Yeah I agree with that. Pay should be based on the number of people who get enjoyment from the teams achievements - in the US I would imagine the women's national game scores higher in that area.
In the US the womens team generates an equalish (sometimes slightly less, sometimes greater, in a 4 year cycle) than the mens team. And yet, while they're the ones winning, they are frequently flown in lower classes, booked at worse hotels, given lower quality meals, have access to worse training, etc. compared to the men. "BuT tHe MeN bRiNg In MoRe".... USWNT pay, relative to their revenue, is not comparable to the men. That's what the lawsuits against the american federation are all about.
I'm not going to get into this "the wimmunz not as gewd" argument because it misses the point. The last world cup was played on a bunch of astroturf... ASTROTURF!!! Can you
imagine the men every having to do that in any FIFA tournament?? Absolutely ridiculous, and is part of the wider issue where the women are relegated to 2nd tier status. Think it's a worse product? Ok, don't watch it. Hey, guess what... maybe it's not
for you.. And maybe spouting off about their inferiority at every opportunity is being an asshole? Mens football, which has been supported for decades and decades longer, is a better product? Dang what a hot take.
Whether they're better than the men or not is irrelevant. Someone is a dickhole if they believe the ladies shouldn't get some modicum of equal/fair treatment, whether it's pay by their federations or support by FIFA. Pushing the women to the peripheries of the sport just continues the cycle of them not being able to maximize their potential. What kind of a message does it send to girls everywhere by acting this way? Title IX is one of the reasons the US women are currently so dominant, and I hope it continues.
