Wolves 1-1 Aston Villa: Verdict Thread

BTW, regards Sa brain farts and the lack of them… why didn’t he catch that ball in the 2nd half and just let it bounce out for a corner? Looked farcical to me, but might have been more awkward than it seemed to me for those with a better view.

Was an awkward one tbf. Bounced a lot higher than you'd think and from his starting position he was best off just leaving it.

Sa was good today.

It was farcical. He could have made the decision 3 seconds later and still gone and caught it. Didn’t he also drop one near the edge of the area in the first half under zero pressure? Didn’t matter on this occasion but were stil bizarre.

Agree, that bounce was crazy.

He had plenty of time to just step out and catch it really as it was in the air for ages. Decided to leave it for the second bounce and got caught out by the spin.

Watching from the side you could see how the ball was spinning and it was not an easy take for Sa. He did the right thing rather than risk spilling it.

The only thing I can say about that is that I enjoyed my pre-match pint and after match pint in the Combermere Arms. The game itself was poor quality, slow and two teams seemingly frightened to lose to one another. If either had stepped up their effort and tempo by 5% they would have won. Distinctly unimpressed and I guess this is how GON will set us up now.

I'm not going to say anything about the ref as we just get used to ineptitude. The fact he looked at his watch, was about to blow for full time and then decided to let Villa have one more effort, which hit the post, only demonstrated his utter incompetence.

Thought Villa were shit and there for the taking and their fans probably thought the same in reverse. The kind of game you are just glad the weather is nice so you at least can have a warm glow about something.

Neto, our only spark, wasn't utilised enough and Hwang just keeps turning up to score. Disappointed they got a leveler straight away but we can't really grumble that they did. Sa pulled off a couple of brilliant saves, Dawson was immense, Semedo was unlucky to get yellow, Lemina ditto x 2 and I enjoyed Traore's appearance. Other than that I have serious concerns re: Kilman, Cunha & Silva. Kilman is a shadow of his former self and nowhere near captain material, Cunha looks lost but clearly obeying instructions and Silva a total waste of time out on the flank.

Not for popular consumption.

Hwang is instinctive. However when he has time to think he's a clusterfuck.

Totally agree. His first touch is abysmal. Ball always seems to leap a foot or two from him.

Not sure why everyone is slating the ref, I thought he got most things right, for a relative rookie in a game where both sets of players made things difficult, I thought he had a decent match.

Ref booked Lemina for the shirt pull, fair enough those are the regs. But then ignored the exact same thing 5 mins later.

We have McGinn holding, pulling and blocking Dawson at the first half corners. Ref is looking at it. He has a quick word with McGinn and then later with Dawson. Now why was Dawson judged to be at fault as all he was doing was looking to move into space? It was weak refereeing.

Then we have the incident re: full time where he was going to blow and allowed them to attack.

We have a ridiculous yellow for Semedo. We have a ridiculous yellow for Lemina. We have a ridiculous yellow for Dawson.

There were all kinds of niggly fouls he allowed Villa to get away with and then blew when one of our players committed exactly the same offence.

Jones is the type of ref who won't make major decisions but loves to pick out the small stuff. He was poor.... and I don't like the way he runs. Another piss poor twat of a ref.

This gets said a lot but I honestly don't see it.

Mcginn v Dawson, he called it right, the ball wasn't in play, and both players were at fault. I've always said I'd prefer it if the the ref let the ball come in and give a penalty/free kick depending whose at fault, how long would it take for grappling to stop?

How long did actually play, its a minimum of 12 mins then we had the sending off etc, a further min or 2 wouldn't be extreme.

Can't remember all the bookings but don't think I thought they were harsh at the time.

Think blaming the ref is just fan bias, if I look at their forums, bet some are saying the same. The same as man city fans blamed the ref for last week.

Villa fans will rightly say the ref was poor and that won’t prove a point other than he was bad for both teams, which he was. He was a sht ref and our league is full of sht refs, something we’re basically resigned to.

Watching it back on MOTD2:

- First Lemina one isn't even a foul, got the ball
- Not enough for a pen on Neto for me
- They didn't show the Luiz/Hwang incident properly so still no real idea what happened or if there was a case for a red
- Definite pen for them and amazed it wasn't overturned, what the hell was Doherty thinking
