves do that , I pay you a ton. Wolves do worse than that you pay me £20

I find it interesting that there's such a big difference between how Wolves fans think at the minute. I've tried to step away from looking at comments after every game this season so far because i think the criticism of both the team and players in general is getting out of hand and doesn't really look rational most of the time. Personally i thought we would finish in the top half this season and probably in the top 8 if we perform as we can and get the luck you undoubtedly need throughout the season and i'm more than happy with where we are right now.

We aren't perfect and as yesterday showed our problem isn't playing against the teams below us or the "poor" teams but more a problem of playing against sides that sit back and restrict the space our fullbacks get, particularly Doc. We then have a real reluctance to play through the middle at times which had changed when Jota hit form but yesterday in the first half in particular we again refused to go through the middle. This changed after half time and if you look at the goal that's where we need Costa, Cav, Jota, Traore etc, within the width of the box. Nuno and the players are still learning, most of them have never played at this level and at this intensity, yes they have played a high level but the Premier League is a different beast and players have said as much, Patricio mentioned this not long ago.

On yesterday's game, Fulham aren't the team they were under Jokanovic and won't be under Ranieri. They are going to try and be defensively solid while looking to counter and i'm not sure they are going to be good enough to stay up doing it but they aren't going to be leaking goals left, right and centre as they were. We started quite well to be fair and had the ref done his job we would have possibly been a goal up through a penalty and then the game changes. We then let Fulham in by not penetrating and they got a bit of confidence but couldn't score and their goal came completely against the run of play.

We do need to find better solutions of breaking teams down and we do need to find better ways of dealing with big, physical strikers getting up against Coady but we're 19 games in to our first Premier League season with this squad and a young one at that. Fans expecting us to go away from home and routinely beat teams just because they are below us are watching the wrong sport and aren't thinking rationally. Sport, football, the Premier League just isn't that simple, if it was it would be boring and it wouldn't be what it is.

I think criticism is fine but you have to have reasons behind that criticism to be taken seriously in my opinion and there's a real lack of reasoning in most fans criticism, it's just that we should be beating these teams. Break the game down, what should we do better, what did the other team do well because there's another team out there trying to beat us and we aren't good enough to just turn up and expect to win.

I treat everything on its merits. We deserved to beat Chelsea, we deserved to lose to Huddersfield. I don't care where they were in the league.

Chorley were the better team on the night all those years ago. Still pissed me the hell off and had me ranting though

Bang on.

That's 4/1 ;)

Only if the £20 is given to Cyber upfront, he holds it (like a bookie) and then returns £100. If A agrees to give B £20 and B agrees to give A £100 it is very clearly 5/1.
Except that the true odds of Cyber's little four fold are way more than 5/1

Ha ha ha... I'm not much of a big gambler Cyber but I am a bit of a drinker so how about the 5/1 on a pint? ;)

Has anyone met the Danks brothers? Are they as much of a twat as they come across on Twitter?

To my mind it isn't so much entitlement as frustration. We all know how well we are capable of playing, and when we fail to meet that standard it surely justifies criticism. So, with the skills of our players and the tactical nous of our manager, yes, we ought to be favourites against some of those teams we've failed to beat, and, yes, criticism is warranted in those games when we've performed below par. That's not the same as saying we ought to win every game, because sometimes Nuno will be out-thought, a la Watford (a team we're about equal with but who comprehensively bossed us on the day; fair play), and sometimes luck will be against us, but, just as the elite sides would expect to overcome whatever we can throw at them, so we should theoretically be able to outplay and/or outthink those sides we're technically superior to. But we don't always seem to be trying our best to put that theory into practice. Even Gary Neville has noticed that we only seem to turn up against the big boys. I'm immensely proud of our performances against them, but points are our bread and butter and we sometimes should compete harder for those from our less glamorous encounters.

Done- I buy you 5 pints of your favourite if you win , you buy me one pint of mine if I win. I drink Jack Daniels by the way! ( I think we are the same age too!)

You're on (but not sure I could drink 5 pints of JD) :icon_lol:

So is the bet we will get 7 points or more from the 4 games or my exact prediction? I'm just concerned that we'll turn City over instead of Man U ;)

those 4 games- seven points in fact I will give you 6 points or more as the bet as that was my comment so 1 win and 3 draws gets you or 2 wins get you. 4 draws I win! 1 win 1 draw I win.Fair?

Maybe others have said this before and I've missed it.

The top sides who we have seemingly performed better against don't set themselves up to face Wolves. In the games where we have struggled it's been against teams who have done so.

Fuck me. I really do not expect this forum to degenerate into a load of negative nonsense. We are what we are. A newly promoted team doing very well. Yes we have had some bad games. But we have also played some blinders. Can everybody just relax. We ain't going to be relegated, we ain't going to be challenging for a top six place. We are a very good side* and often a joy to watch.

*where were we a couple of years ago?

...but surely when the Golden Galacticos roll into town, shouldn’t the plucky minnows just roll over and let us hammer them.

England were very unlucky to be denied the draw against Spain at Wembley. Wellbeck did nothing wrong at all
