The Fitness Thread

I've been on the treadmill for the past 6 months, just understand treadmill v road is somewhat different
The belt assembly has some give, which minimizes impact relative to hard ground or tarmac. Get some aspirin in case your joints really feel it the next day. 🙂

Just signed up for the 'dirt run ultra in the black country' - anyone done it before? Its 30th march next year

Anyone else running the Wolves 10k in a few weeks? Just ordered some new race shoes - looking forward to running out of Molineux for reasons other than being pissed off at the Wolves performance for a change.

I can't this year, but did it in 2022 and it was great (i came 10th, if only i could get that strong again)!

That final sprint along the Billy Wright was fantastic, soak it up it's really enjoyable.

10th???! Bloody hell. That is impressive!

Running with my best mate who is the reason I'm a Wolves fan - though he'll probably have finished and be several pints down before I do.

Aiming to be more like Adama Traore than Matt Doherty on that final straight past the BW.

I love my running but Fuck. That.

All the very best with it - please report back and tell us how it went!

After last week's 10k PB at Molineux, I managed a new 5k PB today at Worcester Pitchcroft Parkrun. Fantastic course, pancake flat, very friendly. Got round in 20:28, knocking 30 seconds off my previous best.

My next 5k goal is to get under 20 minutes, which I never thought I'd ever get close to getting.

But mainly, I'll be focusing on a couple of half marathons over the coming months, and all being well I'll get a place at the Manchester Marathon in 2026. Again, something I never even thought about trying to do before.

Manchester is ace, did it last year and the support was superb. Pretty flat too

Yeah it was part of the reason for choosing it. Never done more than a half marathon distance before so a flat course was an important factor!

And it's Manchester. I love the place.

Ah good choice. That's my local parkrun (less than 2 mile away) Fast and flat, other than that bit of bark and sometimes some wind as you come back towards the start line it's an ideal PB course (and mine too) 👌

Worcester half in September might be a good option for you?

Manchester is a good course, just the one very minor incline.

Newport is flatter still, but Christ it's grim down there.

I'm booked in for Chicago and Valencia later this year, although I'm not sure I'll be able to do the former now, due to life - must do Valencia though at all costs 😅

No bark there today - just a bit of astro for the hosses. Yep, Worcester half is one I've looked at. Signed up for the Brum half in May and I fancy the Black Country to Birmingham half in July too.

Well jealous of Valencia - I don't know if you follow It's On Andy on YouTube (I met him outside Molineux after the Wolves 10k - such a top bloke) but his Valencia Marathon vlog from last December is a fantastic watch, it looks like a superb event.

I'd welcome any marathon advice from yourself, @Tredman and any other posters who have done a marathon before, assuming I get a place as I really will be in uncharted territory. I'll take as much advice as I can!

Gill is doing Chicago, her 5th of the 6 (now 7) Abbott Majors. I was supposed to go with her, not sure about it now. We'll see what happens politically in the next few months.

As an aside for marathon runners, our new board game that we are working on currently is going to be called 26.2 and is a racing game with a marathon theme!

It’s pretty easy to get a Manchester place, you can get on the notification list.

Main thing is it’s going to be hard :) my first was Chester and it was a learning experience. Didn’t drink enough, didn’t know salt tablets existed and it was crazily sunny and hot. Other than that just follow a plan you’ll be fine.
