The most Annoying thing with the Jota incident is it was a straight foot race from the half way line. If there was one player in their team who I’d want it to be with it would be Cook. A combination of some poor touches and not getting across him/away from him stopped him being through 1 v 1.

I don’t think you can tell a performance from highlights mate. For the first 30 minutes of the second half, Costa looked like Darren Ferguson and Steve Coricas lovechikd - his control was awful, he was weak, lost the ball whenever it went near him, his passing was terrible, he badly muffed the one on one that MGW put him through for, and he wasn’t remotely interested in challenging for a header. I genuinely thought Nuno was going to sub him.

The last fifteen minutes though, he had a good shot and did well in the buildup, had the one two with cav (which to be fair, Danny Batth would have managed, but was good nonetheless) and there was something else which slips my mind. He still was the worst player we had, but those three things moved him out of Ali dia territory.

If they were the only three things in the highlights though, you’d think he did ok.

I was at the game as well mate, didn't feel Costa was as bad as some do and the highlights provided me some nice confirmation bias

I'm not saying he was excellent, but he had good moments and got his 2nd assist in 2 games.

Haha, can’t beat confirmation bias!

It is an odd one, as he played well in parts this season, and didn’t achieve anything - he’s been pretty awful the last couple of games and got two assists... footballs a weird place sometimes!

i think Costa is definitely short on confidence and could do with a goal to boost him, just like happened with Jota. on a good roll at present but must expect another blip or two before the end of the season. against the better footballing team Neves and Moutinho are a good pair, but think against the more physical ones Saiss needs to come in.

I couldn't believe the abuse Costa was getting from those around me in the stadium yesterday. His mistakes are being far too exaggerated at the moment. Seems it's his turn to be the scapegoat, which is just nonsense. Sure he's not as electrifying as we know he can be, and he made some poor decisions yesterday, but he was still superb in possession, tidy on the ball and got his all important return ball to Cav just right - so much so that it even allowed Cav a heavy first touch!

Agree with that, he was fantastic - and I love how flexible he is, playing the first load of games as a centre forward, and now playing as a right sided forward to allow MGW to play false nine - he’s a fantastic option for us, and always works his backside off too.

Yep. Can’t be pleasing everyone. There’s plenty itching for a scapegoat. There’s a fella by me who wanted Nuno out a couple of weeks ago who’s now turned his focus to Costa.

Rightly or wrongly paying customers are allowed a view and rightly so. Costa has been sub standard more often than not this season.
My worry with him is he looks so down in the dumps.
Every time he fucks up you can hear the "paying customers" muttering, how this affects him I wouldn't be able to imagine it certainly wouldn't help.
The SB singing his name trying to lift him is much more positive.
If he returns to his best he's a real assett if he doesn't he will be out of the first team squad and probably off.

When he missed that glorious chance to score, I would have took him off.

I enjoyed the game yesterday which was played in difficult conditions. Raul was very very good but I have to give my MOTM to Ryan Bennett he was immense and those interceptions he repeatedly made were a thing of beauty.
Overall perfomance was fine against a team that have caused plenty problems for others though their form has waned.

Shout out to the poor souls in the temp stand and the front of the North Bank (that must have been unpleasant)

It was horrific in the temporary stand! Have to agree on Bennett really. He just continues to perform so far above what has been expected of him

Don't understand why so many call for Bennet to be upgraded, he's our most consistant defender, no he can't play the ball out very well but I'm happy to have one old fashioned 'stopper' in our back 3, plenty of skill on the ball with Boly and Coady, with Dendoncker in reserve. Bennet is also good at getting away with the defenders dark arts....thats dirty cheating to you and me
