Wolves 0-2 Brentford: Verdict Thread

I’ll reiterate what i said yesterday, we know the issues in the squad, Bruno knows the issues and it’s a work in progress. We’ve created better chances in every game this season than we were last season and the issue is we aren’t clinical or the chances have dropped to players we don’t really want them dropping to, see Semedo last week.

Don’t think we’ll see that back 3 or front 3 again from the start unless it’s necessary. Bruno does need to get Ait-Nouri in the team now. Marcal had been fine as he’d defended reasonably well and actually put a decent cross in for the own goal last week but he’s just not good enough on the ball for the wing back role. If we so see that team again then i think questions need to be asked.

I know Nuno and the lads had credit in the bank but they went through spells much worse than this where they weren’t even creating chances and we stuck with them, it’s time to do that now while understanding things could be better and we now need to see some players come in to the team.

I've said before that Lage's been let down, I've also said I won't start drawing any real conclusion until after the Newcastle game, but the starting team yesterday had current Mexican, Spanish, Moroccan, English and 4 Portuguese Internationals, with a South Korean and relatively recent Potuguese one coming off the bench a further current Ivory Coast and Belgian one not getting on. He's not working with nothing. It's a mid table squad, with a couple of obvious holes preventing it from being a top half one

This is the point he’s not been asset stripped either kept his best players. With the squad we have it’s not a given we should lose 4/5 matches.
If it goes belly up it’s culpable responsibility in my view. The board for changing manager but then not giving him the tools that he wants to implement his style. Why bother changing?
The manager yes you didn’t get what you needed but you were still left with a very reasonable squad for this level.
The players poor decision making in a lot of games, allowing defeat to become the norm.
Being nieve in the face of opponents who don’t mind the dark arts etc

But this is by design. Semedo is the 4th most attacking player in the system. If your WBs can’t cross, shoot or play incisive passes then don’t play WBs or play someone else. I’d rank Semedo above Marcal and Traore of players I’d want it to fall to and Raul had snatched at every chance he has had. So basically Semedo is the second most likely player to score at the moment and we don’t want chances to fall to him.

RAN is the only genuine WB in the squad and he’s not playing. Needs to play or change the system.

There has been a lot of overreaction, me included. The next two league games are massive though. Can’t afford to not score in two more games against bottom 6 material.

I don’t think anyone thinks he’s working with nothing do they but we do have issues in the squad which as you said in an earlier post i think will lead to games like yesterday. We should have at least 9 points but decision making and execution have let the team down in vital moments. That has to change and we need better decision making in those moments but i do think fans are panicking far too much after yesterday.

The football is much better to watch and overall and we are definitely creating more chances but Bruno can’t make the players more clinical. We just have to create even more chances and he has to still tweak a few things for that to happen.

We were probably 2 players short in the window, but we still have good players so I don't think it's just Lage has 'been' let down. A couple of individual errors defensively and poor decision making/touch up front. I was very concerned with the 2-2-6 formation we ended up, completely unbalanced and negated our man advantage.
Confidence will obviously be an issue now, until we get a decent win......that needs to be soon

Just an appalling performance from everybody including the manager.

I never want to see Marçal in a Wolves shirt again, his performance typified by letting a superb cross field pass by Neves under his foot under no pressure. He’s just shit at everything.

Adama Traore is fucking shit, contributes fuck all and has done for years. He should not be playing for us.

Coady should be taking Toney and the ball out before he gets anywhere near the area after Kidman’s mistake and he just stood there. He was shockingly poor all game.

Brentford go down to 10 and Bruno decides to even things up by putting on Fabio Silva, our club record signing, who has as much impact as a plate of jelly would.

Playing 2-2-6 isn’t going to win games if your right winger can’t cross a ball, look up to see who he’s crossing to or have any awareness of his position and teammates.

Trincao can’t play on the left and putting him there is hurting us a a team.

If we don’t score in the next two games Bruno will be gone. No manager survives that unless you’re in charge of Norwich.

The anti-Adama agenda here is ludicrous. He's not the reason we lost the game.

