Wolves 3 - Sheff Utd 0 verdict thread

We were really good for half an hour at Blues, if we'd gone three or four up as we should have done then there wouldn't have been an issue. Ultimately if we're ever missing Neves then we're going to lose a bit of our usual control, no matter who replaces him. The man is ridiculous.

N’Diaye has been pretty good for us, but definitely had an off day against Blues.
I like him, I'd play him ahead of Saiss now even if he were fit as he gets into the box more and with teams largely parking the bus that's what we need. In that game though they just didn't work, it would concern me if one of Neves' two games was against one of the top 6.

I love Saiss but not sure I would change N'Diaye + Neves either at the minute. He'll have to wait a bit when he's back. Was worried about N'Diaye's presence and tackling etc for a full game, but he showed he can smash it in the Swansea game. And since he's played well. He looks after Neves and his passing is pretty good too so it's not like a massive change from Saiss

No way do I want to lose Neves for any game, but unlike last season do not think that we are doomed if our best player (with a nod to Jota for that title) is not there

N'Daiye & Saiss will do a decent job against most that the Championship can throw at us

N'Diaye works so well because when he's playing we end up in effectively a 3-3-4 formation, and a combination of a great defence and a midfield of Ruben Neves means we can push that many bodies forward in this league. Now that more and more teams are trying just to shut up shop against us and aim for a point, it suits us, but I don't think we can get away with it in the Premier League. I think Saiss is better suited to make the step up in this system, imo.

Then again there will be upgrades when we are there - so not sure that it's relevant to consider how existing players will do at that level

It really doesn't matter if Neves has to serve a suspension. It's two games. IE half of our lead even if we lost both and those behind won both. It's fucking done.

N'Diaye + Saiss is obviously a minor step below Neves + either, but I truly think that as a pair they're still better than half of what gets played in the Prem.

Without Neves we'd lose a bit of magic but I don't think we'd be significantly worse off. We're far too well coached.

Not that I think we should change things but I'd be mildly curious as to how much control we could exert if we played a 5-3-2/3-5-2 (depending on your perspective) with N'Diaye + Saiss + Neves. That's a top flight trio in every respect, not a doubt in my mind.

Unless you are playing them as one of your front 2 and even then I don't think it would suit any of them particularly well then you aren't playing Jota, Cav or Costa in either of those formations. 451 could be an alternative, but I think Jota would lose something from his game as an out and out left midfielder/ winger. Ultimately the formation we play now is the best suited to the players we have (except Afobe) and enables us to get more of our better players on the pitch at the same time.

Personally I think Jota and Cav could work in the sort of way we play but like I said I don't really think we should try it, I'm just curious how it would come off.

Both goals were superb, although when showing them to a couple of neutrals, it was Jota's that drew comments about Barcelona. A little OTT, and not a comparison I'd make personally, but I can understand their sentiments. Ruben's was a phenomenal strike after a great ball from Coady and nice work from Ivan, but Diogo's goal put that Dave Jones goal against Spurs that the club once made such a song and dance about on the front page of the club website to shame.

The ball from Coady and control from Cav were a big factor in Neves goal too :)

Kinda ruined by the fact that Cav got tackled though.

I jumped out my seat for the Neves strike, but sat back in amazement at Jota's.

I love both goals, but if push came to shove and we have to chose favourites, then I guess I prefer the thrill of jumping out of my seat with excitement when watching a match.
