Wolves 1-2 Spurs: Verdict Thread

That's a hell of a reach, that there blog.

that blog is the biggest load of bollocks i have ever read, what is the guy on?

I've been saying for some time now that there are some offences that deserve more than a yellow card but less than a red card.

Introduce an Orange card that registers as a yellow card but also means you go in a 'sin bin' for 10 minutes. Deliberate and cynical fouls could be legislated to fall into this category.

They just need to change the rules. Slide tackles with no attempt to play the ball = Red or if not sure then Sinbin. Grabbing a shirt can just be yellow as it’s not dangerous. Would not be surprised for this rule change end of season. Tactical fouling seems to be getting more hate and attention in general than it used to.

Looking at the fouls on Adama, Dier and (much as I dislike him) Kane are both yellow for me. The other one? No attempt to play the ball at all. High, Adama is going at full speed. For me, that one is a red

Veertonghen and Dier fouls are both straight reds. Xhaka got sent off for Arsenal for exactly the same hack type tackle and Vertonghen's tackle is worse.

Who was it who actually got sent off against us in the Championship a couple of years back for similar? I think it was Costa (in the season before we were promoted) who was long gone, ball ahead of him and racing onto it, some... Bournemouth(?) player literally just kicked him and deservedly got the straight red for it, if I remember correctly?

It's being noticed anyway -

Traore is being targeted.

Jan Vertonghen had the last laugh for Tottenham but Adama Traore certainly didn't deserve to find himself on the losing side at Molineux. Spurs struggled to deal with his dribbling all afternoon and he was on the receiving end of some increasingly robust attention.

Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Harry Kane were all booked for fouls on Traore during 14 second-half minutes. That beats the record set by Brighton the previous weekend when Lewis Dunk, Dan Burn and Dale Stephens were booked in the space of 17 minutes.

Twenty-four players have been yellow carded for fouls on Traore this season in all competitions. In the Premier League, no player has been fouled more in the final third.

These are not insignificant infringements either but lunges on a player often running at speed. Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is clearly concerned about what is happening.

"I think the referees know and realise they should punish the tackles," Nuno said afterwards. "It's tough to defend and opponents do what they have to do. Fouls over and over again, you should not allow them. They have to act immediately to prevent injury."

Hopefully now it's been highlighted by the mainstream press, it will make it more difficult for teams to get away with repeatedly fouling him.

This is either lack of tactical work or last minutes concentration. Same person to blame on both situations.

But since this was on the early minutes of another match I guess conclusions are easy.

We also have mid match for those wondering

Perhaps we should get Marco Silva in to sort out the defence?

Sometimes it costs points. Sometimes it doesn't.
