Wolves 2 Villa 1: The Verdict thread

Fabulous performance and well worth the win. For me McGinn is an excellent championship player who has just been overrated by Villa fans. He'll do OK in the prem but Neves and Moutinho are different level.

How many times are we going to say “should/could have been 4-5”. The lads up top need to start showing more cutting edge.

.

Our xG was just over two. So really, we were about right with our finishing. If anything we scored with a couple of the harder efforts (and I thought Neto should have played to Cutrone, but he was never going to).

A Neto pass to Cutrone to bang one in and jump into the South Bank would have topped the day off!

Cutrone played really well when he came on, Neto just seems to be very immature.

A bit more experience and he does pass. I totally get why he didn't though, he had just put 2 Villa players on their arse and it would have been a stunning goal. He will have it quietly pointed out to him tomorrow (and probably very loudly by Cutrone in the dressing room)

Ruben Neves has a cock like a fucking truncheon.

That is all. Xoxox

That's the point isn't it? We left some goals on the pitch and yet we still got the win.

We have been saying "someone is due for a right kicking" for about five years...

I like both. Cutrone I think really isn't far away and just needs a bit of luck. Neto has lots of enthusiasm, definitely suits him when there is space behind but agreed makes some poor decisions.

To be fair, when I was 19 I made some atrocious decisions too.

Hopefully Nuno told him that the team is more important.

Once you've set a few up and shown your worth you're entitled to have a go. Until then, if someone is in a better position - pass the fucking thing

At least it didn't cost us any points, although I would wager Cutrone let him know about it.

hate to be negative in a win, but the forwards need a serious kick up the backside. the jota/raul magic of last year just doesn't exist this season, and as mentioned all of them had some thoroughly selfish moments. not a mystery why we draw so many despite generally being solid out the back.

came out and absolutely bossed the first half (for once!), didn't concede first (for once!). traore showing so much improvement. moutinho motm, absolutely immense. backline/midfield, neves free kick was great. saiss yellow card in under 10 minutes, not great. started to let them take control for a few minutes at the end but thankfully started to work out of it instead of just sitting back like normal.

whoever said, "good performance with room for improvement" nailed it on the head.

How many games/times have Jota and Raul been up top this year together? Feel like it's been pretty broken up by injuries in terms of a consistent period of them starting?

Christ, we needed that win, especially being a Wolves fan living in Brum. One sour note, do sky fucking sports realise that there are other teams in the Prem besides Liverpool and fucking Man city.

But our xG would have been better if the players made better decisions. Passing to a team mate in a better position, not running into a crowd of players, shooting with the goal gaping rather than passing etc.

We really shouldn’t have been in a position where we were under pressure when our general play was so good today and the positions we got ourselves in

We weren't under pressure at all for me. It was as comfortable as your favourite pair of old shoes.

Reminded me of one of our games in the championship winning season, always comfortable and usually with the thought we could / should have scored more.

I'll start to worry when we make regular defensive errors every week and fail to create anything.

We're not doing either of these things, so I cant really understand the pessimism about them. Yes, we should have scored more than 4 goals in the last 3 games but we look good, we're playing well, we're cutting teams open and we're getting good results.

Like last season, I struggle to get worried when I watch us play because we have some superb footballers and look comfortable with the ball. These are good times, and we can still improve.

Finishing/final ball would nevertheless appear to be our weakest point on that showing. If you were seeing us for the first time, you'd probably judge us "too good to be relegated, not ruthless enough for top 6".
