Not only that but we'd have lost both wars without the help of others. Americans and Russians in particular.

We would have lost WWII if a) Hitler wasn't a pillock in starting Operation Barbarossa, and b) Hirohito wasn't a prick in allowing Pearl Harbour to take place

WWI is a bit different. That was a pyrrhic hideous draw at best. But attrition meant they ran out of men. The arrival of American troops didn't really make a huge change.

So almost none of my friends are doing social distancing. My daughter was invited to a sleepover and they think I'm being a bit precious not letting her go. FFS.

Those same people will blame the government when it all goes tits up

We're video calling grandma's tomorrow, no way I'm seeing elderly relatives until this is all done

Used a new app this evening called Houseparty, essentially it allows you to have multiple people video calling at the same time.

Essentially I've just had an evening drinking with two friends in Ireland (opposite sides of the Republic). The app is a touch clunky but works well for multiple people videoing each other at the same time.

We also followed up the evening with the Irish with a game of Articulate across 3 Yorkshire households!

Mayor of Barmouth has told people to basically fuck off back home we don't want you here, due to lots of people turning up to self isolate at their caravans, and then just walking round like they're on holiday

As I recall Barmouth (in fact much of the Welsh coast) is similar to Royston Vasey.

People out and about in China feeling fearful of foreign arrivals. Looks out of control in Europe especially Italy and Spain with the UK lagging a week or so behind. Australia seems to have more under 70's (perentage wise infected) but those returning seem to be a major risk. Acting far sooner with talk of South Australia isolating itself.

I don’t think what Greta thinks or does is actually high priority just now, whether you believe she is a great hope or otherwise. Events have overtaken that.

Number in US worse than Italy. New York city health care buckling under the weight according to someone I know over there. Predictions of 2.2 million dying are terrifying.

Bit more info on folks being treated ... From the guardian.
"The report, by the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre analyses all admissions to critical care units in UK up until midnight last Thursday. London treated 54% of 196 patients, although the rest of England could start to catch up within seven to 14 days. “Other regions, especially in urban areas, would be wise to see what is happening in London and use lessons from London to assist in their preparation,” one specialist said.
The report also provides the first in-depth profile of those who have needed intensive care. Most (139) were male, 71% of all cases; the median age was 64 although 37% were under 60; only 18 patients had “severe co-morbidities”, such as underlying heart conditions or lung disease; while 63% were overweight, obese or morbidly obese. Two patients had been pregnant within the last six weeks.
In a narrower study of 33 of the patients, it was found 16 died while 17 survived to be discharged to lower-level care. These patients spent an average of three days in intensive care before dying or being transferred, which if replicated could relieve the intense pressure on hospitals

We did exactly this last night - it was a right laugh. We've got a WhatsApp ground called 'The Virtual Pub' with the say/time of the next 'meetup' on the title of the group. Everyone is an admin so anyone can amend the title. Next 'meetup' is tonight. If people don't want to play games, we use Google Hangouts and just chat.

A few of my friends live alone so fuck knows how they're coping.

The army have set up a field hospital in Dublin's docklands this afternoon.

Thats brought it close to home. The field hospital is located right around the corner from our office

I'm told it's going to be a 'testing centre' and isn't a hospotal and is nothing to do with 'lockdown' eithet as some people have been suggesting.

Times reporting that the Government strategy for the "herd" was all down to PM Cummings and that should some pensioners die, then too bad.

Self entitled morons. No way are we going to control this virus. The major difference between the west and the east is there is a much stronger streak of civil obedience in the east, when they are told or advised, they listen.

We have generations of people to whom the words no or don't are anathema. There is little or no self discipline and everything is about them, they speak in platitudes whilst basically ignoring all or any advice that might curtail their lifestyle or 'rights'.

'Oh, we've just come from London where I don't think it is so bad'

WTAF, do these c###ts not listen to news or watch the internet. I don't know how you get through to these morons without the govt passing powers that are way more draconian than currently exist.

I fear for our society going forwards.

Spot on.

Just read the article in today’s times and that is mostly correct, but it was based on the science available at the time. It also says that Cummings is now the biggest hardliner trying to force Johnson to agree more draconian measures (such as lock down of London).

Then flipped straight away to lockdown and Johnson went for the half way house.

The advisor Cummings listened to thought herd immunity would limit UK deaths to 100k and changed their view on Monday to 500k, that's some miscalculation which history will judge appropriately given we went out on a limb.

Same reporter on Marr said with the latest advice the number is 250k
