Wolves 3-2 Man City: Delicious Double Verdict

Trouble is that the ball is live from the rebound. Do you re-start with a goal kick no matter what then?

Yeah, whatever. Treat it as you would if Sterling had hit the post last night and tried sticking the rebound away himself.

No issue with that for me. Dead ball if the keeper saves it (it's always terribly unfair on the keeper when there's a goal like last night, Sterling ballsed it up, he shouldn't profit from his own error)

Pretty sure they contemplated bringing this in over the summer but don’t think it was well received

The way it works in hockey is that if the keeper parries it and the ball remains on the pitch (eg like Rui’s penalty saves) the ball becomes dead and it is hockey’s equivalent of a goal kick to the defending side. If the keeper parries it out of play (ie turns it round the post) it is hockey’s equivalent of a corner to the attacking side.

I like that idea too. Rui in that split second is elated having (again) saved a penalty, its very difficult to then recover composure to save the follow up and as DW says, Sterling benefits from his initial balls up.

Keep the ball out, job done, goal kick restarts play.

Yeah. I said to kel & lycan I felt robbed of the opportunity to talk about that game in the immediate aftermath and euphoria.

We just about got through the door in the Litten. Busy as hell and the loudest place in the world. Doubt we'd have even made it through the crowd to you, even if I had picked up the message in time. Gave up before we even got to the bar, what's the point when you can't hear a word anyone's saying.

Tried the Slug, a bit quieter (enough to make a difference anyway) in terms of noise, still busy but got to the bar. Barmaid spends 5+ minutes making cocktails. I wasn't even next after that, it was the geezer next to me, but some oaf leans over my shoulder and shouts "three Estrella". She only goes and serves him. Darl, if he's got to lean over me and I'm clearly not being served, what do you think the problem is here? Then he shouts "make that six".

See ya later, I'm going home.

Stupid really. Should have gone with my first plan of going to the Combermere which is tiny (and I suppose for some a bit out of the way, though it's near where we park) and where the directions to the toilet are "go past the tree", but you will get served quickly enough and you can have a chat. Live and learn.

Shame but what can you do.

Yeah, I got in the litten and assumed (hoped) they'd turn things off or down - how wrong I was. I suspect the wish was the father of the thought.
Found kel by almost falling over her. Knew it was a pointless exercise staying, as we all like the post game discussion. So the 3 of us swiftly finished off the drinks, gave up trying to hear each other and went home.

But the actions of the pubs in making their venues inhospitable for thousands of people looking for the opportunity to celebrate that game of football was poor. I mean all your clientele either watched the game in the pub, or were there, so what makes you think they want a shitty disco?

Would this game have been better without VAR, in my opinion yes. I have yet to see one game where VAR has enhanced the game - I have seen VAR impact on the outcome, I have seen it correct on field decisions and I have seen decisions overturned where it is not clear and obvious...but I am yet to witness one instance of VAR enhancing the match.

It should be binned.

It removes the emotion from football and I would rather take the rub of the green rather than purity - but it was supporter driven. The method is sound the application is dire. I saw an interview with Clough where he suggests we understand how difficult refereeing is and respect the decision. Good referees, respected referees are priceless .. rather tap it that.

I actually thought Atkinson refereed the game really well last night. Coote on VAR though...dear God.

They talked about the game on Soccer Saturday today and they focussed on Atkinson's face when he is forced to give the penalty. He clearly thought it was bollocks.

Atkinson's only real error was the lost advantage to Jonny. He was good on the cards, plenty of stuff that other refs would have been flashing yellows around and putting everyone on a knife edge, he just gave a foul and you move on. Fine with that.

If that's in the Bundesliga then Clueless McFuckwit in the booth can flag up the incident all he likes. But Atkinson goes across to look and then he can decide after he's had a second chance. Would have been quicker and I suspect still no penalty.

Totally correct. The PGMOL have got this so fucking wrong it is criminal.

I was annoyed about the lost advantage, damn annoyed, but Atkinson actually did it correctly as I understand, because he immediately gave a yellow. So he had to stop play for the caution I believe. Annoying though as we were clean in.

A game where we finished when it mattered (and goals may sometimes mask performances) but the self belief our boys have is infectious. They are never defeated and to a man an absolute credit to themselves. I thought City complacent and I don't quite get the criticism for Mendy and Otamendi, they are not bad defenders we worked our goals well. Get the impression that City are focused on winning the EC. Every so often you get an individual performance that needs engraving and that was Dendoncker. Don't rule out a result against Liverpool ...

Trouble is it was a penalty and Coady did encroach. We'd have took it.

Dermot Gallagher was saying on Prime last night that any step on the attackers foot is a pen. New law/directive this year I think.

You've never had to stop the game to caution someone. In fact I think the rule has changed even further in that you don't have to stop the game immediately to produce a red card.

As Doog said earlier, PGMOL's own stupid directives. Same as the handball nonsense (where Willy Boly can commit the exact same offence but the punishment is different depending which end of the pitch he's at).

How the fuck they think any of them benefit the game, I don't know. Just use the same rules as everyone else in the world, you weirdos.

Unsure what you're trying to say here. Our goals didn't mask any performance last night?

City were absolutely not complacent. They were full strength against us. Aguero started even though they want to ease him back after his injury. Made sense to take him off, and the de bruyne sub would make sense at the time, though risky.

City are most keen to ensure they finish in the top 2 now. The Ec to them is what the FA cup was to us last year.
Don't rule out a result against Liverpool ...
The only sensible thing you've said is this final sentence.

That's just for a red, he can play on and book him when the ball is next dead.

Exactly ! anything other than a goal restarts with a goal kick, possible grey area would be if the ball hits the woodwork then hits the goalkeeper and then into the net ??

Goal - same as if the keeper gets a hand to the ball but it still ends up in the net
