Wolves 3-1 Burton - Verdict Thread

Easy. Promoted now. Nobody catching us.

Yeah. Had to head straight home after the game as Cass was absolutely froze and didn't fancy Boho.

We controlled a game we should be controlling and there was some superb play in what were very testing conditions. Two good goals from Afobe and Costa's was pretty special too. Boly is immense. Neves is a fucking God.

Fulham dropping points and Villa losing to Noblot. Done and dusted.

Good game, could have done with a bit more excitement to be honest - might have got the blood moving a bit more. Poor kids were proper freezing.

Always thought Clough was a half decent manager, but he must be a Saunders-esque moron to set up with a high line and offside trap against a front 3 of Costa - Afobe - Cav.

Very comfortable performance. Burton had one small spell of pressure in the first half where we struggled to clear it for 60 seconds, but other than that it was a training exercise once the 3rd went in and Burton just stopped trying. Though I thought they should have had a penalty for the push on Flanagan. If that was one of our players we'd have been screaming for it. Definitely one we got away with.

Positives:

Neves was easily the MOTM today. Absolutely superb with his passing and through balls today.

Cav had a quiet start but grew into the game and really made us tick up front. His roaming movement and forward runs pull defences all over the place.

Costa was lively throughout, albeit still with a tendency to be over-elaborate and try and beat more players than he needs to. Including the keeper for his one-on-one - Just shoot FFS!!

Really pleased for Afobe. His link play and all-round game isn't quite as good as Leo, as he tends to stay quite narrow without really moving into the channels enough, but I know who I'd rather have on the end of chances and he's proved that again today. To be fair to him whenever he came deep today the Burton CBs followed him and stuck to him like glue, but he still did well in the second half with his first touch and passing. The starting striker role is deservedly his for the rest of the season now.

Negatives:

Ruddy - I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the game because I didn't know what sort of view he had of Dyer's shot. But after seeing it again from behind the goal he probably should do better. Maybe he didn't see it until late as it came through a players legs but it still goes down as another mistake and his reactions were a little slow.

Douglas - He didn't have much defending to do today, but apart from the final 10 mins he was anonymous going forward. He never overlaps any more and rarely shows any desire to get into the final third and link play like Doc does. It's a shame Vinagre wasn't on the bench because he could have had a run out for the last 15-20 mins. Douglas knows he has no-one to replace him and has become complacent. Which on the flipside gives all the more credit to Doherty as he is in the same situation.

So, so, so easy. Almost too easy, we definitely shouldn't have let them score but very lucky goal. Pure filth from the majority of our players, although didn't quite get my prediction right.

Shoutout to Coady, his assist for Costa was fantastic. We could've score many more, it was a joy to watch, especially with the crowd shouting "shoooot" to every player at one point.

Dyers shot came through 3 separate pairs of legs. If there wasn't a deflection, he'd have really struggled to see the ball.

Think we're being a bit quick to look for faults with him atm.

It was a shot from outside the box, that took 2 or 3 deflections, but ultimately it went through his legs. You can find excuses, but as with a number of goals recently his reactions aren't quick enough

Villa losing to Bolton this is it chaps raise a glass tonight and enjoy we going up!!!

Keeping those out ius pure luck. You can't see out and you can't predict it. All of a sudden the ball is there. If you're lucky your legs are closed and out deflects. If you're unlucky you're fucked and its in!

That's one for the fnnr fnnr thread

Can I have a little chuckle at the irony of a misfiring former wolves striker scoring the winning goal against villa a week after they had allegedly completely blown open the title race?

Sorry MIND THE GAP

Bruce - “We want an investigation into how 2 ex-Wolves players featured in the Bolton team, including the goal scorer. This must contravene EFL guidelines. Bleat. Bleat”

How did Bolton lure all that snow, I wonder?

Couple of em on villatalk saying the ref was bribed,no doubt by mendes or fosun

So obviously we can claim the same last week then. After 3 decisions went against us.

Just seen the highlights on 5. Some of our passing looked sublime. Coady and Neves especially playing some beautiful stuff. Anyone else think Neves reminds them of the Arsenal era Fabregas?

The 2 passes by neves to Afobe and Costa were of the highest quality that belongs on the highest stage this summer.

I need a gif of that pass to Costa. Can't download the Sky highlights though. Will have to wait for the Youtube vid.

Great to hear MGW's name being sung too. Really hope he gets a chance to start this season.

Saw some in the match thread criticising Ruddy for the goal. Its come past 5+ players. Very difficult for me to hold that against him.
