Wolves 2 Villa 1: The Verdict thread

As others have said, should have been more comfy but I'll take 2-1 all day. Really good performance overall. Neto did really well to rob the ball and hold off a determined challenge from the defender, very Jota-esque, yes he made the wrong decision in the end but he's 19, had little game time and is desperate to make an impression, in the same position, Jota, Cutrone and Raul would have done exactly the same. People need to get off his back and support the lad the same way they do Cutrone.
I love Jota and the way he beats 2 or 3 players but he really needs to learn when to do it and when to keep it simple, but don't forget he is still young

McGinn played, not that you’d have noticed him.

Clearly I need to tone down the sarcasm. He’s played some good football this season but McGinn was close to anonymous today, agreed. Villa fans better hope Watford don’t get their act together in a hurry because they were complete rubbish in all fairness. As easy an opponent as we’ve faced for a fair while

I was pleased over the last week with the creativity. Far far more creation and attacking intent back up by solid defence. I thought yesterday was easily Dendonkers best game as a centre back, Adama had them on toast and Neves was a real influence. Moutinho is going to be very hard if not impossible to replace.

For Villa, Mings proved he is still a cunt, McGinn did the square root of fuck all, Wesley is a Brazilian international! Fuck me! Sooner have bonatini!

I

For Villa, Mings proved he is still a cunt,

At the time I thought he was lucky not to get a red. Zero attempt to play the ball and went in to take out Adama. On watching it back on MOTD2 last night, I stand by that and then he made it worse by smirking like a small child to his mates. Wasn't doing that a few seconds later mind...

It was borderline red, and that's not because I don't like the face-stamping Mings. He's been booked for a standard cynical wipe-out, but it was more than that - was reckless, the speed and force he hit Adama with. If standing legs, etc, etc.

Also thought Donk was brilliant yesterday. I really like him on the right of that back three. Moutinho MotM as has been covered because he seemed to be absolutely everywhere.

Yesterday was another step to being back to our best, Moutinho, Adama, Neves and Donk the picks for me. Managed the match really well and created a hell of a lot.
Not concerned we’re not putting away all our chances at least we’re getting them.
Team starting to pick itself again and we’re 8th and almost into the next round of Europe with barely getting out of 2nd gear.
As for Villa if Grealish is that pivotal that they perform so badly when he’s not in the side they’ve got some serious issues.
Reality is Smith got his tactics woefully wrong playing to wingers who don’t track back. Regularly Targett or Taylor we’re one on one with Traore.

Nice to meet those that I did meet.
Called it in the Pub they could not live with us.
That's a poor Villa team and one I predicted for relegation start of the season. I wont be far off.

Also called, Europa Cup Quarter Final, 6th in the League, and a FA Cup final

I think out of everything he did yesterday my favourite part of Traore’s game was his run in behind to get the free kick for Neves’ goal. There was also one run when Jota messed up a simple pass to him, both of which are something he doesn’t usually do much of and it was great to see him improving his overall game.

It was a performance as dominant as anything we did in our Championship season. I thought Neves was man of the match as his passing range and work in the midfield was outstanding. Coady's best game for us this season too. It's great to watch us at the top table performing like this and the noise in the ground was brilliant, a great atmosphere.

Donck MOTM for me, majestic. Gives us another dimension at RCH (to say he has no future in midfield as stated elsewhere is just plain bizarre though).

Moutinho a close second.

Wesley Heskey is a shamefully poor footballer.

Wesley Heskey is a shamefully poor footballer.

An insult to Heskey.

The lad has elbow and isn't afraid to use it and that is pretty much his game.

1st half he was stuck on Coady but got nothing (probably Coady's best game against a target man forward) and then the 2nd he moved to Donck and got.....nothing.

How much did he cost Villa?

About £20m I think.

Fucking pony.

We started like a house on fire, and were good throughout the game I thought. Every player in the staring 11 did really well. Saiss got a bit handy with people a few times though, and his first booking came early in the game, making me nervous whenever villa went down that side.

Jonny was great, Doherty had another super match. Donck was very different to Bennett at the back (I'm a big Bennett fan) and it was good to see his variety, and style.
Neves was fucking superb again - that's the fella I remember!
Adama was great for 20 mins, then quiet (he went back to standing and watching) then when he moved, created Villa so many problems.

Scratching my head at some of the Jota/Raul criticism. Looks to me that 85% of their work is good, just the little things aren't quite coming off for them.

Cutrone could have been introduced a bit earlier imo - felt his chasing down style would've caused villa problems.

Agreed, remain of the opinion that should've been a red. However, having seen the Taylor "handball", I now accept it wasn't a penalty, yet in the ground, and after, I was convinced, and incensed it hadn't been given.

Ref for me was off. Thought he had a pretty good first half. 2nd half was poor though.
Disliked his allowing Villa to charge into our players when they were jumping for a header - repeatedly resulting in players landing heavily. That's a cunts trick. Moutinho & Neves seemed to have a couple of tangles that frustrated them too.

Also, I usually have high regard for Dean Smith, but was confused by picking Steer, knowing there was a good chance he wouldn't be able to complete the match. That message to the third choice keeper is that Smith doesn't trust him. Very odd.

I now accept it wasn't a penalty, .

Aye. The Villa claim for a penalty was rightly turned down as well. The one on Doc is one that some refs would give but no complaints it wasn't

The tackle by Neves on the edge of our box in the lead up to the second goal... quality.

Yes jinks, superb tackle. A great thing about Neves is his ability to head the ball, and make such tackles.

Incidentally, thanks to the prick to my left (he who I mentioned the other day as always getting up around 25 minutes in, I suspect for a shit as this is what he declared once to his mate a few rows back) who decided to leave on 92 minutes - with the ball in a dangerous area, wasn't like nothing was going on - so I had an obscured view of their goal. Why can't you wait another 90 seconds like a normal person, you beardy Martin Adams lookalike fuck? It's 3.45 on a Sunday, what exactly is so important that you have to leave NOW?

I hope he stood on a plug this morning.

Too many of those fucking bellends in attendance yesterday. Particularly one bloke who got up at least 4 times to go down the stairs. Just fuck the fuck off.
