Wolves 0-1 Arsenal: Verdict Thread

I think we have players who have performed far worse than Guedes this season. That doesn't mean I think Guedes has been, or is, very good. He has contributed more than Hwang, Bellegarde, Forbs and Sarabia, and looked a better player than any of them. 🤷‍♂️
Bellegarde's one goal earned us a point, in fairness.

They're all crap, but only one of them cost about what Man Utd paid for Wayne Rooney.

That’s on VP for me. He needed to make changes around the 65 minute mark, bring Gomes off as it was just a matter of time. Easy to say in hindsight, but how many of us here were thinking the same? He snaps in to tackles and he’s a walking yellow.
The thing is, how often does JG play like this? I've thought he needs bringing off 10 or 15 times and I think (?) This is his first sending off? It was going to happen at some point, but he's been very good at walking the line in the past, and then you look at what we had to potentially replace him with!

He got sent off at Brentford in the cup, straight red though.

Also Vitor has chosen to exclude Lemina until some arbitrary line in the future.

This
His only frustration is the bit that actually matters, those are player protecting comments probably.
It’s conceivable we could be 4-6 points from safety before we get to the Fulham game. We’ll have just 12 games to rescue the situation by then. Damage was done at the end of November early December.
It’s a miserable season if we stay up it’ll be a humiliating one next season I fear ie getting around 15-18 points and being battered on a regular basis.
Don’t want to go down I live in hope that if we survive the close flirt with relegation kick starts the owners to do something about it.

I would say they were "good" chances. Our xG was 0.58.
Cunha’s had to go in. I thought it was going in! Better than a good chance, must be scoring it.

The wider point that we were garbage in the second half stands. Poor, poor approach to the game.

He absolutely is.

Fabio was ridiculous, especially in the context of us selling Jota for £9m more in the same window, but at least you'd got the unknown there and a stellar youth record. I doubt it personally but there's a case for saying we'll get something back for him in the summer.

Guedes was fully formed when we got him, an absolute shitehawk for years everywhere else, doesn't care, doesn't try, doesn't want to be here (we knew this in advance too), had been turned down multiple times by a manager with a CV that ran for more than half a page, and has crippled us on PSR for years. Goes on loan, is awful, they don't want him. Will leave for free, he is a dreadful footballer. I fucking despise him with every fibre of my being and when Bear says "he came on too late" it makes me fucking angry.
Guedes had 11 goals and 6 assists in his final season in Spain, he was 24-25 at the time I think. These were good numbers, a career best season and he was reaching his peak years. He has been utter shite for the money we paid and attitude is something we should have scouted better, but it was hardly inconceivable based on his last season with Valencia that he could have been reaching his peak and might go on to be even better again. 27m for a 25yo Portugal international with 17 goal involvements the season before probably isn't even in the worst 5 transfer decisions we've done in the past 5 years on paper. We turned down that fee for Hwang in the summer.

Thing is I'd actually watched him play multiple times and knew he looked like a competition winner.

Amr Zaki scored 10 Premier League goals once, it was an absolute freak event. There is nothing at all about Guedes' career that suggests he was worth that money. If you take Benfica B out of the equation his league goals record per season reads:

0
3
2
5
5
2
5
11
2

3

I mean I'm no qualified statistician, but I think I can spot the outlier here.

The middle ground on a forward who cost £27m two and a half years ago and has scored 3 league goals is pretty barren ground.

He has fewer Premier League goals than Fabio Silva and the same amount as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who both get well deserved stick.

Don't fucking have a go at me mate, I'm really not in the mood.
Again all of which has nothing to do with his recent performances or how he might fit into the current team.

If you don't want someone piping back then don't say that the mere suggestion by me that his sub was made too late made you "fucking angry". I wouldn't have even bothered replying if it wasn't for that uncalled for comment. And I don't care what your mood is, if you don't want an argument don't have an unnecessary dig.

He’s so weak, and so slow. A shame Gomes R wasn’t brought on earlier instead. All that said he’d have been more use than Hwang up front. Anyone would have been.

Wonder when Larson was injured. I thought he was really poor in that first half. Lost his duels and seemed to be hiding when we had the chance to break. Was frustrating.

Tbf to DW I knew little about Guedes but I recall him warning us about what a nothing player he was years ago when we were linked during the Nuno years, then being aghast when we actually signed him.

And he's proven to be shit. He's only even in the squad now because it's the worst collection of players we've had since promotion

His recent performances have been absolutely awful!

I don't know how you can't see this, he played sort of ok against Man Utd which is a month ago now, what since?

0,4,7,5,4,2,0,6,14 - would you sign this player or would assume the 14 is an outlier? Players build up like this all the time, they don't come along and just score 20 every season. Of course some revert to type, but many kick on and put up better numbers again. There was no reason inherently why Guedes shouldn't have been one of those guys based on his overall profile.

Well Sarabia, Forbs, Hwang and Bellegarde are also shite so in a tallest dwarf competition of who is the least shite, Bear 🐻 thinks it’s Guedes.