By 'not contributing for years' you really mean 'didn't contribute last season'. Like he was the only one!

He certainly contributed during our 7th place finish the season before. Or does that season only count for everyone other than Adama?

People can point the finger at Fosun and say you didn’t back him enough fair enough.
Fosun can also reasonably say a side containing a nucleus of a side that’s finished in two very good positions should be doing far better.

I think it's clear some people have been biding their time and waiting for the first poor performance.

Your second paragraph is rubbish, as we don't have Jota, Doc, Patricio, Jonny, Neto, a fit Raul, a fit Boly and Moutinho is 35.

Bruno may not be the answer even if he had everything he wants, but he's been royally shafted by Fosun and the previous manager (frankly)

I keep hearing we’ve got a good squad and won’t get relegated. How many of that squad would be wanted by top half sides? Certainly not Marcal, Saiss or Coady. Semedo and Ait Nouri, in the here and now, unlikely. Neves yes but they wouldn’t play him in a system that all too often gets outnumbered. Of the forwards - that will be a zero unless a manager thinks he can realise Traore’s potential - good luck with that!

For all the good stuff in the first four games the confidence within the team is likely to be plummeting and we desperately need to get something out of a Southampton team that could easily have beaten Man City but for a bizarre VAR call.

If we keep doing the same thing and just hope goals will come it is going to be a close call whether we are in a relegation battle or just above in lower mid table.

I think we are now seeing the massive scale of Nuno’s achievements with us (and how good his relationship with Mendes actually was).

Jeff seems to have decided that the achievements were despite Nuno and LD not because of them - and it’s cost us badly to the point where we are very likely to throw away those achievements.

IMHO it’s Jeff that has to go!

You think Doc is an upgrade on Semedo? Neto wasn’t here in the first season of the PL and was more used from the bench in 19/20. Moutihno is 35? Didn’t realise players completely went to pot from 33-35. Hence the word nucleus, still have Coady, Saiss, Boly, Neves, Moutihno, Traore from the 19/20 squad. Is Sa a humongous downgrade on Patricio?

Zero of our forwards would be wanted by other clubs? Maybe not Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Utd, (we are currently not in their league)but every other team would be definitely interested in Traore, Jiminez. Leicester were in for Trincao I think?
I'm astounded at the lack of patience with Raul

Semedo is obviously a better player than Doc, but he's contributed zilch in the PL with us. Doc was a much more effective player for us. If Adama is getting shit for his lack of contribution over the last 43 games then Nelson can have a bit too.

I thought Neto was the reason everyone was fine with Jota going? Saiss is hardly the reason we finished 7th, and Boly hasn't even played so far

I think the 4 good performances have thrown us a curve ball. They "look" good but all the negatives are still there for all of us to see. The manager and players know it (via) their interviews.

The game yesterday was a massive lesson. You'd think after 4 years of PL football the squad wouldn't lose their heads when a team came and did what Brentford did yesterday. But here we are today still as naive as fuck to it.

Hopefully they are sitting down today analysing the mistakes they made. Maybe they will see why we are what we are at the moment and can fix it in some way with the players in the squad.

As others have said the next 2 games are crucial. Don't get anything from them (it's not a given) and things will really start to go sour in all departments. Fancy football gets you so far as we have seen.

Bruno needs to be pragmatic and quickly find a set up with this squad that's capable of regularly getting points.

But some people on here need to stop filling their pants because of one poor performance. It's MM standard. You'd think we were bottom with zero points and a - 10 GD

You'd think we'd never suffered a defeat against a 'shit team' under Nuno!

It's the spine that's the problem for me rather than wingers / fullbacks.

The CBs, CMs and striker have been largely the same since we got promoted. We're still picking from the same options we were 3 seasons ago.

I agree it's well ott from some posters, quite surprised really on this forum (that's not to say I'm not concerned)
Quite frankly the lack of patience being shown with Raul is getting right up my snotter......suppose I shouldn't be surprised, its football fans after all.

Everyone wants Raul to do well, something needs to change though because right now it's hurting us.

Is it game time he needs? Losing the headband? Is Bruno using him in the wrong way?
