We seem to be missing this thread, and the Cardiff thread is too retrospective...so being a solutions person, what do we reckon the team should be for a tough home game against Chelsea? Although form isn't showing it, I do think we are better at home and against attacking teams, and a point isn't totally unrealistic (especially as our IF seem to drop back a bit more in these types of games, exactly what we need them to be doing).

I'd go for:

Patricio
Dendoncker-Coady-Boly
Doc-Moutinho-Saiss-Vinagre
MGW-Jota
Raul

It's tough to know whether to bring Bennett back in or not, as Saiss isn't a centre back (and I don't think defence is our major problem, nor should it be messed around with too much) but that's what we brought Dendoncker for so let's play him there and use Saiss for the banned Neves (I could make an argument for playing Hause, but sadly it doesn't seem you could play him and Boly in the same team). Again MGW deserves a start after recent games but against Chelsea in a midfield two I'm not sure is the right time to play him in a CM role, so let's have him as an IF given Costa and Traore offer so little. Jota looks to have some sharpness back as well so let's get him back in and see if he can recapture form. I could make an argument for a variety of selections but I think this might be the strongest based on recent performances.

I'd go for the same team, but swap Dendonker & Saiss.

Neves is banned, so you can't (unless the ban doesn't kick in straight away and I've missed this??)

I think he is saying play Saiss at the back and leander in midfield?

I'd bring Bennett back in for this one and play Dendoncker alongside Moutinho. MGW and Jota to provide passing options for them central and also make us more compact, go back to what we are good at in our defensive shape.

Good call on reflection given the opposition.

I meant the same team as you! :)

Ahh gotcha! My worry is just Saiss isn't necessarily the best at the back, and I'd like to see Dendoncker there given he *should* be the longer term solution for CB.

-------------------Ruddy-------------
-----Bennett----Coady---Boly-------
--Doherty----Saiss---Moutinho---Vinagre
------------------MGW---------------
---------Jota---------Jimenez-----

I know that puts emphasis on Doherty to cross the ball, but I really do think we need an extra man in midfield, even more so given the way Chelsea set up.

This on TV?

Sorry, couldn't be bothered to check for myself :icon_lol:

Does MGW have the concentration and discipline to sit on Jorginho when Wolves are out of possession.

Tony's team but with Rui still in goal.

I'd play Dendoncker at either RCB or CM if Nuno was willing to pick him, but he clearly isn't for whatever reason.

What I would go with (though you could put Saiss in the Dendocker role or Cav in the Jota one without changing the basic dynamic)

Do need one of the front 3 able to come back & bolster the midfield & MGW is the only one who can fill that role.

It may be in the reporting, it may be a manager keeping his cards close to his chest, but this is just wibble

Some genuine nonsense in there.

-Not sure how he thinks Huddersfield was a worse performance than Cardiff, at least you can point to the former doing a job on the gameplan but Cardiff was just an intentional shitfest of matching them at their own game
-Figuring out what's happening then not changing anything because you believe in your way, that's how the Huddersfield game goes the way it did
-Presumably thinks Saiss is better at hoofing the ball as far up the pitch as possible and that's why he played against Cardiff

Calls for Ruddy are vastly premature. We'd be in a much worse position with him and soft or not, Cardiff first goal is a foul to many refs as its deliberate obstruction of an an attempt to play the ball.

My worry here is the space that 343 is going to allow Hazard from his role. Bennett back from me and then I'd actually go MGW in CM as he is the most mobile cm we have. Would go Cav and Jota as feel they would offer the most defensive discipline.
