Coronavirus

An further 710 died today. We might see 2000 on Wednesday or Thursday.

Anyone else woken at 3 am from a dream that you are in ICU & almost about to have to go onto a ventilator (really don't want that as if I go then want to be concious when I do or is that just me at my age?
.

Ventilators are no fun. Whether your conscious or in and out, its not comfortable, even when I was out in an induced coma, when they brought me round the first sensation I was aware of was teh pipe coming out and it was horrid.

Seems there's at least a glimmer of hope of maybe, just maybe a relaxing of the current restrictions sooner rather than later with Government belief and trust in Ian Mulheirn conclusions from his Tony Blair Institute Briefing

Anything that is associated with Blair can fuck right off. Nobody is monitoring me. The mental health implications and the long term distrust it will create amongst people makes me uneasy. It will create lepers in our society.

Iceland tests 1/10 of it's population. 50% carry the virus with no symptoms. Conflicting information everywhere. No sign of antibody test.

Ah, that’s a bugger. 6 more months in lockdown as papper doesn’t like Tony Blair.

So some fun and games at the Hotel my Daughter works at. Stayed open to look after NHS staff who need to stay away from home whilst working through this. So you would think these people would be clued up on how to behave, no matter how tough the circumstances are. Well a few are fucking idiots. sneaking friends and family into the hotel & being arsey to the staff when they get told they cannot all meet up in the bar. Generally putting themselves at risk and then of course their patients and the staff trying to look after them

Fair point, about Blair - but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him and my point on mental health issues and creating lepers is valid i feel. Can you imagine returning to work and realising you can't be there because somebody nearby is bleeping on the app. Or you cannot get on transport etc etc. I'm all for 6, 12 months lockdown if they want it but there won't be much of a world to go back to. Depression is not an ideal scenario and will kill far more than this virus.

You’ll only be told not to be places retrospectively. So you spend 7 days at home as you were potentially in contact with someone on the bus yesterday whereas the rest of the country crack on. Alternatively you just have the whole country on lockdown instead...

If it's fed by NHS data it is meaningless because not everybody has or is being tested and the result is only valid until you next socialise. If it relies on people inputting details such as sore throat, dry cough then you've potentially got everybody giving a bleep. The desocialisation of society is a massive problem and the impact will hit for months maybe years. How many people will develop agrophobia or OCD ?

I have no idea how the app will work. I assumed it was similar to the one they already have working in China.

Bollocks to data, lets all go about any business we want, let's face it nobody should believe anything they read unless it fits their own opinion and then believe away.

The one in China works because they insist on everybody having one and if you don't have one then the police don't say please go home.

I know I'm an argumentative bastard at the best of times but if it relies on data being inputting then it appears flawed to me especially given the data coming out of Iceland. I do think one eye has to be placed on the future. The only game changer is a 100% reliable antibody test - there has to be some form of controlled herd immunity.

I’ve got nothing to hide...

Let’s be honest, if the police really wanted to they could look what any one of us is doing right now. So it wouldn’t really affect our rights to privacy.

Now normally I wouldn't do this but are you in disease control or an epidemiologist? It would be strange to have such an exact opinion without prior knowledge.

Here's some data.

80% have mild or no symptoms.

How many of those 80% will lose jobs, get beaten up at home, get abused or develop serious mental illnesses over the coming months?

The Politicians don't seem to have a clue and the most prominent experts appear to be the likes of Bill Gates.

Gawd elp us.

By your logic nobody should have an opinion unless they are in disease control or an epidemiologist. I am making observations and understand enough about data sets to give an opinion.

You do know the population of Iceland is about the same as Shropshire don't you, would you think it a good indicator if one fifth of Shropshire was infected ?

Yes. But surely that isn't a true comparison - any comparison has to be based on the social habits of people ie how many they come into contact with each day. But this partly explains my point in anycase how difficult it really is to extrapolate meaning from any set of data. As I said a reliable antibody test is needed urgently.
