Espanyol (H) 20/2 Build-Up & Match Thread

Everyone seems so sure of us winning the cup (no wonder the atmosphere has been awful at Europa games if everyones that expectant) can't wait to come back on this thread when we haven't won it.

Of course it's not a sure thing, but it's certainly more likely than us hitting the form of our lives and everyone else fucking up enough for us to get into the Champions League through the Prem.

I understand not caring about the Europa (it's stupid, but I get it), but actively looking forward to it? How strange.

Can you read? Do you understand basic English? Where did I say that.

can't wait to come back on this thread when we haven't won it.
Curious.

Get digging.

I have been insanely jealous of teams qualifying for the Europa League over the years. I was pissed off that Burnley chucked away their campaign last season as I wanted them to progress. I got annoyed at Millwall fans who treated their brief stint in Europe as a pre-season outing v Ryman League team and never thought I would see us take part in any Euro game. So for me this is beyond special and if there is chance to win it and by doing so we sacrifice a couple of League places then bring it on.

I for one have never looked down on the Europa League. In fact I've openly slagged off managers who don't take it seriously. I'm looking at you, Redknapp.

Its not my stance its my opinion you can argue with it all you want your just wasting your time see I won't waiver on my opinion like I bet half you hypocrites did when we managed to 'qualify'.

Maybe I should go digging for some old posts when Blues etc where in it

I don't remember any hypocrisy at all- I do remember the excitement about Europe in 3 when we were impressing in the Championship, mind.

Well it doesn't say I can't wait for us not winning it does it.

It says I can't wait to revisit this thread when the inevitable (in my view) happens and we're knocked out. I'll take no pleasure in us getting knocked out bu that'll be a little comfort.

Ps stick to debating eh, wanna call me stupid be a man and pm me to do it to my face rather than from behind a keyboard.

So you will come back and point out to people that we can't win a Cup that no one has predicted we will? Bit odd but each to their own I guess.

No one ever called you stupid- people can hold opinions that I think are stupid without being stupid themselves.

Like thinking that asking people out for fights over internet forums is a good idea, for instance.

Ok I'm the minority, everyone loves the Europa League

How come the atmosphere has been so shit for all the European games then?

Hope you all crank it up tonight and put as much energy into getting behind the team as you've done pretending the Europa League is the most important thing in your life.

Prove me wrong but I bet its shit again tonight.

Who mentioned fighting?

.

I can't speak for everyone but personally I love it. The game in Torino is going to take some beating for the best game I have ever attended for instance.

Low away turnouts don't help (I think Espanyol have sold 1,300 or so, it could be different tonight), I haven't noticed a huge problem with atmosphere, Torino was good for instance. Besiktas was a more or less dead rubber, Crusaders and Pyunik aren't even at the level we would normally play in pre-season.

I don't think people consciously turn off their support based on what competition it is.

Not the old 'we have to have loads of away fans to get behind our team' chesnut. Why?

Personally remember Torino being pretty poor, was in the Southbank and could easily hear the 1000 or so (so not much different to tonight) Torino fans out sing the whole ground. As was the case for Besiktas.

You're full of shite Pacamac

First of all we finished just above midtable and then later in your argument you're scoffing at us being nowhere near the big six?

Which is it?

Wolves who qualified for a European competition for coming just above mid table we'd all be rightfully slating the competition.

...

Nowhere near the big 6....we finished 7th last season and currently sit in 8th. I

I don't know, ask the greatest fans in the waaaaaairld up the other end.

The away fans are in the North Bank, its always a shit atmosphere when the away fans are there*
It's clear that there is a slightly different crowd for Europa matches, ive not had the usual season ticket holders by me for the EL, bit like the FA Cup matches,
why is this? perhaps it hasn't caught some ST holders imagination's quite like a league game against Bournemouth does.

I get why you dont want to be in the EL, its a bloody hard competition, especially when they chuck the CL outcasts in there for no logical reason,we should have made more effort in the League Cup cos that was piss easy to get to the final.

*unless some bad decisions go against us and we feel like the world is against us.

Maths might not be you're strong put but in a league that holds 20....6th itself isn't far off mid table.

There's one amazing fishing expedition going on in this thread.

Ouh I forgot about the tickets situation, cheers for brining that up.

Now I'm a member not a STH (as can't make some Saturdays) but on high points so I get my Europa tickets as soon as they hit members sale and see the areas usually STH only and what's left I'd say the STH take up has been around

Tonight 70%
Previous games 50%

Maybe it isn't just me that isn't a massive fan of the Europa?

Don't buy the 'atmosphere is worse when away fans in the Northbank'. Why would you sing if away fans are near or not? Pathetic excuse people need to bin it, get behind the team whether the away fans are near you or not.

Curious why you think this? What makes it inevitable?

Because there's at least 5 teams in it I think are either better than us or don't suit the way we play enough for us to beat over 2 legs.
