Wolves - Middlesbrough 24/10/15 Verdict Thread

I'd like to see the Afobe offside decision again. Benik actually rolled his defender after the ball was played so there's no way he was offside. I'm convinced that the linesman flags for Golbourne who was still in an offside position after going down 'injured'.

I don't think there was much between Byrne & van La Parra tbh. Both of them skipped past a few Boro players in harmless areas of the pitch, both failed to create anything of note when given the ball on a counter attack and both conceded possession far too cheaply. You could see the penalty coming a mile off, similar to Golbourne's vs Brighton. Stupid tackle.

Edwards was probably our best player. Looked absolutely kicked in the second half though and that was before he pulled up with an injury.

Must disagree,Byrne got past his man, stretched the play and got crosses in.
Vlp got the ball.stopped.cut inside on his right foot everytime and then lost it
due to being crowded out.
I'll admit he's better defensively but he offers nowt to the team on that side of the pitch.

Only me who thinks boro were a cynical dirty side?

I wish we'd taken a leaf out of their book tbh. If someone had taken the opportunity early on to actually make contact with Fabbrini maybe he wouldn't have made us look so foolish chasing him around.

They did the exact same thing to us at the Riverside last year. It's not cheating, it's clever and I wish we'd do it more. I've said it before, we're far too nice to our opponents.

If Rajiv had given away that penalty I don't think anyone would be saying things like 'well, he looked quite tired so I'll forgive him'. I'm not saying that he did well but van La Parra is just an easy scapegoat in this instance, he wasn't any worse than Byrne. They were both just average.

To criticise him for cutting inside is harsh as well. He came on vs Brentford, did exactly that and looked our biggest attacking threat. KJ said in his interview afterwards that Rajiv's performance cutting in from the left was one of the few positives. It's what he was being asked to do by his manager.

RVLP did absolutely nothing of note, again. He's shit

Byrne wasn't much better, but did at times look like a decent player.

Rvlp is fast becoming the new scapegoat at Molineux, he was no better or worse than Byrne, aside from Byrne giving away a clumsy/dreadful penalty. Neither offered much, maybe due to neither having a run of games to find their feet?

Mind you; arguing about who is our best/worst winger is a little pointless as they're all pretty poor.

If the third ever came true I'll go to the Boxing Day game in a man kini.

In the cold light of day I do believe that the squad lacks depth of quality in all areas and, like last year, a few injuries and we look a poorer unit. The performance was much better but it says it all that Dave Edwards with all his limitations is already the leading contender for POTS, and I had also highlighted that he was one of the players , like Stearman that needed to be upgraded if we were to mount a promotion challenge. Its all about the mission and long term for me. The mission has to be that Wolves are the best team in the Midlands. When we are the best team we can re-visit it. The mission therefore now is for us to be 1. In the premiership 2. Above West Brom, Stoke and Villa and 3 to be self sustaining. We can only be 3 once we have promotion. We have to spend a bit to get there and it may take a new owner who recognizes that before we achieve it. I want the 140 million prem money not the 2 million champ cast off.
It did not take a footballing genius to work out what we needed in the summer to improve on a pretty good effort last year. We did not strengthen the squad in enough depth with enough quality or in the right positions. We sold Stears and Ricketts ( he might have got a game now given our injuries) failed to replace Sako and have no plan B striker. That said I am still on 5 or 6 points below what I expected so its not irretrievable . We do need something from the Blues next week.
after Brighton I said KJ needed 10 points from 7 games to keep my confidence in his job. We have 6 points from 5 so need 4 from the next 2 games and that will not be easy. Pressure mounting on the team and on the manager I am afraid

There's a little bit of me that wants Paul Ince to be manager...................................... ;)

And my point is he shouldn't be cutting in when he has Golbourne waiting for a pass down the line.
His footballing brain is not all that.
What makes me laugh the most is the amount of times he sprints up the pitch calling for the ball when Martinez
has it.
Its a token gesture from him,he's awful and the sooner rid the better.

Surely Paul Cook would be the fans favourite, what with him winning the champions league, cup winners cup and the Texaco cup last season

Another one on the manager for me. Far too negative in the second half, we played it as if we had 10 men. Once Boro scored there was only one winner. We more than matched them in the first half so it was a tactical error as far as I'm concerned to sit off and play so deep. Don't let teams pop passes off 30-35 yards from goal, we did it on Wednesday and we did it yesterday, end result is a goal.

Martinez: Made some decent stops and claimed crosses fairly well, on first look got his positioning wrong for the third (not that it mattered by then).

Doherty: He's played far, far worse but the penalty comes from there being a massive gap in the channel between him and Batth which always happens when those two play and he doesn't have the pace to turn and get back. It costs us goals time and time again.

Batth/Hause: Did pretty well yesterday. We do have a problem though in that neither can pass the ball into midfield.

Golbourne: Had a reasonable game.

McDonald: Much better than Wednesday but like many faded significantly after HT.

Coady: Actually looked better at centre half for my money. After a strong start I'm struggling to see what he adds to our midfield that we didn't already have.

Van La Parra: Did at least stretch their defence at times - but zero end product as per usual. Not good enough.

Edwards: Good goal. But other than some fairly fruitless energy, he doesn't link play like we need a player to do in that position.

Byrne: Looked lively so it's hard to see why his game time has been so limited. Not everything he did came off but there's enough there to work with. Silly challenge for the penalty which was coming a mile off.

Afobe: Much better playing up front, please end the vanity project of him playing deep.

We need to put a run together soon, if we look like getting sucked into the bottom six then the manager will not last long.

I was there when Dave Edwards beat a man with a Maradona turn.

Might have that on my gravestone.
