Best holiday destinations

When are you going to Bruges? I ask not to stalk but to let you know there is a beer festival on in 3 weeks and it's brilliant. Imagine our beer festivals but without hipsters!

Not til early March. I doubt I'd survive a Belgian beer festival though TBH!!

I for one look forward to your post-beverage 3km stagger and crawl being posted on Strava.

Just booked two weeks in Kefalonia in August. My mother-in-law has a friend with a property there and she's offered it to us for £600 for one week or £600 for two weeks! We've taken the two week option, natch.
It looks a bit isolated so might get a bit bored, but if it's a choice of being bored at work in the crappy British climate or being bored by a pool in 35 degree sunshine...

Fiskardo is worth a day trip. probably would be busy but it's a pretty town and I think it's the only area on the island that's survived past earthquakes with architecture intact.

Cheers. I *think* that is our nearest town.

nice. you could probably do a boat trip to ithaca from there. not been there myself - home island of odysseus, when he wasn't fighting in troy and spending 20 years getting home and fucking around. still, he was a bit of a nobody.

In marvellous Monday morning news, The GF has just booked us a CHILD FREE city break in Bruges - I know some forumites have been before so any recommendations?

Advice on the best beer/bars will be just as valuable as other attractions!
De Zandloper Taphouse. Great bar with 18 keg and countless bottles.

Advice for anyone who fancies a city break - go to Bruges.

Totally fallen in love with this place. Stunning architecture, its the most photogenic city I've ever visited.

At this time of year, it's not too busy, it's rich with culture and history and best of all - the food and the beer are ridiculously good.

Sat here typing this in an ornate room under a massive chandelier with no-one else here (the other half is getting ready for dinner so I've an hour or two spare) relaxing in a massive armchair by a roaring fire supping a Westmalle Trappist beer (7%).

I don't want to come home tomorrow!

I know it's not a fashionable thing to say, but I bloody love Belgium. Great country all round. Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels and loads of other great places to visit.

Bruges is great but I actually prefer Gent. Quite similar but Gent just feels a little more 'authentic'. Plus it's livilier.

Yep but when you have become the Worlds most boring old fart you don't want lively anymore, I could quite happily holiday in a library :)

Antwerp is ace.

Get off with ya, you aren't that boring. Old yes, boring no.

Had the most amazing long weekend in Hamburg. Ok, it's not really a holiday for me in the sense that there's zero mystery about it (I know the city as a whole better than I know Wolves or Manchester) but it was ridiculously good.

I'll write it up properly in the next day or so.

Me too! Are you going to blog it on just put it in this thread?

In other news, I'll be visiting Lisbon in September for a mate's stag weekend (it'll be civilised - we're too old for partying at our age...). Hoping Benfica are at home that day!

I'll blog it I think, ain't nobody got time to be reading walls of texts on a forum. Click it if you want to read it, don't if you're not bothered.

Plus it'll be a rare "personal" one on there that isn't me saying how shit things have been :)
