Wolves 3-2 Man City: Delicious Double Verdict

It’s one of them with the penalty if it’s the other way round we’d say fair enough. Was the decision not to award a penalty a clear and obvious error? Absolutely not very subjective call especially considering it took Coote 3mins to make that decision if it’s taking you that long you’re undecided.
As for encroachment it’s the right call, annoying yes but it’s correct.
I actually think Atkinson is one of the better referees in the league, got the red card right. Overturned decisions aren’t his fault, some minor decisions wrong but overall don’t think he was appalling.
His refereeing of the QF against MSN Utd last season was top notch.

But – like most people I’ve watched the second goal 4,568 times. Every time I wonder how it wasn’t given as a foul on Mendy. But who cares?
Don't think it was a foul tbh. Traore wanted the ball and went and got it. Mendy was soft in trying to usher it out, and had the opportunity to clear it. It was good play.

On the missiles thing, someone in front of me definitely threw a coin. There wouldn't have been a single missile, there would have been a few. Unacceptable behaviour imo.

I’m really hoping the hip flask was engraved with the owners name... if not, surely they would be caught on camera anyway?

Should be easy enough to get them, everyone is on cctv when they go through the turnstiles - easy enough to match that to the in ground cctv.

On the encroachment decision, you are right by the current laws the decision was correct. Problem is the current laws are a crock of shit. The law should be what I posted earlier.

There wasn't much difference between Adamas challenge on Mendy for our second and his challenge on Sterling for the FK near the end other than Sterling went down like a sack of shit

I'm convinced if Mendy had gone down he'd have got a free kick

That was some football game, thought we were positive throughout even before the sending off of Ederson. Really thought we were done after 0-2 from Sterling but once again we never give up a game.
Traore was a constant threat as usual, Jonny was good at left back, Moutinho and Neves great with the ball. Jota had a couple of chances where he could have scored. Wonder if it was because of busy schedule to take off De Bruyne, clearly a costly mistake.

Ooh, I still hate VAR so much. Destroys football if applied this way.

A number of people have referred to the outcomes of the penalty decision and the encroachment as conforming to the rules of the game. That isn't correct. As Dermot Gallagher pointed out, these interpretations were decided by the PGMOL, at a meeting convened after much criticism of VAR earlier in the season. That's right, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited. A limited company - interestingly not defined as not-for-profit - that elects its own members and is set up primarily to protect their interests. We know from Van Wolfie and that other bloke who used to post on here that they are a pretty incestuous bunch. So it's hardly surprising that their decisions are biased towards what is good for them rather than the good of the game.

Thanks for your considered response there fella, perhaps explain where you think I'm wrong rather than knocking a post with a one word criticism, nice.

LOL I concede it was not considered much. I like Neto and see he has got big potential, but maybe after my celebratory drinks i was a little protective and smart arsey.
So EP yeah It was a bit of a daft comment. :surrender:

Just looked again at it and I didn't notice you'd emboldened the Neto bit (it's not too obvious on Tapatalk). Just thought you'd put "wrong" to my whole post. So you're not as much as a bell end as I first thought ;) apologies.

There were more than a few things thrown at Sterling which is obviously bad. Celebrating so close to those Wolves fans is goading them but you can't react. Sterling is no worse than a lot of players who wind up fans.

The atmosphere at games tainted by VAR is getting increasingly poisonous.

On another note there were a bunch of City (insert definition here) running round the ring road attacking wolves fans.

LOL no worries

Would this game have been better without VAR, in my opinion yes. I have yet to see one game where VAR has enhanced the game - I have seen VAR impact on the outcome, I have seen it correct on field decisions and I have seen decisions overturned where it is not clear and obvious...but I am yet to witness one instance of VAR enhancing the match.

It should be binned.

I am still absolutely knackered and I sound like Lemmy after a fifth bottle of Jack Daniels. But I am so fucking happy today.

One of the truly great Molineux nights. A privilege and an honour to have been there.

Dan's right though - the pubs after the match were a joke!

Would it work if all penalties are treated the same as a penalty shoot out ? You either score or miss, then encroachment becomes history !

No issue with that for me. Dead ball if the keeper saves it (it's always terribly unfair on the keeper when there's a goal like last night, Sterling ballsed it up, he shouldn't profit from his own error)

Never thought of that. Not a bad idea is it

That's what they do in hockey apparently.

I quite like the drama after a saved pen though

Trouble is that the ball is live from the rebound. Do you re-start with a goal kick no matter what then?
