Bristol City 1 - 2 Wolves: Verdict thread

Portuguese football is a farce, remind us who’s European champions.

Sounds like Nuno’s looking at a 3-year stretch with that narrative....you lost, get over it - maybe a bit more passion from your own manager might have helped you in the heat of the battle.

Worth noting that last season and the one before Johnson was on the pitch at Molineux complaining and getting in the refs face, he's hardly an angel

I’ve never known a team top of this division endure so much hatred from opposition fans, wouldn’t say we’ve been arrogant as fans just more enthused and excited.

Every game we have played v Johnson he has ended the game in the refs face. Only surprise from last night was he managed to watch replays before being interviewed so he managed to give a calm and fair assessment of the game. Normally have to listen to him cry over crap.

Newcastle got a lot of stick last season and most fans celebrated when they lost a game. We are just not used to it...plus not many teams have had a lead like we have and we all love to see a team collapse and throw something away.

If we were 3rd position and Boro were doing what we are doing we would be firing shots at them at every opportunity

Yeah, just the way it is..bet man c get a lot of shit too

In fairness to him he gave a very honest post match interview post match.

There is one guy who has posted our real net spend of about £11m, rather than the fictional £50m, just nobody wants to hear it.

We will get this all season - people only remember the headline grabbing big ticket buys & don't even think about the sales made or free transfers we also have

Back to the match - having calmed down after yesterday think that Nuno got it wrong when Batth was sent off. Can see the merit in bringing Bennett on (partic as with him behind Doherty seemed better able to start to nullify their threat down that side) , but should have been Costa who went off not Leo as Costa & Jota were never going to be enough. (That's assuming that he didn't want to make a second sub that early & bring Cav on as well then)

Allowed City to get a much bigger foothold on the game & put us on the back foot for a time

As to Nuno - will no doubt get another fine & a politely worded letter to behave himself in future

Was clearly extremely hyper though as was still fully pumped up when he came over to the away fans with the team

Not sure why they played hoofball when they had the extra man. Strange stuff and meant they were never really controlling the game, even if we weren't offering huge amounts until Cav came on (though that said, Baz was so unlucky with the first free kick).

It's never a red card for Batth (look at where the Bristol player is when he makes contact with the ball, then the latter rolls around and squeals like a cunt) but wouldn't be surprised if it's not overturned. Ref won't accept he made an error. I did say though that he would look at it at HT and end up trying to even it up, he got that chance and did it. I think Fielding did deserve to go but you often see refs bottle it there and factor in defenders running back (not that they would have stopped anything). Great ball by Cav and superb work by Doc who had one of his good days.

All over them once we equalised and fully merited the winner. Better header than it looks from Bennett as the ball's hit so hard. Shocking by Baker, I can only think he didn't know there was anyone behind him and was ducking to let it go out of play. You should know though.

MOTM Cav, changed the game.

Some very strange comments on here.

Danny Batth's red card and the withdrawal of Leo nullified our offensive capability until Ivan's arrival. With no outlet through the middle Costa and Jota were fighting one handed and I think any criticism of them based on their contribution would be harsh. I still think Costa isn't back to the player he was before his injury, but maybe I've become so accustomed to watching Jota that he's just not matching him, but then again, no one is in this league either. With no outlet the choices are often go it alone or wait for the side with 11 men to get behind the ball. I wouldn't personally expect those two not to attack.

For 40 minutes we restricted one of the divisions form sides to very few real chances, our work rate was fantastic, no one disappeared and it might be easy to point fingers for Bristol's goal, had Leo been on the end of a slick passing move he started near the halfway line that sliced through one of the divisions best defences like butter we would have been in raptures. It was a great move.

Ivan's introduction changed the game. His pass to Doherty was perfection, Matt's judgement was superb and having squandered their period of numerical advantage Bristol didn't have enough gas in the tank to handle Ivan going full pelt for 25 minutes.

The mistake that led to our winner is the kind we used to make. Instead, we created the kind of chance we now score.

Whilst it might not be one of the flashiest, it was a great team performance under the kind of difficult circumstances we all know foreign players and coaches can't handle.

Nice way to end the year.

Cav's first touch was magnificent from the moment he came on. He was brilliant.

The pass for the Saiss chance was delicious.

OTIB is a delight today - been discussing the red cards & the Saiss foul which gave us the winner

Mixed views on Danny's foul, but accepting as we have that he gave the ref a decision to make and in real time it looked worse than it possibly was. Many think that Fielding's wasn't as Doherty hung his leg out into Fielding & just went over - of course any player who has got the ball past the keeper who has rushed out of his area & with no defender near enough to stop him rolling it into an empty net does that (partic as it was outside the area so wouldn't even get a penalty)

And the winner came from a FK that wasn't as clearly wrestling a player to the ground is allowed - Pack's problem was not booting it out of play once he had won the ball - time would have been up with that

So the “We move on” plan is going well for them then.

I thought Saiss was brilliant yesterday, after Batth got sent off he was everywhere and trying to get forward to support Costa and Jota. Even after all the running he still had the energy to get through on goal towards the end, played a lovely pass to Bright which was nearly a goal and did brilliantly on the right flank to win the free kick that led to the winner.

Saiss was excellent. Neves pulls the strings from the centre of the park, but Siass often gets up and down to the opposition in a more attacking sense. He's a great foil to Ruben's more measured approach.
