Wolves 3-1 Burton - Verdict Thread

Well that was as comfortable win as any this season - the score line flattered Burton, who once it became 3-1 seem to play to minimise the damage. I believe we're really going to hammer one of the teams in our 8 remaining games.

Just a few random thoughts . . .

Neves is just simply wonderful - his passing is sublime. I don't think we've ever seen such a midfield player pull on the Old Gold shirt to play like he does. Next season I'm sure he'll go another level in the Premier League. Who knows if we can hold onto him, but given Fosun's ambition for the club you just never know.

Didn't miss Jota at all; and Costa finally seems to be finding the form he displayed last season.

A bit harsh on Ruddy for Burton's goal given it seemed to go through a number of legs (and I'm sure a very slight deflection as well).

Afobe seems to a good choice to play if teams "park the bus". I believe we'll sign him in the off-season as I'm sure, between seasons, Nuno will be able raise his game and get him to fit better into the team's style. I also think he'll be the squad option not first choice. Fosun's ambition in the coming off season will be raised to a new level.

After last week's bad loss at Villa the club has responded so well (albeit against 2 teams we'd be expected to beat) and doing it without too much fuss or drama. With both Villa and Fulham dropping point this weekend, promotion is now pretty well assured now (12 pts from 8 games to be mathematically certain).

I just want the team to finish up as champions.

This is certainly a great time to be a Wolves fan !

Guys, first and foremost, I'd like to thank everyone who showed up today, you all made sure out day here was amazing. We're looking forward for our return!

Loved Molineux and the game was superb! Neves was outstanding, again. Two marvellous finishes from Costa and Afobe to spice things up.
Glad you enjoyed it! Just a shame it was so cold and the game was such a walk in the park. Really disappointed with Burton yesterday, they barely turned up.

Did anyone hear Paul Merson talking about us and Neves in particular? Really bigging us up. No surprise really I've watched "the pass" countless times now and it's just bonkers.

From what I have seen Jota will be coming back to the bench for a while Cav, Afobe and Costa combining was as effective as any partnership we have used this season really want to see more of that.

How was Afobe's all round game? Did he do more in linking play than on Tuesday night?

A lot better than the first half on Tuesday. Was making himself available, linking up well and making smart runs into space. His hold up play was improved as well.

Yes he played a couple of round the corner back to goal passes which were very good. His first touch means he's not going to link play as well as Bonatini did before Xmas, but neither did Bonatini make the kind of runs Afobe did for his first.

Yes, just as TT says, he dropped deep and played a few good passes (one to put Costa in was really good), but he doesn't have Leo's first touch so it's always that bit slower.

Thank you. I'm not sure if the nerves of starting for the first time got to him on Tuesday as he was dreadful in the first half.

He wasn't that bad in the first half on Tuesday at all. I watched it back on WolvesTV and he was fine.

Afobe was excellent yesterday, such a handfull for the Burton defenders, took both his goals well and was unlucky not to get his hat-trick.

Burton's defence was custom made for him though - high line and dodgy offside trap

He really was, it was 1/10 stuff. Jake Cassidy without the workrate.

Good yesterday though.

He was dreadul on Tuesday for 45 mins. His workrate and desire was appalling. Thankfully he sorted himself out from the word go in the 2nd and carried into yesterday

Think their goal was definitely another that isn't necessarily Ruddy's fault but I'd expect a better keeper to save. I agree Ruddy really isn't a massive upgrade on Ikeme and I'd like to see Norris given a run. Won't happen though.

Really enjoyed Wolves performance yesterday. Glad to see Costa getting back to his best and Neves is clearly playing for fun right now. Missed their goal but having seen the replays I think it's harsh blaming Ruddy.

Kudos to Luke Varney for trying to rile Wily Boly, he's a very brave man.

It was good to meet and put faces to names yesterday, even a worse for wear Trips ;)

By the way wtf is this from Nigel Clough?

"It gives Joe Sbarra another 45 minutes under his belt at 19 years old (after he replaced Marvin Sordell at half-time).

"And the best thing about that was he received his first booking, which we asked him to do.

"That's part of growing up and playing in men's football, sometimes you're going to have to kick the opposition.

"He did that and he received a yellow card, so that's another little step for him along the way of becoming a professional footballer."

Why are you sending a young kid out to kick people? And why are you taking pride in it?

I thought it was odd too. Like getting booked us some kind of rite od passage. Weird.

Maybe hes being groomed for a move to Cardiff?

The kid did presentation night for our football club in June, he's about 5ft 5 and 8 stone, he's also an Albion fan. He didn't mean to foul Neves either, he was just too quick for him, so he got a yellow by accident rather than design.
