Chelsea 3-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Taking these in order.

He has plenty of pace and runs the channels and off the shoulder better than any if our forwards.

Yes he was he was orders of magnitude better than Sarabia (not difficult).

Rodrigo was no better than Guedes. Both linked up down the right, both buffed and puffed but couldn't make anything happen.
Come on. R Gomes was WAY better than Guedes last night. He looked, and was, active and got into various positions to create something.

Guedes IS too slow. No one’s expecting a track star, but he turns the half yard advantage into a two yard deficit every time. To be clear, he’s far from the worse. JRB showing a staggering turn of sloth when given a chance to break forward last night. In fact, R Gomes partly stands out as he’s one of the only ones to have any ‘footballers’ pace in this team. Many of them seem to be hesitant mentally, for nearly a year now, which isn’t helping.

You can argue RAN needed to get back quicker, that's fair enough.

But Doc didn't need to try and mark anyone. As we used to see with players like Ferdinand and Terry, the positioning of how they defended their 6 yard line when crosses come in is vital. They never used to constantly mark players and get pulled out of position, they put themselves along the 6 yard line to defend the ball coming in and used to head and kick everything away, high and low. I guess Doc isn't a natural CB but he should still have enough experience to do better IMO.
It's something that happened against Newcastle too, Bueno passed Isak off to Doherty for the 2nd goal but Doherty went to the edge of the box instead. Before that 2nd goal last night you can see Bueno trying to communicate with Doherty to hand the man over - it could be something they've been asked to do tactically to provide a free man to attack the ball at the near post. They're getting it wrong though.

The whole setup looks horrible on that 2nd goal though on the highlights. Semedo looks like he's in central midfield so Agbadou gets drawn out to left back defending the cross which obviously leaves a massive gap in the backline. Semedo sort of gets back but then falls asleep when Dewsbury Hall makes his little burst to the box. Both centre midfielders stroll over to the left, running past Dewsbury Hall without giving him a seconds thought. It's awful organisation.

Having chance to think about it a public dig at Cunha isn’t a good look.
Plus Cunha despite last night is still one of the very few positives about this squad.
It was still his corner that created the goal.
Public flogging just doesn’t look good and again it’s more drama at the club for the wrong reasons.
I think Ipswich advantage over us is they’re probably more a collective unit and have a head coach they can probably trust more and willing to work harder for.
Wins will probably only come against teams on the beach or ones more chaotic than us probably leaves 4-5 teams.

Two home games coming up and we need to show some gumption despite the opposition. That won’t help the outcome while we’re fielding a back line that’s disjointed and inadequate even by our recent standards, so that needs urgent attention too. However, falling apart across the rest of the pitch won’t help.

Last night showed why he wants and needs another battler in the middle of the pitch too. Leadership by example as much as anything.

If he’s pissed off with Keen he can’t be too happy with VP who pretty much said the same thing.
VP going in on him seems bizarre given Cunha reportedly had the flu last week. Didn't VP himself even mention it?

Very worrying, limp performance depressingly familiar with the start of this season. Too easy to play against, shit defending, vulnerable from set pieces, players downing tools and far too many of them nowhere near good enough.

We don't have enough strong characters who are up for a relegation fight. And when one of them is comfortably your best player, it only points one way.

Vitor has a lot of work to do - but that'll all be for naught if he's not backed and we can bring in new players. Who on here can say that they expect that to happen? if we do bring anyone in, it'll be the £10m-15m bracket of untested players who will probably turn out not to be good enough.

First Lemina, then Doyle now Cunha. Is this Peirera dude going to alienate every fucker all the way to the Championship.

I mentioned that when he singled out Doyle after one of the earlier games . O' Neil would have been castigated for it.....so fair is fair .

Pereira plays very close to the edge .

When a team is fighting for its life, you need an 'us against the world' mentality. VP MUST publicly support Cunha. He can say whatever the hell he wants to him behind closed doors, but the team has to show a united front to everyone else. We just cannot afford discontent within the team. The only other option is to drop Cunha from the squad completely - and that will guarantee relegation.

I think what he's trying to preach is togetherness and pushing in the same direction rather than individualism and moaning.

Which is fine, but just say that to the players, not to journalists. It will probably have the opposite effect to enhancing togetherness.

I think you can get away with this kind of approach when you have a foundation of power at a club; but he's just come in, we're in the shit, rotten from top to bottom and he doesn't even have any of his 'own' players at the club to speak of either. Needs to tread carefully

I think we're missing the bigger picture. We start a back 3 with Santi, Doc, and Agbadu. Only one of them would be on another PL roster as a defender. With Doc and RAN, why are either of them playing? Because we aren't good enough for them not to play. I'd sell RAN for his $40-50M to United and roll out R Gomes and Pedro Lima at LWB the rest of the season. At least we'd have someone who cares and doesn't mind running both offensively and defensively for 90 min.

This team only has to be better than Ipswich and Leicester the rest of the season as it looks like Everton is slowly out distancing themselves from us. Yes, our fixture list is brutal, but not sure we can get a point or beat anyone from 14 down if we were to play this weekend.

Still need another defender to sign this window. Not sure if anyone good enough really wants a relegation battle to come into.

Can we play a back 8 and have a clean sheet?
