Wolves 0-0 Leicester: Verdict Thread

Nuno agrees that Silva should have scored:

“Fabio has to do better. He [Schmeichel] did a great save, it was a fantastic save, but he has to do better.

“He will score these kinds of situations in the future because this is his talent and this is what he’s good at. He’s young, he’s very talented, but that moment requires a better finish.

Donk did ok today - although he annoyed me by how much he would run forwards, check and then pass back to Coady - you can pass forwards Donk! Might be that he’s getting used to the position again, so I’d like to see improvement if he stays there.

also almost got caught out for the vardy header by waiting for it to come to him, rather than attacking it - was good movement by vardy though.
I think Donk did ok today too. I would certainly play the exact same team for the next game. I just wish we had an upgrade for Semedo. We all know Doc wasn't very good in defence, but he had so much more going forward than Semedo does. You can excuse Hoever and RAN for their age and experience, but not Semedo. He's supposed to be ready made for that position, but defensively he's lightweight, and going forward he has nothing apart from a bit of speed. Maybe he's keeping it all for later in the season....

Johnny literally posted this on the previous page:

William's hold up and link play was very good in the first half. Fabio's isn't at the moment.

Some of the near post runs WJ made that took away defenders was also very good, particularly for the Traore chance, which was excellently blocked by Justin (MotM IMO).

To say he contributed nothing is silly.

Which is all correct. It was a difficult game for him to get in to for large parts - we all saw how it panned out with Neto and Traore mainly getting their heads down and running with the ball rather than actually working Jose in to attacks.

Even without him “doing much”, his presence up top gave their defence something to think about.

Besides, I’m not saying Fabio shouldn’t have come on. I’d have preferred it for someone else and then we could have played with them both.
I'd actually prefer to play Silva for 60-65 minutes and then bring WJ on if we're going to sub our striker

I thought Silva had far more influence on the game than WJ did

Yeah don't see where the WJ did nothing stuff has come from. He wasn't in the game much but that's as because as you've said we do go to Traore and Neto a lot. We don't go into the striker very often at the moment but when we do i think WJ looks more than capable of being that striker.

Don't think bringing Fabio on changed a lot and he did manage to have to the best chance but Neto and Traore started to tire and we ddin't have a pacy option to bring on. Things got worse when MGW came on but that's not criticising him but he just can't do the Neto role. It's more a criticism of our whole way of going about things really. We definitely played better today and that was pleasing but i still think the 5 atb formation(the way we play it) limits our chances of creating centrally or getting bodies in the box to finish of crosses.

Fairly happy with that performance - Leicester had few chances & apart from the late Vardy opportunity didn't have my heart in my mouth.

Neto was good, but tired towards the end & though Justin marshalled Adama well in the first half, but changed after that so they brought Tielmans over to help out.

Really good to see Jonny back even if he was somewhat rusty & was never going to do the whole 90. Just felt far more secure with him there.

Thought that Jose was isolated too much & asking a lot of him to do it on his own & yes Silva should have scored, but that's experience when you get a split second to decide what to do. He was in the right place.

4 points from the last 2 games is a more than acceptable return & neither side deserved to win or lose that game

We got plenty of bodies forward, just not that many in the box. Though we did at times for both the 1st half chances, and Silva's.

Also what a lovely bit of play from Neves to craft Silva's chance. Fought to win the ball then a sly soft through pass that bypassed all their players. Best pass of the game.

Haven't studied replays but based on viewing at the time I'd say that's a generous take. Looked to me more a case of miscontrol, scrap to hang onto it and then miskick, or at best a hopeful prod into the box.

No chance. WJ just hasn't clicked with our attackers yet, but he has only been here a fortnight.

I think Silva will finish the season with more goals than Jose - controversial I know
Interesting. 15 league games to go, plus between 1 and 4 in the Cup. Sixteen games so you'd expect Jose to score a minimum of four. Given that Silva is on two already (discounting the Papa John's) do we think he'll score three more? Probably not for me

From Nuno. Very Churchillian, but good to read what he's said.

“This is what it’s all about. This is not a positive, this is an obligation. We have to fight. Never surrender. I must see it every day, not only in the games. Tomorrow we have a training session and the commitment must be the same because it’s the only way to improve.

“The most impressive thing was before the game. We realise that what’s happening to us and the circumstances that we face, the moment that we are in and the spirit that we have to try to do better.

“It was about the moment that we had, the circumstances that happened before, the outcoming and recovering players, the stabilising of the team, so we are again finding a good way and will grow.”

I wonder why Otasowie is not getting any minutes? As Dendonker is likely to stay at CH surely he gets some chance in the next week?

I thought it was our best performance for a good while tbh. We defended well, but without it needing us to play that 7-0-3 that we'd sunk into. We didn't create loads, but probably had the better of it all told. Everybody was a bit higher up the pitch which is a good start - we just need that front three to get closer together, and for both Neto and Adama (and ideally the opposite wingback too) to bust a ball to get in the box when the ball's on the other flank.

I don't think it is all about him scoring. He needs to link the play. I think Neto will score more than both , but that will be thanks to WJ and his target man abilities.

Looking at the Sky Sports highlights, and the in game chances videos we had a lot more than they did. We need to be braver in the box. One of the days we will win by more than one goal by the chances we are creating. We need that lucky break i think.

The confidence will grow, things will click, normal service will be resumed :)

I thought Dendoncker was excellent today and if we stay in a 3, he has to play at RCB. In fact, I’d say he ought to be converted full time. His ability to carry the ball forward from that deep line gives us more effective connections between the defense and central midfield, which we desperately need when the opposition decides to take away the diagonals we love to play.

Braver?

I can’t remember anybody not being brave.
