womens world cup?

Jill Ellis coaching this team is akin to Dean Saunders coaching Manchester City. So, so dense.

That's British coaching for you.

Well done Alan / Tech. USA were the better team, but we had our chances and didn't take them.

Stephen Houghton needs replacing as England's captain, and whole defence bar Lucy Bronze. Just not good enough f o r how we want to play.

Did you watch the Norway game? Houghton was EASILY the best defender on the pitch.

I'd say it was akin to a Conference North game but entertaining enough.

That penalty is diabolical though.

Had the chance didn't take it.
Poor Steph. That own goal last time and a missed penalty today.

On the penalty, why isn't the top scorer in the competition taking it?

I'm so distraught and angry, I'm off to smash up a pub...

State of this punditry. There's no bravery in standing up for a pen in open play. You want to do it, you make sure you fucking score.

Oh and semi finals can go and fuck right off. 4 lost in less than 12 months and only 1 won since 1990 involving Wolves and England.

Just wish we had actually properly fouled Alex Morgan. If she keeps falling over, give her a reason to.

I expected Ellen White to take it myself if Nikita Parris had lost confidence from her two earlier misses in the tournament.

It was a really enjoyable game, obviously at a lower standard, but it was a good watch. I have watched three of the games, and they have all been entertaining and worth sitting down in front of.

Number 13 innit. :windmilling:

Gabby Logan is an irritant.

Phil Neville has done a decent job. Go and get the gold at the Olympics.

I only watch the game, the punditry is beyond abysmal. Alex Scott at half time saying the Americans 'attack in blocks of power' was enough for me. Drivel.

Not sure this is right. I'm going back the thick end of 30 years here and we had girls playing with us from 7/8/9 and it was fine as girls develop quicker physically. Decent players too. Maybe the Vention was merely a hotbed of female football, well ahead of its time.

When I went to uni we had house football (I played for uni and was like well good) so I was captain and you had to have at least four girls, seven lads on a Sunday morning. Just a laugh really. But I can't play for a laugh, can I. So we're playing one dreary Manchester morning on a haphazardly marked park pitch, the ball comes to a hungover Dan 25 yards out, more or less on the half volley...what are you going to do? You thump it, don't you. And I can thump a ball if nothing else. We're talking Neil Masters levels (I've got the arse to match). Straight in some poor girl's mush. I was fucking mortified by that. Never spoke to her again when I saw her around campus.

I still shudder now at the noise it made.

At school I don't see the little ones playing as much as the boys. Tends to start around Y3. I've tried to give them a push with girls only football days and very slowly more and more of the 5 year olds are starting to join in. This may be unique to my school of course. I think a lot of girls are lost to the game during teenage years too. I know plenty of school teams at Primary level in Barnet and Haringey but it just peters out at Secondary. There are far more girls teams playing through to U18s now though than there were even 3-4 years ago so it will change eventually.

I sometimes work with a coach from London Bees and she reckons that technically the elite women are about on a par with L1 men.

Nah, not a chance.

Conference North/South at the very top, maybe. But we're talking very elite there. Your standard WSL player would be about Stourbridge level technically.

jesus cant wait for VAR next season, gonna be brilliantly shit.

Isn't it just?

One decision which would have had no material effect on the goal being scored and a penalty that nobody can agree on. Can't believe we get this shit every fucking week soon.
