Coronavirus

Squeeze has had to go out and find micro, who appears to think using his hour exercise to sprint up the road to his ex-girlfriends house is acceptable. We are not amused.

We’re not going to have a true idea of the figures until this as been overcome and all the data can be compiled.

The average number of deaths for a week in March over the last 5 years is 10500, so we’re talking 1500 a day as a “normal” amount. It’s not going to be until we can analyse this retrospectively to see the full extent. A lot of ill people are catching this in hospital and dying. Whether they were dying anyway, Covid or no Covid, we won’t know, but it will add to the Covid related death stats regardless.

Thats very interesting from a purely objective point of view

Id like to see covid19 deaths as a subset of total deaths today - is that possible?

Data doesn’t come out that quick. Only got up to week ending 20th at the minute. All the data is on ONS though.

There was a programme on radio 4 about a fortnight ago, where they discussed this, and said that Covid-19 is causing a years worth of deaths in a very short time, that's the problem and why health services get overwhelmed, yes some of the patients would have died shortly anyway, some would have lived for a year and been on the following years figures

Yes I agree there. For example someone in hospital with dementia may be dying but have no issues with their lungs, however they catch it and then have lung issues putting stress on respiratory wards, ventilators etc. So it’s the number in one area of healthcare, rather than healthcare in general

Annoying that car usage has gone up over the last couple of days. Stay at home you wankers.

Noticed that. By Wednesday last week it was very quiet. Tonight on my walk it's been noticeably busier.

Yep. A lot more cars stopping when I drop the level crossings. Where the fuck are these people going? Get the fuck home you dickheads

Not really ramped up down here as yet - don't live that far away from the only main road through/around the town (well it is quite a small one) & if I go into the garden get the odd car but nothing else apart from birdsong.

I live on the A4037 and the road doesn't really seem to have got any quieter. Fuck knows where everybody is going.

I walked home from the work the other day, a 20 minute walk, and counted 29 people out and about.

"Britons spent £160m more on alcoholic drinks from supermarkets and off-licenses in the first three weeks of March in a coronavirus panic booze buying frenzy, according to data released on Wednesday.

In total, shoppers stripped £840.5m worth of beer, wines and spirits from the shelves from the beginning of the month to 21 March compared to £676.2m in the same period last year, the Grocer reported. £365.5m was spent in the week to 21 March alone.

By comparison, last Easter people in the UK spent £320 on alcoholic drinks, while in the week of last Christmas drinks cabinets were stocked up to the tune of £531m."

Not just Britons, Texans too. Last month was my busiest ever month, sales up 66% on March 2019. Last week and the week before were the two busiest weeks we have ever had and although the customer count has now gone back to normal, people are still spending more.

This is not sustainable. Some days cash accounts for less than 5% of the total and credit card bills are just going to mount up for many families. Even though my store is in a fairly wealthy part of town with mostly professionals whose jobs are not yet affected, it would be foolish for anyone to think that they are insulated from the coming recession bringing almost unheard of unemployment numbers.

Is spend going up, or are you just getting a bigger share of wallet with other licensed premises closed?

i heard a 5 minute traffic update earlier, how the fuck is there still a 5 minute traffic update these days.
neighbour, a self employed painter and decorater is still out every day doing god knows what.
And the traffic on my main road is still steady currently..... car every 10 secs or so.

I'm on a main road and been feeling the same. Also, I ca't understand why there are still cars out and about after 8/8.30. Everything is shut then, so where the fuck you off to?

House opposite us has had visitors every day now for 4 days. One guy in his van (though today it was a car). They brought a mattress with them one day this week, and took it into the house. today, 3 people visited and went in. when they left, on of the visitors stayed, and someone from the house went with them.
