Perfect example of why they dive was the Traore/Mendes challenge. If Mendes had dropped like a stone the ref would have blown for a push in the back, without doubt. He just didn't think quick enough is all.

Tough shit, perfectly fine challenge as Adama got his leg between Mendy's and pulled the ball back, Adama's 'barge' was caused at least in part by Mendy's move backwards towards Adama.

Yes he probably would, thing is Mendy didn't expect the challenge that came so didn't have time to think about diving. As Kenny as has said, all he had to do was hoof it out but he didn't and in turn Adama won the ball fair and square and we equalised.

City fans are a Weird mix of those who were fans when they were shit - and they’re generally great people and knowledgeable about football - and those who only became fans when they won the title - and I’m generalising obviously, but they are mostly twats.

Their forum is really reflective of that from my experience.

For what it’s worth, I really like city, it’s a long suffering club that’s got money and become unexpectedly good ( like us), with an excellent manager, a plan and some standout players. It’s a bit of a view into our (hopefully) future.

Atkinson's only real error was the lost advantage to Jonny. He was good on the cards, plenty of stuff that other refs would have been flashing yellows around and putting everyone on a knife edge, he just gave a foul and you move on. Fine with that.

If that's in the Bundesliga then Clueless McFuckwit in the booth can flag up the incident all he likes. But Atkinson goes across to look and then he can decide after he's had a second chance. Would have been quicker and I suspect still no penalty.

You may ask why did Clattenberg and Webb (two excellent referees take early retirement (since they are both younger than Atkinson)? Well, for the same reason why the PGMOL decided to add in these new interpretations (they are interpretations, NOT laws of the game). In a word, Mike Riley, the PGMOL Head. Like David Elleray before him (who championed Attwell), Riley likes to endorse new referees like the unfortunate (and out of his depth) David Coote (who has made some atrocious decisions at Wolves' expense). It does not thrill me to say this but unless and until the PGMOL gets its house in order, the Premier League will lose more excellent referees (who want more effective leadership) and VAR will not stop making colossal errors out of marginal decisions. The new interpretations were added as a "political" axt to enhance the acceptability of VAR to the footballing public. They were not added to improve the quality of the game but to create a more consistent PGMOL image as the body that knows something about refereeing at the highest level. The move has failed miserably, it has undermined the implementation of VAR, and it also risks advancing the retirement of some of the few good referees that we still have. What a shambles!

I mentioned this before but surprised how little it's been picked up. That's why the standing on the foot might seem like a penalty, but also why VAR had fair grounds to not give it.
