Coronavirus

The lack of testing is a disgrace and this government is going to get 1000s of people killed who needn't die because of their lack of action in so many different ways.

Where do you buy reliable tests from?

Spain and the Netherlands have sent Chinese tests back as they were less than 30% reliable.

I do know NICE are currently testing the tests and are yet to approve antibody tests as there needs to be 30 days of consistent results for approval.

Antigen tests are more difficult at the moment and reliability is the biggest key which all the drug companies are struggling with.

The government seem to have good ideas but the practicalities on delivery are biting them. Holding the government to account is important but the outrage isn't helping anybody. It's just embarrassing.

Not sure where you all live but Penn is quiet. Made very few ventures to the Penn road but when I have it is quiet. When I’m walking the dog everyone crosses over onto opposite sides. I see sons dropping off stuff to their elderly parents but they talk to each other through a window. If there’s people talking to each other in the street they are miles away from each other, sometimes on opposite sides of the road.

Yesterday went in Tesco express which was the first time I’d been inside any building that wasn’t my house since pre lockdown (managed 9 days with the previous big shop), and it was again quiet, mostly well stocked with social distancing lines everywhere.

So I’ve not been anywhere central to see how “busy” places are but round me it’s very quiet.

I used to work at The Mitre

Testing here (Ireland) has all but been suspended in many areas, it was going quite well but now have run out of kits (world shortage) and also the labs couldn't keep up with the testing stations, this us now compounded by a shortage of the reagent they need (again worldwide shortage) so I am told.

I rarely agree with Jonny, but this is spot on imo. The only criticism I have of our leaders is the way they have put out the info. Testing, equipment manufacture etc isn't going to happen overnight and they probably should have made the public aware of that.....easy for me to say when I don't have the loads of prpblems to deal with at the same time trying to keep morale up

They have had 3 months or more to prepare for this. That's what's embarrassing not the outrage. Apologist.

The difficulty with that point of view is Germany. Why do they manage so much more than us? Both countries have thriving chemical and lab industries. Yet we are doing a fraction of what they are doing.

2 months ago the WHO was saying "Test, test, test". What did our government do? Say that herd immunity was the answer. They are going to be responsible for the deaths of 1000s and they should be held accountable.

Three months?
So they knew on New Years day that there was a pandemic coming and the nature of what it was going to mean.
Total bollocks.

As far as I know the Germans collection of data isn't the same as everybody else. They're on their own which isn't helping anybody and it's comparing apples with concrete.

South Korea seems to be the one to compare to but their tests were coupled with a digital approach and somewhat Draconian measures.

Again the tests aren't reliable at the moment.

I agree with you on the information being relayed. This 'massive ramping up' is nonsense and should e been binned immediately. It isn't Brexit where lies and rhetoric win votes.

Last week, a Quantas plane chartered by the Govt brought 80 doctors back to Ireland, theyre all in isolation currently, which should be up next week and then theyre getting seconded to Hospitals all across the country, whereever theyre needed most. NOt much help withthesting but it will give the Health Service a massive boost

Check the facts.
It wasn't declared a pandemic by the WHO until March 11th.
On the 16th (2 weeks ago) they tweeted; 'test, test, test'. Recommending all 'suspected cases should be tested'.
Now we have a shortage of both reliable kits and reagent.

The warnings were coming out of China from early January. I should have said nearly 3 months, ok?

That’s been debunked. I hardly ever agree with Andrew Neill, but he looked into this with some fellow German journalists and concluded we are comparing apples with apples. He even apologised for holding a similar viewpoint to you.

Surely the point being that if lessons had been learned from China it wouldn't have been a pandemic? If testing and contact tracing had taken place immediately this could have been shut down much more easily.

No it's not ok.
Besides which the wanings should have been coming out of China early December and my suspicion is well before that.
If you're looking to blame someone blame the Chinese.
They are wholly resonsible for this pandemic which will kill hundreds of thousands, possibly millions.

I was in Northern Italy (Milan, Malpensa, and elsewhere) late October and had symptoms early November.
Shortly after that the wife had same.
Daft I know but I'm still suspicious.
