Bristol City 1 - 2 Wolves: Verdict thread

Ref got conned by all that rolling around by Magnusson in my opinion. Not a red. Brizzle's one was a red as Doherty is just going to tap that into an empty net otherwise.

tremendous result from the position we were in. batth never a sending off for me. another shit decision from someone who's probably never had to make a tackle, or in this case, get to the ball first.

I did wonder how easy that tap in for the doc would have actually been. he was certainly prevented from having a go at it, so a fair decision.

loving the gap at the moment. start again next year.

HNY everyone.

Was right in line with that - that one wasn't dubious at all (even allowing for my Wolves bias)

Had it been against us, I would have questioned the attacking players desire to get to the ball and slot it home. I thought he did well to stay on his feet after the initial challenge just before but could have got out of the way of the keepers leg on the ground. I still think he did the right thing though.

It was a goal if the keepers leg hadn't intervened - he was in control and only needed to get past the keeper.

The defenders weren't really near enough to intervene & any decent touch on the ball & it was in the net (even Doherty would have managed that & he had a good game yesterday apart from being rinsed early on by Magnusson) - it was a bit of a way out, but the defenders were not getting there first.

Was right in line with that

Just watched the game back. I thought we were excellent. The way we defended (Bristol goal aside) after the sending off was fantastic and once the keeper went off we totally dominated. I'm going to have to give my MOTM to one of our true unsung heroes this year, Ryan Bennett. Even before Batth's stupid sending off we looked dodgy down the right hand side, twice in the first 10 minutes a Bristol forward ghosted inbetween Batth/Doherty and then Batth/Coady completely unmarked for very good chances but as soon as Benno came on we completely shut down that side of the pitch. He made several crucial tackles, including a lovely slide tackle on Bobby Reid, won a few important clearing headers up against that mutant centre back they threw up front in the second half and then he was in the right place at the right time to win the game.

I wasn't sure when we first signed him, I thought he'd be our 6th choice centre half and when it was clear we were going to be going with the 3-4-3 I didn't think he'd be able to adapt to RCB. I didn't see the point in signing him at all but he's proven me wrong. He's a top CB at this level IMO, his positioning, reading of the game and calmness mask any lack of pace/strength and he times his tackles/headers brilliantly. There have been a few times where I've thought that his passing has held us back a bit especially against the teams that sat off us and parked the bus but fair play to him he's improved that as well, he's played some lovely passes in recent weeks.

Where have you watched it back from mate? Or just recorded? I really want to re-live the game

Agree on Bennett, and the difference between him and Batth. Just a better defender all round. Not the best on the ball but he has done his job very well for the team. Can’t really fault him.

So a big thank you to Lambert and the Kevster for Bennett (& Ruddy) then...

Fair to say Bennett has surprised everyone with the levels of performance.

My feelings exactly, Lycan. He won't get in the Championship team of the season as that'll go to Flint for scoring goals, but he bloody well ought to

I wasn't that impressed by the signing of Bennett at the start of the season and didn't see him as much more than cover. He's played his way into the team on merit and is another who has improved under Nuno's tutelage.

Jody Craddock MK2?

Newcastle got a lot of stick last season and most fans celebrated when they lost a game. We are just not used to it...plus not many teams have had a lead like we have and we all love to see a team collapse and throw something away.

If we were 3rd position and Boro were doing what we are doing we would be firing shots at them at every opportunity

Everyone hated us in the 90s AND we were shit. At least this team can shut them up through football. I'm fucking loving it.

I think you just summed it up perfectly. I will take being hated and being fucking Godlike at this level all day. Then we can plan to be a force at the higher level over the summer months (well preferably from March if we can get the job done quickly).

Its awesome being a Wolves fan at the moment and long may it continue.

And that is what I fail to understand. People putting views forward that do not comply with the agenda on this forum should not be subjected to abuse. But as I said last night, I no longer care what some people on here think about me.

Regarding the game, I stand by my comments that we would have lost had the Bristol City goalkeeper not lost his head. In my opinion it was begining to look like Sheffield United away where we had a silly sending off and deservedly lost. That is not trolling, it is putting forward a point of view.

Not sure I really get this. If their keeper hadn’t lost his head it would have gone 1-1 and as you know, usually when you score the emphasis usually changes.

Cav coming on made a huge difference to the game and that was at 10v11.

I stand by it being a touch unlucky, but not a shocking decision. It's a bloody stupid challenge to make in a nothing area of the pitch. Winning the ball is irrelevant, it's a lunge with force and the second he did it I thought he'd be off.

At full speed it looks a red and it is totally down to Batth for giving the ref a decision to make.

That's where I stand as well. Look, Danny may have won the ball well, there could be plenty of extenuating circumstances, but he gave the referee an opportunity to deal out the severest sanction. If Danny pulls out of the challenge, what do Bristol City have? At best the ball near their own penalty area with one centre back of ours out of position. To risk the final result of the challenge just struck me as not sensible play.

Gave the ref a decision to make, sure. How about the ref makes the right decision?

I'm not going to castigate one of our players for making a tackle and winning the ball.

Could have easily broke his foot too, if we are using stills.

As you could with any number of fair tackles. Remind me how Bobby Zamora broke his leg.

It's Magnusson who is late, not Batth.

Trusting that referee to get it right might well be a bit of a leap of faith as well. For me, it was a challenge that didn't need to be made. And yes, I agree that Magnusson was also out of order and then made a lot of it to ensure the bad result for Danny.

I am glad we are challenging it. I also expect us to get absolutely no joy in doing so.
