Coronavirus

Self entitled morons. No way are we going to control this virus. The major difference between the west and the east is there is a much stronger streak of civil obedience in the east, when they are told or advised, they listen.

We have generations of people to whom the words no or don't are anathema. There is little or no self discipline and everything is about them, they speak in platitudes whilst basically ignoring all or any advice that might curtail their lifestyle or 'rights'.

'Oh, we've just come from London where I don't think it is so bad'

WTAF, do these c###ts not listen to news or watch the internet. I don't know how you get through to these morons without the govt passing powers that are way more draconian than currently exist.

I fear for our society going forwards.

You're right. They see themselves in terms of their place in the community whereas it's all me me me over here. Stronger messsges from the PM would have helped though - he's spent much of his time playing it down. Even last week he was talking about dealing with it in 12 weeks.

You honestly think these people listen to what anybody says ?? Why were these establishments still open ?, hit them with a corporate manslaughter charge should anything transpire, I think its time to make examples if people aren't willing to toe the line.

And therein lies a lot of the problem - the evidence has been there for weeks, but we expect the government to do our thinking for us. At the same time you spend your entire lives running them down, not my prime minister etc.

It is about time we started to take responsibility for our own actions, not needing politicians to tell us how to live. They are all flawed individuals, just like the rest of us. We all know (or at least we should) how to find much of the information we need on this virus.

Other big difference east to west - every photo in the east, they are all wearing masks. Maybe the evidence is tenuous, but even if it reduces the transmission risk by just 10% (evidence currently suggests 60%), it all helps. We all seem to be too worried about our 'image' if we go out with one on. First qworld bloody problems, get over it, death don't worry about image, it's just dead.

We need as a nation to develop a sense of civic responsibility, if we don't, I think we are f#####d.

I haven't mentioned it before, because I haven't commented before. Don't want to believe it, that is fine, however every recent photo I have seen shows it.

Have a look for yourself and make your own mind up. That is part of my point about taking personal responsibility and not relying on politicians who will ALWAYS have their own agenda.

Think its time for a proper lockdown.....today, it might already be too late

In many ways I agree, however, not sure how you enforce it, we have never been a heavily policed country, we do not have the numbers of police that other nations have. I guess you could bring out the armed forces, putting people with guns on the street opens a whole can of worms.

Unfortunately we have spent several generations breeding people who know their 'rights' (as my 14 year old nephew often quotes at me), but not their responsibilities. Do you think they will obey a lockdown?

Christ, I am beginning to sound like a broken record. Sorry, looking after and trying to keep safe my 92 year old mother, who has significant health issues. If she contracts it, game over.

Interesting that you seem to be focusing on the younger people not isolating. From social media, and certainly from what I saw in co-op yesterday, it seems to be people 50-60 and above behaving like idiots.

Looking out of my window, as I do a lot working from home, I only see older people walking their dogs in groups.

Just seen a post on Twitter about a pub being reported as open in the Lake District. There are more “grass” replies than people commending the police for shutting it down.

I'm currently social distancing at Jersey Airport.

Apologies, didn't imtend to give that impression, that is why I said 'several generations'. I don't exonerate any generation in this, plenty of older people ignoring all advice and instruction. Especially true arouind this area, we have the oldest average age population in the county (and in Dorset that means old). Where I live is opoposite a small park and it is dog walking central, people drive from all over the town to walk along the river. Makes it very difficult to keep social isolation when leaving the house. I think maybe the high level of dog ownership is also not helping, so many people need to get out and exercise them.

However I was specifically quoting after seeing that twitter film from Manchester, and they were all younger. I am sure they were not the only ones, just look how many idiots flocked to the beaches yesterday (all ages).

I think there is definitely an element of all ages who are just idiots. If it were only themselves at risk then fair enough, but they are wilfully endangering others too.

I’m not sure it’s about ‘rights’ m, there is just a streak of inherent selfishness in society - I think you could trace that in a very straight line back to Thatcherism and greed is good etc.

Question now is which way will people go when the shit hits the fan

Will they carry on regardless or actually think about their actions?

I know where my money is

Another Maggie hater. It goes back a long way before Mrs Thatcher came along, I reckon in many ways a reaction to the austerity of the war years, the boom of the fifties, swinging sixties, glam rock, punk etc etc. All these predate Maggie and all had a core of free thinking, anti establishment, individuality etc. It is not the product of one style of politics, I came of age during the Thatcher years, was in many ways shaped by them and have a strong core of awareness of self responsibility and duty. Others took a different view.
