Wolves 0-2 Brentford: Verdict Thread

I wonder how much of yesterday was that the team expected to win. We have a history of raising our game against the bigger sides but then being woeful against team we have a better chance of beating.

Don't think it's that. Until the sending off they are the first side who tried to shut down the midfield preventing us from having the ball. It worked and we reverted to the tried, trusted and usually failed 2020/1 season policy of give it to Adama and hope for the best.

Brentford were very canny and make sure they only went down when play had already been stopped.
Mostly yes. But how about when their CB went down in their area in the second half whilst we had the ball out wide? The ref immediately stopped the game, it wasn't a head injury.

Replays showed their was absolutely no contact too, he just cheated.

True enough, the solution last time was 352.

We could probably play that with Hwang in the Jota role and Dendoncker for Trincao.

Another thing we do that winds me up. Player stays down whilst we were in possession with a CB on the halfway line (hardly an attacking position . We then don’t kick the ball out and the proceed to lose it with only 10 men. We fucking kick it out for the opposition! Either the player on the floor gets up because he’s feigning injury or we kick it out. Instead Neves gets up and can hardly walk and we try and pass him the ball and lose it. Talk to each other FFS! Have some discussion in training, have a signal or a plan!
I agree. Can I add that our set pieces are woeful and are at present an opportunity for the opposition to attack rather than us score. Again yesterday they stank . It’s a complete waste of an opportunity to deliver garbage into the box as we have done in pretty much every game .
Another direct set piece 5 yards of the bar. Honestly let Kilman take them.

No issues with the corners, it wasn’t really an opportunity for us from direct ones as they had 3 giants at CB and Toney, plus Norgaard and Janelt are big enough.

Add to that Rauls non foul when he went ballistic to show how the Brentford player dived. For all the shit that goes on players are no mugs and know when they have been genuinely cheated and Rauls reaction showed this.
Personally I’d have gone over to the cheating bastard and kicked the fuck out of him and took the red card😏

In the return game if we kick it out for any of their players going down injured we need shooting. I couldn't care less how injured they are, we just can't believe they aren't faking it.

I haven’t seen the ‘R’ word mentioned yet… but this needs to take a dramatic upturn very quickly or this is going to be a long, hard season.

Defensive performances like that will happen, it's the nature of the players we have. The thing that really needs fixing is the goalscoring. I know that's stating the bloody obvious but 0 goals in 4 out of 5 games, none at home where we've lost 3/3. I didn't buy into the XG it'll come argument a couple of weeks ago and still don't now.

Just an appalling performance from everybody including the manager.

I never want to see Marçal in a Wolves shirt again, his performance typified by letting a superb cross field pass by Neves under his foot under no pressure. He’s just shit at everything.

Adama Traore is fucking shit, contributes fuck all and has done for years. He should not be playing for us.

Coady should be taking Toney and the ball out before he gets anywhere near the area after Kidman’s mistake and he just stood there. He was shockingly poor all game.

Brentford go down to 10 and Bruno decides to even things up by putting on Fabio Silva, our club record signing, who has as much impact as a plate of jelly would.

Playing 2-2-6 isn’t going to win games if your right winger can’t cross a ball, look up to see who he’s crossing to or have any awareness of his position and teammates.

Trincao can’t play on the left and putting him there is hurting us a a team.

If we don’t score in the next two games Bruno will be gone. No manager survives that unless you’re in charge of Norwich.

Pretty embarrassing performance all told. Can not believe we turned down decent money for Traore, he is basically a circus act.
I genuinely can’t stand watching him. People think he’s good and I have no idea why. I can only think they like doing tricks on FIFA.

No it’s a very reasonable concern once you get caught in the dog fight it’s hard to get out of.
This group of players are in a horrific run of form stretching back to last season 7 defeats out of 8 scoring just 3 goals.
Problem is a lot of them were coasting along at the end of last season I think.
They’ve let losing become a habit which again is very hard to jump out of.
On paper and in theory we should be fine and comfortable but reality is very different.
I said on the match day thread we look a soft touch and very nieve at times.

Before anyone jumps down my throat I’m not calling for Bruno head just stating reality.
I think he’ll be given to November international break at least unless we start getting battered every week. I think by then he has to be at the bare minimum a point per game even then he might be in trouble.
People can point the finger at Fosun and say you didn’t back him enough fair enough.
Fosun can also reasonably say a side containing a nucleus of a side that’s finished in two very good positions should be doing far better.
Don’t see him being allowed to do a Colin Lee ie go on a bad run then win a few games when his job was borderline untenable then continue the cycle.

I think we are in trouble. If you can’t score you can’t win and no goals in 4 out of 5 games is not an anomaly it’s a pattern. And one that spells serious problems. I genuinely feel sorry for Lage, he’s clearly a decent coach and wants to play the game in a positive, attacking way, but he’s going to have his work cut out with this squad. Not that the players aren’t of some quality, they mostly are decent, but they aren’t capable of getting goals and when you struggle to score you need a sound, tight defence which we don’t have.

I’ve used a music analogy before so I’ll use one again: if you gave Jimmy Page a guitar missing 2 strings and another 2 out of tune, he sure as shit isn’t going to give you a very good version of Stairway to Heaven… our board have given Bruno that guitar.

Why the last 15 games ??

Why the last 15 games ??
I think whatever time line you put on it we won’t come out in great form.
I think it’s just to emphasise the poor run of form the players are in.

Bottom line guys, were in fucking trouble, 3 home defeats, no goals scored, Marcal dire, Saiss off the pace, Trincao anonymous, Raul not fully fit, Kilman, left wanting, seen it all before, no, no, were too good to go down i hear people say, well we aint.

It is the only game this season where we have been poor and out played by the opposition and we have faced better players and teams than Brentford. Scoring goals is clearly a problem and needs to be resolved and other players now need the opportunity to rectify that, particularly Podence (who looks more like his old self) and Hwang who has been threatening in his two appearances off the bench.

On Wednesday we will see some of those options from the start. RAN for Marca. Podence and Hwang for any of the front three.

Coady just isn't a centre half. He's decent at long passes and that's it. Just looking at him he's just not got the build of a Premier League centre back. He'll never ever be good enough to play as one of a two, and at this stage I think playing with a back four and an extra attacker is our only hope of ever scoring a goal. He's not good enough to play in midfield.

I'm starting to think the root of alot of our problems are down to him. Theres an argument he's such a good "presence" in the dressing room, I don't even buy that, every time he's on anything it's just relentless positivity saying what a fantastic bloke this or that player is. I can just imagine it's all nicey nicey in training and they're all giving each other cuddles. Just a culture of failure being tolerated as long as everyone is being nice. I think Bruno has even alluded to this in his comments about Wolves needing to be a more nasty team.

Sometimes people need a proper boot up the arse, Roy Keane style, I just can't imagine Coady being that person. I'd get rid of him asap.
