Wolves 2 Villa 1: The Verdict thread

I have a lot of time for Anthony Taylor normally but he was uncharacteristically poor yesterday. We can't afford for him to turn shit, he's one of the few good ones we've got.

Scratching my head at some of the Jota/Raul criticism. Looks to me that 85% of their work is good, just the little things aren't quite coming off for them.
For me, yesterday, they weren't anywhere near their best - Jiminez snatching at chances, and Jota just a tad headless.

At least Kavanagh didn't have anything to fuck us over for on VAR.

I thought the ref was fucking awful yesterday to be honest.
Think he tried so hard to prove he wasnt a "homer" that he decided to give them a foul for every little niggle.
Worst one was when Joao stole the ball from behind with the faintest of touches and Trezeguet (i think) went down like a
game of Jenga.
Grealish would have had spent 80 minutes on the floor yesterday and won most of the decisions.
Like Jinky above, i thought he would class the Neves tackle as a foul.

Time after time he fell for the slow down quickly, wait to feel the hand on the back and fall over routine. Smith clearly trains them to do it as they were all at it.

That's how they got the free kick for the winner at Villa Park. Joke decision.

I thought both Moutinho and Neves were superb yesterday. It was a footballing masterclass from Moutinho. He was my MOTM.

Donck had a great game and I am delighted to see us look so solid at the back without Boly (not that Villa posed all that much of a threat). Donck's positioning was brilliant and he got a couple of great interceptions in. Saiss continued his great form too, I have been impressed every time I've seen him this season whether in defence or midfield.

I am not sure why there is an Adama debate raging on again - he won the free kick for the first goal, assisted the second goal, hit the bar and generally caused chaos in the Villa defence. Yes, he doesn't always make the right choice but he is clearly one of our main attacking threats every time he plays. I'm a big fan of his.

Thought it was interesting to watch Adama for the assist - once he has skinned Luiz, he has space and time to run and look up (a number of times), and pick out Raul - some of the tighter situations, he still doesn't seem to instinctively know how to deliver into a dangerous area without missing the first man - if he could develop this, he will be awesome. Even so, a vast, vast improvement on the player we signed.

Just to bring this back up from the now legendary Luke Hatfield omnishambles of an article.

Is there a team outside of the top two John McGinn wouldn't get into?

Er yes, most of them.

The fact Coady got the better of Wesley aerially and physically tells you everything you need to know about Wesley ability. Particularly when that his strongest trait.

He reminded me of Carl Cort when his legs had totally gone.

(I quite liked Big Carl in general, probably not a tricky right winger though)

I'm not sure either, since there isn't.

All of the forwards were making strange decisions yesterday. I don't believe anyone's pointed out Traore as committing terrible sins the others haven't, just saying in general their interplay isn't what it should be atm. Traore had a great game, I don't think there's been a single post suggesting otherwise.

That time he didn't slide Doc in though... Made me furious at the time! He's definitely coming along though.

Sorry there was a debate about him on a different thread which I read just before posting. I don't always remember which thread I am looking at when using tapatalk!

You are quite correct in that nobody has suggested he didn't play well yesterday. It's just me posting my usual shite :)

Yep not a moan, but you are correct with this statement, the ease with which we scored that 2nd goal, a bit more composure from Adama and we could have scored that same goal 2 or 3 times in the first half.

Raul's movement to create that space to receive that pass from Adama was excellent, he didn't have anywhere near the same movement on the occasions he needed to in the first half, also when AT was crossing in the first half it was mostly tight on the by line, much more difficult to pick someone out from there.

His passes are too intelligent for the rest of our players, eh. :D

Strange take. But ok.

To clarify if you beat a man by using pace and power then it's a lot more difficult to pick a team mate out rather than when you you have 40 yards of empty space to run in like when AT brushed off Luiz.
