Wolves - Middlesbrough 24/10/15 Verdict Thread

That is a very interesting point. Did you like Kevin Muscat? I did when he played for us. I'd have hated him if he played against us.

I did but I was a child at the time and didn't know any better. If he played for us now I'd hate him.

There's a line between clever, cynical football and heading out onto the pitch with the intention of hurting someone. Muscat was horrible and tbh the sight of his Australia jersey hanging up in our club museum made me a little nauseous (although that may well have been down to either the lurid yellow of that filthy rag or the bitch of a hangover I was trying to shake off at the time).

Re the above - it was only limited elements of the SB joining in, most of us didn't understand the logic of the chant & it got a few boos/comments

Observations - agree with others, we have to stop trying to defend deep in our own half. We are not good enough to do that for that long.
Afobe can play as a lone striker, but it would help if we don't thump it 30ft into the air at him as we did for most of the first half
Clearly not an offside for Afobe - he was behind the defender & rolled him. Clear and in on goal as a result.
On another day one of those goal line clearances wouldn't have happened (Afobe's header - Price's shot, how I would loved to have seen that go in was right in line and it was really well taken) - they weren't actual deliberate clearances, just that someone's head got in the way & in the case of Price's shot the defender wasn't even looking at it just running across the goal.

Fabrini running the show for them & that was clear in the first half - having gone in ahead why that was not highlighted & dealt is criminal. He carried on doing it in the second half as well (& how come that when Jack Price comes on as the obvious individual to deal with that problem is he playing the furthest forward from central midfield when that's not his greatest skill?)

A good weekend nonetheless - highlights being a meet up with a number from on here (good to see LJ looking happy following his job news), Darlo's 'discussion' with the bearded twat 2 rows down which I thought was likely to be decided by a knockout in the third round, decent curry later & an extension to my education with a first visit to McGhee's with Darlo strutting his stuff on the karaoke - worth every penny I spent coming up.

Yeah, I was young when Muscat played for us. Still liked him! I can remember the bloody nose he gave Overmares (sp) in that cup game!

He was a good player, I'll give him that. Properly nasty fucker though. Makes Paul Robinson look like a pussycat.

Yep i didnt get the Saville thing either...like im sure most of those dickheads knew he had any connection to boro.
Hear Newcastle fans singing "Jimmy Saville...hes Adam's old man" to Johnson today.

I was quite suprised we didnt sing something about them losing their steel jobs to be honest.

Well done Boro on the "£20 plenty" flag....Its got to a fucking ridiculous state.
Just taking the kids tickets into consideration, Preston charged £2 or £3 for u12 for us recently, however Birmingham is £15 and Bristol is £18 !!!!
then we have Ipswich charging £11.50 for U16's

There HAS to be some sort of level pricing structure throughout the league....its becoming a fucking joke.

Thought Muscat was a good player and initially just a hard tackling fullback in the Pearce mold, unfortunately he started believing the hype about himself and turned into a scumbag

But he wasn't from Middlesbrough.

To clear this up..Middlesbrough had a reputation for child abuse in the 80's and 90's, it was pretty rampant and at the time they were statistically the worst area in the country but that was a long time ago

It was in Cleveland tbf and included accusations in M'boro, Stockton and Hartlepool. The method of 'testing' was if IIRC discredited and as a result revealed that there was no exceptional trend in that part of the country.

I remember the 'shag a kid' chants when we went to Ayresome Park.

Savile came from Leeds, but bought his Mum a flat on the Esplanade in Scarborough. Savile lived at the flat when his mother died, and was pretty well deified by the Council in Scarborough. Huge crowds for his funeral and the council put a 'gold plaque' on the building commemorating the fact that he'd lived there. Fortunately someone sprayed "paedo filth" on it and it was hastily removed. Savile was initially buried in Scarborough, ostensibly requesting to be buried so he could see out to sea, but actually with a very fine view of three schools. Think he's now been dug up and moved elsewhere.
