Wolves 3 - Sheff Utd 0 verdict thread

Watched the game this morning - what a delight as the team (emphasis on team) just oozes class, talent and skill that I haven't seen in a Wolves side for close to nearly 50 years.

For me this is clearly the best team we've had since the early 70s (when the football, tactics, pitches etc were vastly different), despite having a few seasons in the Premier League in the last few years where in all honesty we always struggled to survive. You can't help but feel this team has something in it to be more than just survivors in the PL especially as Fosum will be making further investments at the end of the season, which I suspect will take our spending to another level.

Also kudos to Sheffield Utd's boss, Chris Wilder, for his generous praise of Wolves after the match with the grace of acknowledging his team were well beaten (and as others have said they are are a pretty good Championship side who will be close to the play-offs when the season concludes).

He isn't a CB though. He has a kind of hybrid sweeper-esque position. I'd be concerned about him playing in a 2 CB system currently, let alone at a higher level against some of the best players in the world.

He did alright against Aguero!! Ha. I know what you mean though mate, there are no guarantees at all. It will be interesting to see what Nuno does with the likes of him, Bennett, Doherty, Ruddy. How many of them will get an opportunity, or will he be ruthless.

Regarding England, he isone of the few English players playing in that specialist position I would say. Not that I think he is good enough ability wise or should be called up, but people like Cahill, Jones, Keane, Maguire all play as one of the outside CBs when they play in a three. Stones will be the one we use in Russia as he is the only one with the right skillset

He will be ruthless. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.

Offered a late ticket to this and so pleased to get to watch it. Agree with all the superlatives thrown st the team on this thread. The Mol was properly rocking last night and it was fun to be there.

Ruben Neves is the best player I've ever seen in a Wolves shirt. And he's 20 years old. He would walk into the top 6 teams the way he's playing.

Quite astonishing when you think that Man Utd started with Scott Mctominay yesterday, who probably would have been on the bench for us yesterday

Him at 20 and Jota at 21 is a scary prospect of just how good are they going to get ??

Total control and dòmination over a side that have been in the top 6 virtually all season. A masterful display defensively and some scintillating attacking play. The 2nd goal is arguably the best goal we've scored this season, and there have been plenty of good goals. It's clear we are the best team in the division, the quality we have is frightening. Our subs would start consistently for any other team in the Championship.

QPR next and we get to exact revenge for the 2nd week in a row.

Great day yesterday! Total control of the game. It's so good watching a Wolves side and not panicking or worrying for the whole 90 minutes. Yet again Ruddy has had nothing to do. 2 absolute world class goals, Neves strike was perfect and the touch and flicks for Jota's was superb. It's some goal of the season contest we will be having this year.

Neves MOTM for me. Just controlled the whole game from the middle.

Good to meet up with everyone pre-match and meet some new folk too. Dodgy choice on post match pub though DW, it was fucking rammed in there

Pubs in town after a late Friday or Saturday kick off are a nightmare as you get the mix of football fans and those out for the night. The usual pubs are generally set up for the night and some stop letting fans in

Was only joking mate. Got served pretty quick tbf. Did giggle at one guy next to me at the bar telling his mate to go find a table :icon_lol:

Aye, stuck for options at that time really. Getting served wasn't the issue, it was getting away from the bar and through the crowd.

When Ruben Neves leaves (which he will, eventually) then it will be to a proper European force. He'd already easily get in Liverpool or Chelsea's teams.

Just an all round outstanding performance. Two great goals, total control of the game, top class game management and all three subs looked good as well, the competition for places is incredible.

He'd get in Arsenal's midfield over Xhaka for me as well

Can't really add much to what has already been said, whole team was superb and a few moments of world class quality to kick off the weekend. I think the Neves/Alf partnership looks better balanced than Neves/Saiss and Alf should rightly keep his spot despite Saiss having a great season.

Our fringe options are quite ridiculous forgetting the header for a moment what about that tackle from Afobe!! Leo looked well up for it and I like MGW a bit higher up the pitch I wont worry about attacking injuries as much now given the depth of quality we have.

Really good match write up on the Sheffield UTD forum really bigging us up and no sour grapes l,which is nice to see.

Makes you wonder if we can keep him, and Jota in the summer.

You can see the big six all being interested, and you can see why the players would be tempted.

Hopefully Nuno and Mendes can work their magic and persuade them to stay.

We won’t sell Jota in the summer after making his move permanent in July.

Jota won't go anywhere in the summer, his signing isn't officially until then so no way we sell him immediately

I don’t think the big guns will come calling until next January. We’ll make an absolute killing on them when they go though

I’d imagine the earliest we’d get bids is in January as teams will probably want to see how they fare in the PL first.

I think Neves could easily be worth £50m+ if he has a good first half of the season in the PL.

This is my view too, the big clubs will wait and see how they do in the first few months of next season before sniffing round. Am I being naive in hoping that if we do ok and are mid table or a bit higher, we might be able to persuade Neves and Jota to stay a bit longer?
