Best holiday destinations

It kind of depends what you want to do. If you like art there's a Michaelangelo sculpture in the cathedral which is stunning and the canal tour is well worth it. The bars around the town square are pretty expensive so I'd recommend the bars in the back streets away from the main square. I have no names of any places and if you can't find a decent beer on tap in any of those places you are doing something wrong. It is all ace (apart from the Irish bars, they're shit).

The local grog Brouwerij Bourgogne des Flandres is bloody ace and on tap in most places you will visit. The chocolate is great in almost every place you go and as Wombat says Moulles frites or a beef stew with copious amounts of roasties is just the ticket.

I'd stay away from any Irish bars as they're shite.

Thank you, sir! We'll want to be cultural as well as sampling some good beers. We're as likely to go to an Irish pub as I am to get an Adrian Chiles tattoo so no issues there.

And I agree with Wombat. (Let's face it, when you've been to McGhees you don't need to go in an Irish pub ever again...)

General query: Why do people go on holiday and then spend time in an English/Irish/Scottish bar? Why? - I know of a couple who were in Nice and headed straight for the Irish pub rather than explore the city. FFS.

To pick an example: I wanted to watch the Wales vs England game in 2005 when I happened to be in Madrid. Shoot me.

I wouldn't go to a city and spend hour after hour after hour in one, but I don't stop wanting to watch certain events because I'm on holiday.

I don't know or understand. However when I lived/worked in the UAE/Qatar most bars over there were themed for obvious reasons.

Has anybody ever been away on a Eurocamp type holiday? I'm toying with taking the kids away but it needs to be in the main school holidays this year which is making it bloody difficult financially now that I'm on my own

We went in one (there are several for some inexplicable reason) to watch the rugby back in February as it was the only place that had it on. Lovely looking bar serving swill like Guinness.

In the main I never see the point in going to Britain-on-sea when you're abroad.

The James Joyce in Prague is an Irish pub,was pragues first,it's like a little village pub,the drinks are cheap, the atmospheres great, staff are great, and it's off the tourist trail you have to know it's there or you'll walk past it,it's a genuinely nice place, that's why I go,the others Irish pubs and English pubs are shite though

De Halve Maan Brewery tour is a must Langers. It's one of Brugge's oldest breweries IIRC.

Cheers Phil - it's on the list!

We went on Eurocamp last year and I worked as a courier on them when I was younger. They are what they are - a very good base to explore surrounding areas and beaches. I wouldn't go to the really touristy places (I worked on a couple on the French riviera and they were way way too busy).

We went to languedoc this year and stayed for a few nights in he Loire valley on the way back , all very nice, but more expensive than I thought it would be.

As for restaurants, Diligence is fab - and Kwak and Bourgogne des Flandres are great beers.

It appears that Diligence is literally opposite our hotel so we'll give that a try. Cheers, Jabba.

As a kid I went to Eurocamp in Frejus and also in Dol De Bretagne. Think they are both still there. I have fond memories of both, but the Frejus one would be heaving during the school holidays I imagine. Ace town though.

Watched Wolves Villa in there in 2012, lost 2-3.
We were slagging off Stephen Warnock all 2nd half. At the end of the game this woman goes to leave and comes over to us - "I'm Stephen's mom". So we have her some stick as well. Haha.

That's not a pint. Grumble grumble...

It's in Belgium, and I can GUARANTEE that a litre of kwak could be somewhat dangerous!

Kwak is bloody delicious. Very jealous about your trip to Bruges Langers.

We watched In Bruges again over Xmas, great film and really shows the town in a great way.

I won't attempt a litre of Kwak, I'm not that foolish! :icon_lol:

We both made a list of 3 things we want to see/visit. I put down the De Halve Maan Brewery, a canal trip and a posh restaurant. My other half listed the beer museum and 2 breweries :icon_lol: She's a good match!

Don’t forget the waffles - massive waffles laden with all the sweet treats you could possibly desire.
