Cardiff 2 -1 Wolves: The Pantwetting Verdict.

We will definitely look at signing a forward player. None of our IFs have convinced at all - no consistency in their performances at all. Some of that (Costa, Jota) is for me to do with how we are using them this season plus a real lack of confidence, whereas Traore is little more than an impact/moments player and a bit harsh on Cav as he missed start of season and while he has got a couple of goals has been very inconsistent performance wise.

Unless something has gone seriously wrong behind the scenes we won't be sacking Nuno. Several players have a month now to prove why they should be here - if they don't the club will be very ruthless and spend big in the transfer market. We already need a wing back, that is clear - we have to sign a forward to complement Raul and it is increasingly becoming important who we saw to play outside of the main striker.

I can see Dendoncker starting in midfield on Wednesday anyway.

I think Jota need to play, think he is playing at 3 out of 5 of capacity..more conecerned about Costa after his injury...Cav will be fine too i think..goalscoring player regardless of system, we need desperately..dont think Dendoncker will start though. Got a feeling Nuno doesnt rate him that much

Cav and Jota showed much better movement than the other forwards when they were on the pitch, for me that was all that was needed to get around Cardiff’s bog standard defenders but we just lumped it forward for them to chase for the most part anyway.

I agree on Jota. I think he will come back in to the starting eleven now. He's been given a bit of a breather from the team following his injury and in the past few games has looked sharper than at the start of the season. We are undoubtedly a better team with him in it. I would start Cav and Jota on Wednesday with Raul.

I think Leander has been unfortunate that we signed him late with a lack of pre-season - this should have been his chance though. he's a top quality footballer, I was absolutely buzzing when we signed him. I'd play him with Moutinho against Chelsea.

As I said in my list, we can't afford Rui's distribution to go under the radar either. It's a major hindrance. Everyone knows now that we kick it to Doherty 9 times out of 10. I don't think he won more than 1 out of 10 last night (not his fault, they just doubled up on him and we don't have the kind of presence anywhere else to match that). We just lose possession all the time.

He's not Lonergan/Murray/Jones bad, but he's certainly Mark Bosnich bad.

It's weird because his short passing is fine and he can move the ball quite quickly but anything further and his left foot just becomes a complete swinger.

he's an absolutely brilliant goalkeeper but it can be limiting for us at times.

FWIW in my opinion Nuno won't be leaving he'll be backed, while we berate the teams performance its the forwards who are the main problem. We just keep giving the ball back to invite more pressure. I think we need to get 2 forwards in and play MGW behind them (I don't think that will happen though).Problem being our wing backs will need to cross the ball. As I have already said Costa and Jota just aren't cutting it at this level. It may be just a run of bad form but that only washes for so long.

Nuno will be sitting down with Jeff and Jorges planning the reset. (big investments will be made). I'm very positive that we will get there (didn't want Europa league anyway :)).

It isn't easy at this level lets face it! we had a good start which now looks even more important than I suspected it would be.

Raul was quite crap last night but that was his first stinker for me his work rate is usually very high but no-one performing beside you doesnt help a link up player.

Traore would of been more effective coming on late but Nuno had to try something because of the form of IF's (unfortunately Cavs last match really didn't deserve a starting berth)

One thing did make me smile last night when someone in the pub said that we shouldn't have sold Afobe. I wouldn't even print my reply I was quite drunk by then :drink2:

Timbo has given both Traore and Costa a 4/10 rating for last night, which I think is the lowest mark he has given any player all season.

As I see it, we can argue the semantics of who is worse as long as we like, but Nuno needs to find a solution up front and he needs to find it damn fast, or he is going to be under very serious pressure indeed.
Gave Cav a 3 on Sunday

I didn't read the article from Sunday so that would explain why I hadn't seen that lower mark (which was very much justified by a truly awful performance by Cav)

Numbers are arbitrary (so I never bother when I do ratings) but he only gave Doc a 5 at Leicester when 1 would have been generous.

He isn't. He is a goalkeeper capable of making incredible saves. That makes him a fantastic shot stopper . His box command , kicking, distribution are all areas for improvement

On goalkeepers..I just feel not much difference..clearly Allison for Karius was..only this is how good with the feet, passing and distribution..shot stopping is good in this level(that de gea save last night was an exception)

His box command is pretty good actually. Just been shaky past couple of games - a sign of a lack of confidence like the rest.

It's embarrassing that posters are so bothered about a £3m difference. If you going to label Traore shite every 5 minutes why not Costa who really has been terrible, Jota when he had played, Cav against Huddersfield - which was one of the worst performances I've seen for a very long time.

Its not victimhood, it's just rather pathetic you and others reserve shit etc just for one player.

You need to read a bit better. I've said plenty of times on this thread that Costa was shocking and Traore was good and bad in equal measure.

I don't think he has a brain as a footballer. That's not saying he's shit but in a formation where you need cerebral footballers he's always going to struggle. Pulis Gabe him one job. He did well at it

These are players limits and it's clear to me he isn't good enough for this level as his brain isn't there.

Waste of money IMO

come on Johnny, let go from the safeboard..he brings something we dont have, right? Even you have to realise that.. :)

What does he bring? As I say, anything between one and four runs a game. None of them come to much, as briefly as exciting as they look. He never looks like scoring himself.

The rest of the time he can't control the ball and he never moves (you do not see this on TV).

He's a very poor signing. I don't want to keep talking about him but he has his own Eastwood/Milijas/Edwards defence force it seems.

Ok I will explain..if he does one thing that bring us a goal and a win..good enough for me, he really is good enough keeping the ball and passsing it on if you ask me(you can watch the game again if you like...what have the rest of the have brought? nothing, zero impact! Im talking about the inside forwards of course..Costa out and Jota in..not a poor signing at all..there is a reason he was at barcelona for sure

So he's dining out on one goal, three months ago.

Excellent.

Against a slow defence he should have merit in his pace. We can ping a ball out wide and let him charge after it. But I can't see him being a starter for us. His assets seem to be all aimed to impact sub status. I hope we can train him into something more than he is at the moment. But every supporter of teams where he has been before (bar Middlesbrough) seems to say he has the footballing brain issue that has been outlined.

I don't know why Boro was the outlier. Presumably being the outlet for Pulis ball plays to his strengths. One thing is clear, the Nuno method of playing definitely doesn't at the moment. Early days in his Wolves career, but we simply cannot afford to carry him. Same as we cannot afford to carry Costa at the moment, or indeed Jota and Cav if they don't buck their ideas up. We desperately NEED end product from our wider forwards. And if we don't get it from these players, we will buy it from elsewhere in January.
